It's a teaser, not a trailer. They never make any sense.

Yeah, I get that, it just felt like it was fan made quality teaser. I get that I'm supposed to wet my pants at the sight of the ** at the end, but I was just left thinking, "all the hype for this?" The mysterious narrative was pretty weak too. It was clearly intended to intrigue the viewer (who is that? what does he mean? I have to know!), but I wasn't intrigued at all.

Definitely puts the tease in teaser. I am in the theatre day one but I'll also say the trailer for Phantom Menace was pretty epic. The movie...not so much.

  • I like that the cast isn't filled with a bunch of movie stars that will take me out of the movie -- Samuel L Jackson was a terrible decision.
  • I like that the teaser didn't trot out the familiar faces to sell the movie (aside from the ships and John Williams); Not even R2.
  • I like JJ Abrams' style of storytelling and directing. Even his meh movies/shows are more interesting than most of what gets made.
  • I like that opening shot of Boyega in a stormtrooper suit. That one shot was more intriguing than the entire prequel trilogy.

So apparently the voice doing narration in this trailer is Andy Serkis. Odd. Hmm.

Yes!!! you get so much from it.... Tatooine, and a distraught major character at a crossroads....

And as others have noted, that unstable saber with the cross being carried by an sith apprentice (my assumption).

As far as the voice over, do you even need more than "There has been an awakening..... The Darkside, and The Light"..... That's the yin and yang of star wars...... nothing more, nothing less.

20 million views in less than 24hours... let the money making begin.

Unstable lightsaber or just new art direction?.

And as you and @Leadbelly have said, it's very intriguing. If this is what they do with a Stormtrooper, seems like the characters won't be as one dimensional as they have been in the past. The faceless minions aspect is gone.

I'd probably gouge my eyes out in 30 seconds if I swung around a weapon shaped like that.

The movie will close with Mr. Sith getting 3-5 years for carrying an illegally altered light saber.

Loved Star Wars as a kid, couldn't give a carp about these. Found his Star Trek boring.

Good lord. I likes his Fringe show.

His Star Trek was a remake, not even a reimagining of wrath of khan. Horrible!!

TESB is my fav ... ANH IS 2nd..... And ROTJ Least fav

Prequels. All bad. Clones wars was ok.... Could have been better. Last prequel was good story, just told all wrong... Acted all wrong.

Not excited for this.

Because Lucas is not involved, and I liked JJ's new Star Trek's, I'll give this one chance. If this movie is bad I will not see the next 2. Prequels still sit heavy on my heart.. I can't erase the fact that they happened, they are cannon, and they pretty much ruined my love of Star Wars.

actually that is one of the theories...if you look closely the lightsaber has a firey effect implying that it might be unstable and it makes sense considering the only two people that would have the knowledge to make a red light saber are dead (Vader and Palpatine), so it is probably like an exhaust port to release all the heat generated from a crudely made lightsaber. it just happens to give it the aesthetic of look liking a ******* sword.

You know way to much about this sorta thing, and for that I give you much props

Plinket Reviews are one of my favorite things on the internet no joke.
His reviews of the prequels are 100% dead on in every way. They are perfect. I enjoy those reviews so much that I almost think it's worth it that the prequels were so horrible, otherwise the plinket reviews would likely not exist.

I loved the teaser and it only makes me more excited for the new trilogy. I think it was a great day when Lucas sold the franchise as he had run it into the ground. I love the use of practical effects which make things look much more real, rather than the green screen overload Lucas gave us in the prequels.

And I noticed a conscious effort to feature the new characters rather than the old. I think this film will work very hard to 'pass the baton' from the originals to the next generation. For the sequels to succeed, that needs to work.

I've watched all the prequel reviews about ten times. Just great to see him deconstruct a movie in such a manner. Good times.

It's not a "mysterious narrative", it's a teaser. The only reason there's a voiceover is so it's not just a random selection of clips set to music.

The point is to prime you for an actual trailer, not to set the plot of the movie out.

actually the narrative of the teaser is pretty straight forward, and with the exception of tone, states what every star wars is about "The Darkside, & The Light"...... Not to mention, reminding the viewer that there is an "awakening" of the series.....

On the light sabre deal, I guess if you were defending a hit with the sabre parallel with the ground couldn't you gouge the opponent in the face with the side 'mini sabre'? (ok, my total nerd moment of the day)

I do find the level of dissection of this and the prequels to be interesting. The original films are full of flaws whether its effects, plot holes or really crappy dialogue. One of them has Ewoks. However since they were the films of our youth, they are beyond reproach. They were extremely successful movies that were influential. Don't get me wrong I love them but I do realize I was 7 to about 13 when they came out. I am sure I would feel different about them had they came out when I was a 44 year old male.

Anyway I am very much looking forward to this film. Not going to think too much about it. If its like JJ's previous work, should be entertaining and that's what making a movie typically is about. Entertainment.
