Lol, Damn thing is 2 years old. Despite his awful play, he's still one of my favs.

He got soft when he discovered women and poodles. That chick from Destiny's Child really screwed his brain. He hasn't been the same since.

Just like Stu Schweigert of Oakland...

They were okay Big 10 Db's.

He has track speed and some size but seems like he lacks instincts. I cant wait until T-New comes back..

He might be a decent nickel or dime back with some PT but him as a starter scares me....

I never said we will score 45 every week, what I said was why mess with what is working hell MB3 said the same thing!!

I still have yet to see a link to this but I give MB credit for being a classy guy. :D It has to be obvious to him just how much he lifts the offense when he enters the game.

LOL... Ok man. I'm looking forward to broaching this subject throughout the course of the marathon. We'll be sure to bring it back up as the season rolls along. You're very emotional about those 45 point we put up in one week against the Giants. I'm not as emotional but I am proud of our offense. Ask yourself this. On that 4th & 1 would you have been gripping if JJ was in there at tailback? Thanks to MB3 the momentum swung solely in our direction with that rumble for the TD on 4th & 1. I know you don't honestly believe we're going to bust a 45 spot every week. Our defensive issues are well documented so we don't need to hash that out. The status quo works great until you go up against a team that has plenty of film on you. We're going to have to "outscore" opponents for a little while. New coordinator. New game film. It'll get tighter as the season goes on and you best believe MB will give us a better chance to loosen things up.

so if our O falters the rest of the season, will you be back to tell us you told us so?

Same as I returned to shout hallelujah when Romo was finally thrust into a starting role last year? I don't mind getting pounded on but I will pound back. Yessir.

I wish no ill will on our offense... I just want this juggernaut to roll right into the Super Bowl. Period.

I try to read other threads but I actually do have a bit of a life and unfortunately am reduced to spending whatever evening time I can get jousting with my wonderful fellow fans. So I read as many as I can. Is that ok?

I've commented in 7 threads tonight... Just in case you were counting. ;)

As another responder noted, it is freaky how much this is reminiscent of the old Emmitt/ Hambrick debates. (Why do Dallas fans have near "QB controversies" with our HBs?) Proven 1000 yard rusher but disappointing starter backed by young physical freak who flashes greatness, but may not have the focus of a feature back.

I like both backs and am on the side of the two pro coaching staffs who have worked with both players that the proper use of each is with JJ starting and getting 65% of the plays/carries and MB getting about 35%.

I feel a little for JJ as his stamina is actually one of his better attributes and the two headed approach hampers his production a bit, IMO. He runs better when he is getting 30 carries a game. (Or maybe that is a bad attribute in that he needs more carries to get rolling. Dunno.) He is a fine blocker and an effective runner with very good straightline speed. When he runs with good body lean he has reasonable power. On the negative side he thinks he is more elusive than he is and as such runs a little more upright than he should. Addtionally his balance is pretty poor for a 1000 yard rusher.

MB reminds me a lot of Hambrick in that to me he looks like he is near his maximum production level. I mean the guy loses his helmet and goes into hulkamania hysterics after every first down. He runs off adrenaline and those guys tend not to make feature runners. Addtionally to me, he looks like his body shouldn't carry that much muscle. I look at guys who look like that and I can't remember many having long careers as feature backs, so the idea of entrusting him with the job does not appeal to me. Additionally, if you look at when Barber shines, it is in short yardage situations. He seems to be a guy who really thrives on adrenaline rushes. he runs harder when he has a chip on his sholder or he is challenged by the situation. If you watch him closely on runs that are not short yardage plays, he doesn't run with the same focus or aggressiveness. He does way more backfelid bancing than a player of his skillset should in those situations. That alone makes me not want to give him the keys to the running game. Keep him hungry and effective, I say. In college he split the load and clearly there seems to be something to that that coaching staff after coaching staff use him that way. Rather than having him get more carries, I would like to see him get more receptions. I think he has real top level potential as a receiving back. I could see him maxxing out with 800 receiving yards a year and 600 rushing.

Finally, I hope we spend cleveland's #1 on the best CB in the next draft. That would be a ton more useful than the best HB.

While I like your comparison, I laugh at this being thought of as a HOFer (Emmitt) vs journeyman (Hambrick) comparison. First and foremost Marion Barber is no Journeyman. Secondly, Julius Jones will be lucky to see the HOF on television annually. That's about as close as he'll get at this rate. I tend to believe MB3's carries will eventually top those of JJ by season's end. I think Wade agrees.

Dallas was down 6-3 and facing fourth-and-1 from the New York 18 when Phillips made his first big decision as coach of the Cowboys -- opting to go for a first down instead of a short, tying field goal.

The ball went to Barber and all he did was shake a defender at the line, bounce outside, shove away a second defender, then dive headfirst toward the end zone from around the 5. A third defender hit Barber, flipping him over the goal line for the go-ahead score.

Cameras caught Phillips' smiling widely and throwing a soft uppercut.
Gotcha!

I don't know if I agree with the coaches, but I do see some of the possible thought process behind starting Jones. MBIII seems to remind me of the "sixth man" in the NBA (ala Manu Ginobli), where he comes in, energizes the squad and picks up the tempo when the other team may operating just a touch slower than when they started the game. Put that violent running style against a defense that has been blowing a little wind and you have a tendancy to see defenders getting knocked over when MBIII plows through them. I honestly don't know if he could keep up that much energy getting the dominant amount of the carries, but I would be interested in seeing if he could.

As far as the whole "game-plan" theory, I doubt defenses are game-planning for Julius only. Barber did lead the league in touchdowns last year, so they aren't ignoring him.

Yeah, putting up only 45 points shows we lack the ability to put up points consistently.

It was like Nate Newton was saying earlier today when he basically said you are blind or do not have football sense if you can not tell that Julius sets up for Barber. Thats the reason why Barber gets big plays.
