Yeah - this feels like hiring a more pedigreed Chan Gailey...I was expecting a Rams or Niners type of hire, bringing in fresh new mind...
So your position is the MM hire is an inspired move then? just want to know with whom I am debating here...Scrub? Good lord. Under your absurd analogy, we shouldn't hire Belichick. It's nonsense logic.
Yeah...I was finally hoping that desperation that comes from old age would lead to a new direction. Boy, was I sadly mistaken.A lot of us were hoping for that, but why was anyone expecting it? Jerry is still running the show. A retread is right down his alley.
They did.
The whole football world was watching and Cowboy nation was gifted a lump of coal for Christmas after putting up with Wade Phillips and a decade of Jason Garrett.
A high profile high upside coach was needed to get the fans and players rejuvenated and excited again.
They went with dull, boring, and a guy that had the same questions as our last coach because of how poor he is on game day.
So your position is the MM hire is an inspired move then? just want to know with whom I am debating here...
Some of us aren't fascinated by Sean Payton, either. He's had a HOF QB his entire coaching career and won 1 ring a decade ago. He also got suspended for a year.
His work yesterday left a lot to be desired.
You and I agree on 99.9% of stuff on here but this is the one time we don't. I'm not sure what a flashy hire does here. Lincoln Riley...he gets blown out by colleges big boys. Urban Meyer...never coached in NFL and has quit because of health. I mean right now we have talent on both sides of the ball. McCarthy has the same winning, experience, etc as Payton, Reid, etc. Guys we'd fall all over to get. If he can do with Dak what he did for Favre and Rodgers and bring in a top D guy, I think it's a good hire.
Knee jerk reactions here.Yeah - this feels like hiring a more pedigreed Chan Gailey...I was expecting a Rams or Niners type of hire, bringing in fresh new mind and brand of leadership, and we get Uncle Mikey...completely underwhelmed.
Inspired? I think it was a good, solid hire for a team that is on the cusp. I may have preferred Riley/Meyer, but I’m not one to bash a hire just because it wasn’t my #1 choice.
A lot of guys have had HOF QBs and gotten one ring...I'll post again
I'll tell you what an unflashy hire does.. Chan, Dave, Wade, and Jason says high.
Dude stop. Meyer isnt coming here as an OC. Neither is Riley. And who says we didnt try? McCarthy is a huge upgrade.Reckless and impulsive hire IMO. We should've at least tried to get Meyer, Riley, or Roman here. At least Riley or Meyer as an OC to prevent a bad NFL "learning curve". McCarthy is an upgrade. But by how much? And is he better than the coaches I listed? Was he really that good to the point where we didn't need to interview anyone else or give another candidate a chance?
Brother...let me ask you another question...what has been the pattern of success in recent years in taking franchises to the next level (note - I cite the Rams and Niners as primary examples)? Do you think that's the path we followed in this decision making? And to you earlier post, I was NOT calling MM a scrub...I referred to the DECISION as a SCRUB MOVE, because that's what it is from the FO. We should have been going after the whale but we took home the striped bass. Yeah, we can make a nice meal out of it, but that's what SCRUB franchises do (like the Browns) to satisfy a fan base steeped in mediocrity. We're the mother lovin' Dallas Cowboys and a retread, "safe" hire is the best we can do??! PUUUUUHHHHHHLLLLLLLLEEEEEZZZZZEEE. Oh, and for the record, MM wasn't my 10th choice.Inspired? I think it was a good, solid hire for a team that is on the cusp. I may have preferred Riley/Meyer, but I’m not one to bash a hire just because it wasn’t my #1 choice.
What if I told you between 2009 - 2016 his seasons ended with....
Wild Card game
Super Bowl
Division game
Division game
Wild Card game
Championship game
Division game
Championship game
Talent alone might sneak you into a Wild Card.
Luck might shine on you once in that time.
But to do it 8 years in a row takes more than talent and luck.
Nah...not knee jerk at all RedX...realistic. The model for success has been cast in recent years (see Niners and Rams)...hire the fresh, innovative, offensive minds to lead the team to the next level. This is a Browns-type decision and unworthy or this franchise or its fanbase. Your second sentence speaks volumes, though. Classic Jerry signing of someone who can't outshine him like Jimmy and Bill did.Knee jerk reactions here.
I see a coach in McCarthy whom the ownership will support and communicate well with.
Somethings must have come up at these meetings that agreed with what ownership wants
Good for all concerned.
I see us retaking the East in 2020 and a playoff run now.
The draft is now top priority as it should be this time of year.
Do we keep Richard to oversee the defense and promote him, give him a raise and give him a free hand in the defense less Rod?
I would hope so.
