I don't care what Romo prefers. JJ needs to do what's best for the Cowboys.
JJ is a sucker even after guys like Ratliff screwed him over

He let Ware go for nothing, he paid DMC all year when he didn't have to and a cut a rookie with 3 years left to bring him back for 3 touches a game, he keeps RMcClain around, he is giving RGregory a million chances...he is soft

Be nice to them after they retire

There is too much salary that the Cowboys are on the books for, to let the man walk. Sorry, Tony...that's the business side of things as they stand at present.

Tony has had June 1st 2017 cut written all over him since his injury problems in 2015. This is the most convenient time from a cap perspective for Dallas to cut him as it spreads the cap hit over a manageable 2 years.

It's an option, but an unnecessary one.

The salary cap is a non-issue with Tony Romo's contract. The team was prepared all along to carry Romo with a $24.7M cap hit in 2017 and adjust other contracts to create cap room.

Releasing/trading Romo will open $4.635M in cap space.

Only ten players on the roster have '17 cap numbers higher than that number and several of them will get adjusted before next season.

The overall savings is the same either way, it just comes down to how much and when the dead money gets accounted.

Dallas can easily create over $30M in cap space before touching Romo's contract.

Sorry Romo, you are under contract and are being paid HUGE money. You will be at the convenience of this team. Even if it means watching from the sidelines.

It's just not on the QB but there's no doubt Tony hasn't played great in most of our playoff games. Besides some want to give Tony all the credit for us being competitive but don't want to give him any blame in the losses. It goes both ways.

Add KCs defense to Romo's teams and Romo to KCs offense and tell me neither improve as a whole.

So Romo has given up competing for the starting job next season. Sheez. Really Romo, finally you have competition at qb and you won't fight for the job.

Perfect scenario is that The Boys win the Super Bowl with Dak and next year Tony goes to the Broncos and wins a Super Bowl with them.

why would he fight for a job where the new guy has crapped the bed the last 3 games and is above being replaced?

Am I the only person that thinks that we are a couple of defensive players (draft, free-agents, and maybe a Jaylon Smith knee nerve regeneration) from a year or two of super bowl windows? Why would you let Romo go for nothing until being absolutely sure Prescott is the future AND even then, going to be healthy during a run (assuming we don't get a crack at super bowl this year....).....

Lots of QB's have regressed in year 2 in past years, not that I think Prescott has that type of personality where it would be from attitude, etc... - but confidence, injuries, etc - can all take a step back - and here we have a pro-bowler at end of career that could step in.....

I am a Romo fan, and want best for him, but if we can get something for him, or if he still fills a need as back-up - I keep him until I get something or I see Prescott dominate and continue to grow in season 2 also.

Would love to add a defensive player or two....and see what next season brings before I ditch Romo....

Cowboys win with his release or trade via freed up cap space. I'm sure they'd much prefer a trade but not sure how many teams are giving high picks for a year or two rental at QB who they will need to pay pretty big money to.
I tend to believe we should grant Tony a release unless a trade is quickly executed come the off-season. He's taken enough bullets to go beyond being treated as just another asset.

It'd be a class move and allow the franchise to move on with Dak in charge and no looking over his shoulder.

There's no way I'd enter the new league year with Romo still on my cap.

Ummm. I love Tony. I really do. But uh... he's an asset. And I'd prefer to get something back for him rather than lose him for nothing.

Unless a straight release helps give us better salary cap relief. I don't know about that part of it. If it helps in that area and it's good for both parties, then okay cool.

Agreed 100%. However, you'll see fans here say crazy things like Cowboys should trade Romo to whomever he wants. Why?
As for the article, how is this even a surprise? Of course, Romo wants to be released. He holds all the cards as a free agent....

Sorry but you're wrong. If Dak doesn't bounce back tonight and get a W, you could very well see Romo back in for the stretch run. They aren't going to let a struggling rookie torpedo the season with Romo on the bench even if it is that rookie that got them here. If Romo somehow get the job back and performs well, there's a good chance Jones will insist he continues on as the starter next year. Dumping Romo for next season only save a little cap room. Dumping him the following year is the big payoff. Jones may decide to give Romo one more full season to make a run at it knowing he has Dak if Romo gets hurt.

What's that?

What's that?

Dak did what he needed to do and I'm glad he did. What I posted is not what I wanted or hoped to see. It was just what I felt might happen if Dak didn't rebound based on the way Jerry was talking. Read the first five words of the second sentence.
