Well the rumors rolling around on social media (Twitter, Facebook, ect…) is that the Cowboys seriously considered firing Garrett after the loss to the Rams and it was Steven that was pushing for it.
He apparently is not a fan of the clapping monkey and thinks with this roster the results should be better. After talking it out, the Joneses decided to let Garrett coach out his contract since 2019 is the last year of his 5-yr contract he signed after the 2014 playoff season. Hence, that is what led to Steven making his "get over the hump" speech when asked why Garrett didnt get a new extension.
So that is the lowdown on what is going on behind the scenes at the Star. Now is it accurate? Who knows, its social media so you have to take it with a grain of salt, but there are a couple of facts to support this theory. First and foremost is no extension offered to Garrett. Second is the fact that Steven became very defensive about criticism that the team was just happy to win a Wildcard game and nothing more. That is when Steven went on his rant about Jerry wanting to win more than anything and that he would trade his HOF jacket for another ring. Steven also said around this time that Garrett had his back to wall and needed to get the team over the hump to earn a new extension.
So, like I said, who knows if any of this is legit or not, but at least there are some facts to back up the theory.
