From what I have seen, many actors who were angry for a long time for being typecast and losing out on parts because of it learned to appreciate what it truly gave them much later in life....and learned to appreciate the fans.

I'm not crying for them, but it must kind of suck as an actor to get known for one thing and not be able to find decent work after because of that one thing.

In his case, he was just a horrible actor. If you need more evidence than his reaction when Vader told him he was his father, just try watching the movie Corvette Summer.

I may have accidentally edited your post so apologies if I did. Yes, this guy, in particular, didn't do much after star wars so you can imagine. Curious what he's actually gained from the franchise. I saw him mouth, "**** me before he got out of the car.

I did, but I honestly don't remember much of the whole movie. Now that you mention it, and after Googling a picture of it, I do vaguely remember thinking it wasn't good.

Yeah when I go back and try to watch the original trilogy I cringe at the acting and dialogue. They were never "great" movies.
I think most of us just romanticize our youth and the enjoyment of them from our youth.

I'm not a huge Star Wars fan. I'll watch the movies, but I don't get thrilled at the very mention of a new one coming out. That said, when I was 12, I saw the first one, when it came out in the theater. It was an amazing spectacle to behold in 1977. There'd never been anything like it. In the back of my mind, I think that's always a consideration when I watch any of them, and just like a band you loved when they first came out, you have to allow that first experience to positively affect everything after..........unless it's absolute garbage, then the disappointment is even greater. (I'm looking at you, Aerosmith.)

They were simply scifi fairy tales meant for nothing more than entertainment. And it was during an era when we watched Happy Days and Three's Company, so the acting/dialogue are in line w/ what was accepted at the time.

it's a bare bones soap opera in space (Which is what Lucas even labelled it) - Star Wars was essentially Lucas cash grab (also what he has said) after his passion project THX 1138 failed. Star Wars built itself off the back of nerd culture - frankly something I've come to despise since it is now everywhere.

I get WHY it was phenomenon, starting from geeks and nerds word of mouth (Critics disliked it initially) and the visuals brought in the larger audience. For it's time, it was a great looking movie. However, that's just about where my positives for the films end - the acting is poor outside of Ford's and the trilogy always seemed to box itself into a family drama rather than expanding within the mainline films.

If you want to watch a film by Lucas that had some passion behind it rather than a desperate (successful) attempt at money grabbing, check out THX.
