News: ST: Cowboys, Romo insist best years are ahead

It's not even that. I will lose my mind when we decide we can let one of these QBs go because Romo is a "young player".

They are just setting themselves up for having absolutely nothing at the most critical position on the field.

The GM says he has the brain of a 40 year old, so you may lose your mind.

Since the draft is a crap shoot, then I have no clue as to who's the 2nd best player vs the 10th best player. But if the 10 best player is a QB, and that QB could be around and help you go places in the future, I'll take him.

I do agree that the draft is a crap shoot, but you have to trust your rating system. If there's a negligible difference in your ratings between the second-rated player and the 10th, then sure, go with the QB. If the QB is questionable and that second-rated guy isn't, then go with the second-rated guy.

I haven't gotten far enough along in the process to know if that's the case, but QBs often get overrated in the draft. I don't know if the top two QBs deserve to be ranked in the top 10 picks or not.

Having now not played in a whopping five seasons worth of games (3 1/2 DNP bench player, 1 1/2 injuries), Romo will indeed answer the question, "What does a QB in first, wear and tear or age?"

And I don't want the Cowboys to *******ize the long term investment process of the NFL Draft for the 2016 season. I want to build a long term contender.

the dimwit owner is going to force the qb to play out this contract. that's another 4 years even though he keeps saying "another 5 years" in every interview.

so are you comfortable having the 1st rd pick QB sit for his entire rookie deal (4 years)?

QB is the most important position on your team. Roethlisberger was picked 11th pick in the draft. I'm sure Oakland wish they could take their pick back at the 2nd pick and reached for Roethlisberger who won 2 super bowls.

If Romo plays past next season I'd be suprised.

Whatever it takes to hold on to that job Tony. Make that money man and sack your fans in the long run. .500 forever.

The QB problem will be addressed way before the draft. There isn't a chance that Jones would draft a Qb in the first round. Qb's in this draft are nothing to write home about.

I'm torn on the QB issue. I know we need to plan for the future at the position, which could come as quickly as next year, but I also covet some of the impact players at the top of the draft who can absolutely make a difference next year.

I guess it's going to depend who's there. I don't want Dallas to pass on, let's say, the second-rated player on their board for the 10th just because he happens to be a QB.

It would be incredibly short sighted of the Cowboys to pass on a top QB given the rarity of such a high pick, but not if they dont like the QBs available up there. After reading some of the draft reviews on these guys I think the only reason they're rated so high is because of the position they play.

Yup. Take the best most dominant player at 4th, and this year that isn't a QB.

A) Ben Ro way better than Goff or Lynch coming out of school
B) There are as many or more horrific examles of too high for a QB and passing on legendary players at other positions. We could play that ad infinitum.

A dominant LB or DL or OL beats a marginal QB.

In the past 35 years there has been 4 quarterbacks over the age 35 win the Superbowl. WHY THE HECK are we waiting on Romo. I've always been a huge Romo fan. But wake up guys, he's done. You can watch him play, you can look at his body, you can watch him walk and run,or even just look at the way he carries himself, and you'd be lying if you say he's a shell of his old self. If we continue to try to build around Romo we are setting ourselves up for another decade of not winning anything that matters. I'd love Tony to win one. But it's just not realistic. It's time to move on...

Common, Romo is our only chance this next 2-3 years, don't forget that he was 3rd in the MVP last year, he was 3-1 this year, let's ride him out, the freaking Commanders won this division, we can come back and win it next year. The NFC East sucks.
And let me be clear, I hate Garrett and think he is an awful HC but with Romo at QB we always have a chance.
Saying that, we should draft a QB, sit him 2-3 years and learning from one of the best QB's in the NFL.

He was nearly the MVP a year ago. Stop it.

I want to believe that, and come June 2016 I might again. But as of right now, I honestly don't see Tony playing more than 10 games ever again.

"Nearly", and then he hit 35. If tony took care of his body like a lot of pro athletes do, I'd feel better about him. But like I said, I just don't see him ever having more than ten games in a season again. How many his age have won it?

Carson Palmer is 36, had two severe injuries that were as bad as it gets for a QB (knee, throwing elbow) and was written off more than once. He may be playing in the SB this season.

Romo is 16-5 in his last 21 games.

Again, stop it.
