It was like Nate Newton was saying earlier today when he basically said you are blind or do not have football sense if you can not tell that Julius sets up for Barber. Thats the reason why Barber gets big plays.

Yep... and... Next year McFadden will set up Barber

Barber REALLY impressed me. He may not have game-breaking speed, but that really doesn't matter if he can shed would be blockers and give our offense a little bit of toughness. We need to beat teams at the line of scrimmage on the ground, and Barber, and Not JJ, is the one to do that. JJ still has a place in this offense as a change of pace back, but If Barber can keep playing at this high of a level throughout the season, JJ shouldn't be back.

I am glad we are using Barber is being used differently than in the cookie-cutter way he was being used last season, just up the gut.

John Madden said it best when he said " Barber looks alot faster then JJ and the off. seems to move the ball better with MB3 in the game"

OK - so, you were looking for what? 52 points?

No offense, Bleu, but of all the things to complain about, you're barking up the wrong tree.

The problem's on the other side of the ball.

So if one complains about Julius, they're not allowed to complain about the defense as well?

While I like your comparison, I laugh at this being thought of as a HOFer (Emmitt) vs journeyman (Hambrick) comparison. First and foremost Marion Barber is no Journeyman. Secondly, Julius Jones will be lucky to see the HOF on television annually. That's about as close as he'll get at this rate. I tend to believe MB3's carries will eventually top those of JJ by season's end. I think Wade agrees.

Well Emmitt was a shadow of the back he was in the first half of his career by that point. He had totally changed his running style, going from a guy who hit the holes hard and fast and finished all of his runs to being a guy who floated in the backfeild seeting up his blockers and then exploding through the resultant hole. In the first half of his career he was almost never stopped of negative yards. In Post Jimmy/post Barry part of his career it happened all the time.

(I will admit I was not a fan of Emmitt in the second half of his career, but I will give him this --- I have never seen a feature back totally change his running style mid career and still be a consistent 1000 yard back. The closest thing I had see to this was Hersel Walker. Emmitt's vision for holes was truly elite.)

And frankly, the Hambrick comments are total revisionist history. There were a number of reports in the DMN at the time that quoted unnamed scouts and GMs that Hambrick was considered the better/more talented back. You can go to the library and read the sports sections to confirm it. To say he just didn't have feature back talent seems like total revisionist history. Did he have a 2 cents head and lack the professionalism and staying power to be a feature back? absolutely.

I suspect a lot of the people who spend their time ripping Hambrick are people who bought the hype at the time.

A guy I work with just said Barber reminds him of Earl Campbell. Sheesh. Come on! This is troy hambrick (stupid overhyping) all over again.

I continue to contend that Julius Jones has absolutely NO redeeming qualities as a RB for this team...None....It's almost as the guy possesses a fear of the line of scrimmage...Pile Magnet strikes again.

And anyone still trying to make an argument that Barber is an adequate blocker should ask Zach Thomas what he thinks of that.

How about setting up our first points of the game?

Pile magnet, back in the game...He may be hard to find on the field but if you look closely at the line of scrimmage, you're sure to find Julius

How do you scheme 2 yard pickups on offense?...Run two or three consecutive plays with Julius Jones

Face it people....the RB's compliment each other well....NEITHER one is an NFL starter...just like T-Ham wasn't.

Barber is a better back but I would still like to see the Cowboys use both.
