I know Dak is a better human being than QC, but aren't they kind of the same guy on the field?
From what I saw of Dak last year, no. In any case, we will all see the very early stages of Dak's pro career over the next month. I, for one, am very excited about him and think he has a better chance than most.

How do you think they will use dak if he does play in the preseason?

I haven't seen anyone say that Showers is another Tony Romo. What me and others are saying is that Showers can't be immediately dismissed as garbage because we have a Pro Bowl QB that come to the team through UDFA also

And I am saying that Romo had a ridiculously better college career than Showers, even factoring in competition level. Tony may not have been drafted, but was chased by the likes of Sean Payton and Mike Shannahan very hard post draft.

I'm not immediately saying Showers is garbage, but I totally believe he is a much, much longer shot than Romo to be anything, and by a large margin. And that is saying a lot.

Last year in camp he played ST because he is athletic enough to do it and if he somehow won the 3rd string QB job it would be a huge help for him to play ST during the regular season. Once they signed him to the PS, he played some DB because they didn't have enough bodies to fill out the scout team. He was always considered a QB on the PS and came to this year's camp purely as a QB.
Yeah, I get what you're saying and it probably wasn't as big of a deal as I made it out to be. Not really fair on my part to compare him as an UDFA to a highly drafted QB (who would never be on the PS anyway, etc.) If he looks good, keep giving him chances similar to Romo even though he sat a lot longer. Hey, if we don't have to spend a bounty next draft to move up or be in range via Romo injury to get a "blue chip" QB, then even better.

I hear you, it isn't fair to compare anyone to a Pro Bowl QB when they come in as a rookie UDFA. Plus its hard following a top QB no matter what. Danny White was a good QB but spent his entire career listening to people tell him he wasn't Staubach.

But Showers would have been drafted higher if he had started at A&M as planned, its funny because I thought of a comp for Showers - Tony Banks. Banks had the physical skills but never became a top QB, he was kind of a waste because he was a 2nd round pick. He was basically a good backup that ended up starting 78 games in the NFL. But if you got that guy as a UDFA and he was solid, cheap backup for several years - you came out ahead.

You know your career is going bad when the best thing the team can say about is, they think you can play in the league. They think there might be Yetis and Loch Ness monsters too.

Kinda weird to me but it bothers me a bit that Showers kinda looks like Jason Campbell to me...but maybe thats just me.

Giving me nightmares.

I guess some of the folly I fall into is wanting the new QB to be Romo's heir in the draft instead of hoping for a backup for just this upcoming season but understand you can't have it all esp w/how things shook out w/Lynch or not moving up for Goff/Wentz bf STL/PHI came calling with their bounties. I see your point that JF beat him out at A&M so he's not some scrub prospect too. Henson over Brady, even Terry Bradshaw couldn't beat out Pat Robertson from Duck Dynasty @ NW LA ST.
If Showers/Dak show they have the "it" factor similar to Romo early in his career, then by all means keep them around next season and allow them to compete w/a higher prospect in the draft the next year (I'm guessing). We fell into waiting too long w/Aikman and don't want the team to go through that drought again considering all of the talent on the OL and Dez/Zeke.

I think as long as we keep the standard for Showers & Dak as being a potential backup then he they have a chance.

A poor mans Russell Wilson.

Marino? A HOFer nonetheless.
Romo is iffy for the HOF, so that still does not say much for leading this team past the aggregate 8-8 .

Romo won't go in the HOF with his poor post season accomplishments. It just won't happen.

This and injuries. What else is there to talk about?
I don't mind you guys talking about it, but I don't think I can remember another time we were so freaked out about the second string position unless people think like I do. That Romo is 2 or 3 hits from missing more games.
