Both Alfred Morris and Patrick Robinson visited the Dallas Cowboys on Monday and left without signing a new contract.

The free-agent running back and cornerback arrived in Dallas on Sunday and met with team coordinators that night. The following day they went to Valley Ranch and also spoke with the Cowboys decision-makers over the phone as Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones and Jason Garrett were all in Florida for the NFL Annual Meetings. The Cowboys COO, Stephen Jones, gave a quick update on the pair after both concluded their visits Monday afternoon.

It was reported earlier in the day that the Cowboys were closer to signing Robinson than Morris during the visits. Robinson's visit was reportedly "going well" in the middle of the afternoon.

Without being too cynical, you have to believe that Robinson and Morris' agents have to feel better than warranted about their leverage, given the FA PR pressure that seems to be building.

The only pressure that is building is coming from the fans that panic.
The team is not going to sign someone just because the fans want it.
And once they do, there will only be complaints about the off season and FA signing or lack of or both.

Or if they don't, the Super Fans will be quick to say "they're not that good" or "they wanted too much money" or "the Cowboys don't need them".

I disagree, there seemed to be some acknowledgement of public discontent implicit in the "not just about injuries" statement from Stephen. Just pointing out that it might be a factor in these (admittedly minor) negotiations.

You really over estimate PR pressure.

Nobody we're looking to add at this point is 'that good.' We're filling holes again. Not sure if saying that makes me a superfan or not, but it's true.

I'm not worried in the slightest about RB, because there will be someone there in rounds 3-5 who can help us, for sure and who will be excellent value. If Morris wants to come here on a prove-it deal, that's great. I'm intrigued to see if his issue was the ZBS or not, but I don't suspect it was. He's basically a Turbin with more miles on him as far as I'm concerned (I liked Turbin).

As for the CB, we really need to add one before the draft to get Carr to cut salary because it's dumb to take his contract on at this level. But there are options out there for that. CB is a position where I'd overpay a bit to save the money on Carr's deal.

I think they know fans are butthurt, but I don't think it matters enough to get them to blow their budget under any circumstances. If we were going to be tempted, it'd have been back when there were better players available.

Overestimate? Perhaps, but Stephen was somewhat defensive in his statements the other day, so they are clearly feeling some pressure.

If by your definition the Cowboys win whether they get their players or not? Yeah, you qualify. Some will take hit-and-run potshots and say "the Cowboys can't win" with some people, while with they themselves the Cowboys can't lose".

I'm not big on Morris as his numbers have dropped every year and he looks used up already. And while I hope they draft someone, I don't subscribe to "there will be someone there".

I'm personally tired of the repeated swing and miss at cornerback, Robinson is about their 4th option at this point and I think he's a better, cheaper option than Carr and I would like to see them finally get a deal done.

Signing either one of these afterthoughts won't dent the budget, I'm just pointing out that their agents probably have more leverage, however minimum, than they might have had before the other deals didn't get done.

The "butthurt panicking fans" demagoguery is pretty funny at this point. I can't believe that people still resort to that. It's so, 2008 or 9 "Believe" ish.

OK, I admit I know little about them except I do remember Morris. So, are these guys going to make a real contribution this year or just kicking the tires?
