Starting to worry about O-line

I never break up my best unit. I wouldn't spend that on Leary if I have multiple holes on the line, but if it's the best unit in the NFL, I keep it together.

Erod:

In a alternative reality version of the NFL with no salary cap I would agree with you unequivocally.

It takes a 'team' to win the Super Bowl. 3 All-Pros on the OL is already a fantastic bounty of riches.... they could not spend that money on Leary.

Not re-signing Leary was stupid.

You don't mess with the key unit on your football team.

Dak had better be ready to take some hits.

Sorry but it just wasn't.

Trying to hold on to something great that won't last forever is always the mistake.

Good organizations know when to cut bait.

It will probably sting this year, but in the long term it's better NOT to pay a 28 yr old guard with a deginerative knee issue when you need to improve elsewhere.

Growing pains vs a dominant defense. It's not the end of the world, we have depth at o-line and we will be fine...

Yeah the oline's decline is definitely worrisome. Hopefully it's an issue that gets cleaned up, and in a hurry.

Have no idea but McClay seems to find players that can do well in Dallas

I think one thing that has happened is we are doing a much better job of getting players that fit our scheme than just taking the "name" player.

I think you are really reaching. The problem was Chaz Green at guard. He just isn't very good there. I hope that experiment is over. Cooper is simply a much better OG than Green is, and the fact that Green is trying to learn a new position while missing practice time makes it that much harder. Collins didn't have issues in pass protection, he had a technique problem that cost him a couple of cheap penalties. I think the OL is going to be fine with Smith, Cooper, Frederick, Martin and Collins. Depth is solid with Green, Looney, Bell and Cleary.

I think someone mentioned last night how bad Tyron Smith initially looked as our LT. Many here thought that he was better suited as a RT. It takes time. Collins has shown some ability to be very good at tackle.

How am I reaching? They haven't looked good this preseason (by their standards at least). I didn't say our oline is doomed or sucks now.

I've always thought the "dress rehearsal game" is the least indicative of regular season play style on Offense.

While it's closest in terms of 1st string personnel vs. opponents 1's- the drives are disjointed and rarely feature best playmakers.

To my mind, reflect on the first time QB1 debuts in preseason over "dress rehearsal" for a more accurate snapshot of an O's potential.

95 in 7 plays.

Last night. we drive for 3 pts basically plunging Zeke and throwing to Witten only, missing one sure TD to Dez in the process...

7 again on the next series vs Oakland's first team featuring McFadden and the run game and again, basically Jason as a sole target? ...Ten points playing with 1/20th of playbook?

We're fine.

La'El needs to be better and we must clean up the flags but we're ready overall.

What hasn't looked good? They are getting yards on the ground. We had close to 100 yds on 17 carries by the main three backs. They are giving Dak time. He was sacked once and it was on a play he had 4 seconds before the pressure got to him. Almost all the issues yesterday were due to Chaz Green playing guard. It just isn't his comfort zone. Cooper will be the starter there and Looney will back up. Collins wasn't giving up pressure yesterday....had some problems with technique in his punch but that is correctable. Dak and Rush were 23 of 27 for 228 yds and 3 TDs. The Raiders are talked about as an AFC contender for the Super Bowl.

Our OL last year had Free, who was worse than any of the projected starters this year. So yeah, I think you are reaching.

I'm not worried, I'm encouraged. Let's discuss Collins first. In his first true test as our starting RT, he played against probably the best pass rusher in the game in Khalil Mack. I saw no QB pressures, no sacks, and only 2 tackles for Mack. I don't know how many snaps they played vs each other, but that is fantastic. Those 3 penalties he got (2 hands to the face and I forgot the other one) are fixable with good coaching. It's a technique tweak he needs that will manifest itself with experience. If he can handle Mack, he surely can handle JPP, Vernon, and other pass rushers we'll face this year.

LG: Green cannot be depended upon. He's injury prone. Cooper is a natural Guard who has had a good training camp and preseason. He needs to start. Sandwiched between two all pros, he'll help fortify our OL in no time.

We can work on building our chemistry as the season moves along. Make no mistake, this will be the strength of our team again. I'm not too concerned about this position group at all.

That was the Colts. This was a real team last night.

Collins' short arms are going to be a problem against better pass rushers. They need to get him back to left guard.

His arms aren't that short.

He just handled one of if the very best edge players in the NFL. One of his penalties was BS and he was outstanding outside of that.

Is it even worth keeping Green around at this point? He will never be healthy, just like Matt Johnson :(
