The writing is on the walls fellas, they are committing to rebuilding this team, they have given up on the Romo era. Our first-round pick will more than likely be a QB. How do i know this? No significant effort to secure a real backup at QB, no significant effort to sign any impact players on defense, no players signed what, over what 27ish, no long-term commitments to any one they have signed. With the exception of the DE from the Raiders they are only offering 1 yr contracts. They finally made up their mind to build for the future. And i for one am on board.

That's ok. I kind of like being called a superfan.

For the record, though, we've already 'lost' by not getting any of the primary targets at the primary positions of need in FA. I just prefer that to going out of budget.

You may be right but many of these FAs never pan out. And while many draftees take time getting to know the NFL game they contribute even if some only on STs. So I haven't cried once over not getting any FAs.....yet. No Von Millers around this time.

There is always cuts before camp and during it and even right before the season starts.

We do need to find a pass rush and some pass defense. I will be disappointed if we don't get a DB or two, maybe a LB and an edge rusher. Not holding my breath though.

I don't think it has to be one extreme or the other. While I wouldn't want to see our GM going crazy with contracts like Jerry Reese has in an effort to save his job, I think that there were certainly players to be had at reasonable contracts. The fact that they have repeatedly failed to sign any of those players outside of Thornton (a nice deal I think), is disappointing.

Nobody we're looking to add at this point is 'that good.' We're filling holes again. Not sure if saying that makes me a superfan or not, but it's true.

I'm not worried in the slightest about RB, because there will be someone there in rounds 3-5 who can help us, for sure and who will be excellent value. If Morris wants to come here on a prove-it deal, that's great. I'm intrigued to see if his issue was the ZBS or not, but I don't suspect it was. He's basically a Turbin with more miles on him as far as I'm concerned (I liked Turbin).

As for the CB, we really need to add one before the draft to get Carr to cut salary because it's dumb to take his contract on at this level. But there are options out there for that. CB is a position where I'd overpay a bit to save the money on Carr's deal.

.We should have never let Sterling Moore go.

I'm personally tired of the repeated swing and miss at cornerback, Robinson is about their 4th option at this point and I think he's a better, cheaper option than Carr and I would like to see them finally get a deal done.[/quote]

Agree and his rating last year was better than anyone else who suited up at CB last year.

Butthurt is butthurt. I'm not resorting to anything, but it is what it is. Every offseason, the first week or 10 days of free agency, we get to live through it. We don't also have to pretend it doesn't happen now, do we? People wanted big moves in FA and don't like the fact that the team did what it said it was going to do, instead.

Not everyone wanted big moves in free agency. Some just wanted moves to fill some obvious holes and bring in solid depth at reasonable salaries. I didnt hear anyone asking for them to sign Vernon to a big salary. Or Janoris Jenkings. What most fans probably wanted was for them to sign some of the Long, Carroll type of players to small short term deals.

I don't recall the team saying it was going to parade 13 different free agents into valley ranch just to have every one of them walk away without a deal.

The biggest FA splash most wanted was Weddle...and the FO certainly tried to get that done...but ultimately failed..like they did with Forte, and Murray.

Unless you can show me where the team said it was going to go after big name free agents and fail to sign any of them. There is no evidence that this was the plan all along.

Which is a good thing, not bashing Jerry but at some point he learned the best way to build a team is through the draft and to trying to buy one. I've been hard on Jerry in the past but he's grown in this area of being a GM. We've had better drafts and more frugal FA's contracts

Im sure Jerry knew it's better to build through the draft. It's not like teams purposely have their draft picks fail to become stars. Its not either one or the other. You obviously want all your draft picks to produce big time...and if you sign a few free agents it doesn't mean you just throw darts at a board to determine who to draft. The reality is you will always lose players to free agency and you will have to replace them in free agency to a degree. If you just let people walk away and don't replace them you will either run out of players or your team will be made up of way too many 5th Round draft picks with many holes.

500 middle of the road team. not good enough to beat the good teams but good enough to most times beat the bad teams.

It feels like I harped on this for a few years but left it alone for the past two years. We are the textbook definition of mediocre. No one wants to hear reality though. Just because some of us see it, we are no less optimistic than we have ever been. However, it is a painful reality.

The only pressure that is building is coming from the fans that panic.
The team is not going to sign someone just because the fans want it.
And once they do, there will only be complaints about the off season and FA signing or lack of or both.

We tried listening to the fans once when we waived Ken Hamlin in favor of Alan Ball at FS.

Worked out swimmingly, lol.

Just because they weren't signed doesn't mean it was a failure. Why does everyone think it's a failure when we don't sign every guy the media says we have interest in?

When the player visits, or a visit is planned, that's not the media saying we have interest, it's the team saying it.

And when they don't get the player they very obviously had interest in signing, it's disappointing.

We don't sign them... what the hell is the front office doing? We have no plan.

We sign them... we're desperate. The players aren't any good anymore.

This argument is stale. Patrick Robinson specifically would be a strong signing at a position of need. Chris Long would have been the same.

Disappointing is a completely different adjective/feeling from "a failure."
