it was nice, but part of me was sad that the rivalry had been busted. The reason we couldnt break through the lakers from 2000-2002 was because our role players around duncan and robinson kept changing. First it was mario elie, sean elliott, steve kerr, etc. then it was derek anderson, he came in and played good to counter kobe but he decided to leave for portland after his breakout season, biggest mistake of his career. It wasnt till manu came and tony became more comfortable in his second year that we really started to compete on that lever with them in the playoffs again. i think if they would have stayed toguether we would have still won the chip in 05, and you know i think we would have beat the pistons in 04 if it wasnt for .4, that hurts more than the gino foul because we still had a chance to win after that, we had the final possesion and overtime. but we wated our energy coming back from 20+ points.

Steve Kerr I remember from the '03 playoffs when he killed the Mavs in game six with a bunch of 3's and ended the series and their season.

They weren't going to win a game seven in San Antonio without Dirk, but I wanted it to go seven anyways.

Somebody grab a fork. This series is done.

I'm trying to not get too ahead of myself, but it looks pretty good so far.

Don't worry...a late game Jazz run will make this interesting. Bank on it.

What a beautiful way to end the quarter. Carry that momentum into the fourth and bury these fools!

interesting factoid:

Tim Duncan is one 20/10 game, 20 points, 10 rebounds, away from setting an NBA postseason record for 20/10 games in one postseason, today against Utah marks his 12th 20/10 game, which ties Shaquille O'Neal's record, set in 2003, 13 breaks the record

GO SPURS!

Another second half "rally" by the Jazz made the game more respectable, but really neither game was as close as their final scores suggested.

We did what we had to do at home. Let's go steal one in Utah (a tough task, considering how great they are at home), come back and finish these guys off in 5.

A little dicey there in the second half there for a bit, but a good win and a firm hold on this series now.

Win one of two in Utah and this series is over.

On a side note, how nice is it to see a classy coach on the sidelines like Sloan who's not crying the entire game?

From these first two games, what makes you think the Jazz will steal one?

And yet, I agree that in Utah they'll most likely take one. I'll be shocked if this lasts over five.

Seriously.

Ditto for the PG. I got so sick of that little Canadian schmuck last series putting Duncan's penchant for whining to shame.

I tend to give the players on the floor more of a pass for being passionate and objecting when they think they've been fouled. I don't criticize Tim for doing it, and I won't criticize Nash for it either.

But I think a coach (even though he needs to defend his players) needs to act with a bit of composure and decorum, and dare I say class, and I think D'Antoni lacks much of these. It's the same reason I can't stand George Karl... although Karl doesn't throw a fit on the court like a tantrum-throwing toddler.

Both Pop and Sloan fight for their players without looking like complete arses while doing it.

By the way, as far as role players go, Brent Barry was huge in the first half and Bowen was clutch in the second.

Robert Horry needs to ride the pine until about game five against the Pistons. He's sleepwalking until it gets interesting. :D

Don't forget Oberto. He has been HUGE these first two games - on both ends of the court.

I am not so sure that Kirilenko is intended to be much of a factor. He is shooting 50%, but has only taken 16 shots. He had a great series against Golden State. His series against Houston was much the same as this one, so I don't think he is one of their top offensive impact guys. He averaged 8.3 points a game during the regular season and is averaging 11.0 against the Spurs.

Okur on the other hand is playing poorly. He is 7-28 in two games. He is supposed to be more of an offensive force than that. The Spurs defense has a way of slowing down offensive players.

Fisher is also struggling for Utah. He is 2-16 in two games and 0-5 from the 3-point line.

Okur and Fisher are really bringing down the Jazz.

I got to go the game last night. A friend got sick and gave me their ticket. I saw several seats that didn't get filled in until well into the first quarter. I had heard that the game on Sunday was not a sell out and that on Tuesday afternoon there were still tickets for last nights game. Maybe people were showing up to get the remaining tickets and it took a while to get into the arena. It was fun.

Wilbon said there were lots of empty seats on Sunday night. I think he said 1000 to 1500. Man what a letdown of a WCF.
