Star-Telegram - Surprise!! Barber gets the lower 1st rd tender

I think they might want to offer him something in the 14-20m range.

Ask yourself this, if you're looking at Barber's work as a whole, do you give him franchise running back money? Or do you offer him solid RB money. I'd offer him solid RB money.

It's been mentioned before that this is a deep RB draft.

Agreed

I agree. Barber is exciting to watch, and he produced those bone crunching runs all year. But, he is also a high injury risk with his running style. Plus, I think he is best playing in a tandem role, and the added cost of the other member of the tandem precludes Barber from getting Emmitt Smith type money. I'd like to see the other member of the tandem to emulate Brian Westbrook. Now that would be a running game to fear.

Story dead wrong

He received the highest tender and we get a 1st and 3rd if he leaves.

That happens JJ needs to be taken out behind shed. He signs Crayton, Roy, Rat, Flo and gives Romo $60M

Yet can't get a deal done on arguably the best young RB in the NFL.

look guys. i think the cowboy organization is thinking what im thinking.

barber is not a feature back. i love him to death but he simply cannot carry the ball 20+ times a game and not get injured or worn down at the end. plus he doesnt have the speed to be a game breaker. jerry doesnt want to break the back for a part time back as good as barber is in that role. barber probably and deservedly so, thinks he should be paid like a premier back. i for one wouldnt do it.

I personally feel Cowboys fans are overvaluing Marion Barber.

I love him as a player as much as the next fan.... but Marion hasn't proven he can be "The Guy" in an offense yet.

I just don't view him as a franchise back.

I really don't believe there are any teams that would give up a 1st round pick for him... especially with this class being so deep at RB.

Running back Marion Barber
Contrary to earlier reports, the Cowboys will give Barber a first-round tender at $2.017 million, which would net them a first-round pick if he goes to another team, rather than the high tender of $2.56 million, which would have returned a first- and third-round pick.
Is this really true? Do we know this for certain. One day he is tendered at the first level, then a couple of days later, it was the second level, then reported at the top level and now it is the second level. You absolutely cannot trust what you read from any of the writers. Has this truly been verified? Who can you believe any more?

No, they were wrong. They tried to break this story before it was actually announced and looked like fools for it.
