It is almost like we are dangeling (sp?) the bait for other teams to give us the #1......wow!

That's my opinion also...get a 3rd, 1st round pick, trade 2 to move up for DMAC, use another for CB / WR depending FA signings.

Funny we heard all the same Buzz about turner last year and no one made an over

The 1st round tender is fine and despite all the talking heads no one is going to give up a #1 pick for Barber and a ton of cash. Rosendork is talking it up like teams will be banging down there door :lmao: yea right Rosendork you are just trying to pimp your client so you can get a bigger cut.

Yea yea I know it is his job but to many people over blowing this issue

1st the rb position is not as valued as it use to be (so we are over valuing the player because people like his running style)

2nd He has not been a feature back and has barley broken 200 carries in a season can he withstand 300+ carries with the type of shots he takes and his running style (I do not think he can)

3rd No one is going to give us a 1st and Barber big bucks (I be very very surprised if they do)

What's it going to be then, eh?

I'm quite surprised that they did the 1st round only but that makes me wonder if Jerry and Barbers agent are worlds apart on a contract agreement and he's thinking if he puts just the 1st round tender on him that someone will bite and give up their first for him.

I'm not saying I am partically happy with any scenerio that loses us Barber...but if he's asking for a truck load of money it might be the only thing that Jerry could do.

Let's watch and see the Star-Telegram try to pry their foot from their mouth

That's why I posted earlier about how assinine it is to second guess the organization or predict what will be tendered, etc..

There are lots of good backs in this draft. The best all around guy and the one that most resembles an Emmitt Smith type may not even go in the first imo. Ray Rice

You don't dangle Barber to get Ray Rice. Barber is just as good as rice, in fact I say better since I've actually seen what Barber can do in the NFL.

You don't get 3 1st round picks so you can draft Ray Rice in the second round, that'd be stupid.

If Barber gets snatched, it's so that Jerry can get McFadden as far as I'm concerned. Which is down right stupid.

Well if you want to go by conventional comparisons then you are right.

But what does he do?
  • All he does is get chunks of yards
  • All he does is fight for every last inch of the field
  • All he does is inject explosiveness in our offense
  • All he does is score TD's
I say he is very valuable and irreplaceable.

Get this man a beer.

Has there been a retraction on this one yet? I wish I could be as wrong as the members of the media (or a weatherman, stupid weathermen), must be a smooth job.

Too many knee-jerks...this is a good move.

Why tender him at the first and third?

If anyone in the top 10-12 were willing to give up their #1 pick for Barber, this possibly entices them. No one near the top of the draft was going to give up their first and third when their 3rd is almost a late 2nd.

1. If someone between 1-12 gave us their #1 for Barber, then we might be able to use that #1 and another one to get DMac if he's still there after the first 3-4 picks, very likely.

2. The draft pick doesn't really matter for anyone else because Dallas always has the right of first refusal...it's more about us being willing to match the contract and take the pick than someone else just thinking he's worth their #1 pick.

Relax...whether you love MBIII and see him as truly a top franchise RB in the NFL or if you see him as a guy you love but would trade for the chance to get a big play, blue chip RB, the bottom line is that the decision is in the hands of the Dallas Cowboys, not the other teams.

Regardless of which tender he got, the Cowboys get the final decision on Barber and draft picks.

For $500,000 we are going to give away a 3rd? That is ludicre and drives up MB3's bargaining power.

Exactly........horrible move
Barber was a fifth round pick, right?
So getting a possible 1st round pick in exchange, to me would be called an investment.

And it won't happen. Any team willing to part with their #1 for a back, can just do it in the draft.

I love Barber because he runs like a man possessed.

But, if someone wants to give us their first rounder AND it's higher than our pick. I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Three first round picks. Imagine what we can do with those.

If we pick up Turner it would make the deal even sweeter. With a deep RB pool this year we could find some real talent in the second round.

Or, if we can make the move, trade a couple of picks in the draft and get more players.

He was a 4th round pick.

A team would be willing to do it because Barber is young and they have actually seen what he can do against other NFL players. He is as close to a sure thing as there is.

Personally, I would be much more worried if they injected suppositories into player contract offers....

YES, or it means we have to pull someone CHEAP off the scrap heap.

Btw .. does anyone actually SEE our cap room, how would we have the room to sign any of these guys after taking the Tag for Hamlin in account, the tender to canty, the signing of our picks (with 2 first rounders, let alone 3 or a Single HIGH first...) We are cutting this way too close. Especially when we will have to lose between 1-3 million dollars if we are letting go Akin OR Carp.:bang2::bang2::bang2:

There's no reason to even RISK losing barber over 500k.. so why?

It's been mentioned several times that Romo can redo his contract to help with cap room to sign somebody if needed.

Or didn't you read that..?

Also, there are still a couple of players at least that are going to be traded or released either right before or right after the draft. I don't need to keep mentioning who they might be.

And if we trade for players, then we can immediately redo their contracts to better fit under our cap.

I think you are failing to realize that we are no longer the hunters, but the hunted now. We have other teams that will want our players and will be able to pursue them or in the case of MBIII or Canti, make offers that we'd have to consider taking.

Additionally, we are going to be in for several years now where we are going to be tight against the cap from here out because we are going to need to pay these 13 Pro Bowl players we have if we intend to keep being competitive.

I mean think about what Jones is doing.

Canti was a 4th rd . pick. What was Barber, a 3rd or 4th..? That's all we have invested in them..?

And we've moved their value up to a 1st. Rd. tender offer from any team wanting them..?

Man, that's brilliant.

Please, somebody take them if they are worth it to you. It's not that we want to get rid of them.

It's that we really have to pay them if we keep them and at those costs, some teams might go ahead and put in an offer and then we know what to pay them IF we keep them.

Or we cash in and take the draft choices.

Grow the team, get younger and deeper.

I think Jones is playing this exactly as BP would be doing it. I think if you closed your eyes, you can see BP's cunning playing out here in Jones right now.

We have possibilities and we have opportunities to make some significant improvements if either of these guys is signed away and Dallas can capitalize on it.

Go Jerry..!!

Whoorah..!!
