OK, I admit I know little about them except I do remember Morris. So, are these guys going to make a real contribution this year or just kicking the tires?

You remember Morris?

Hey, welcome to the NFL. Take your jacket off and stay awhile. You'll like it here.

Fans complain they are not signed, but if they were signed other would complain....lol...

I read it here that both would be of no use. They would only take up a roster spot that could be filled with an all pro. Or maybe a future hall of fame draftee.

I read it here, so it has to be true, right?

both of these players would be a decent signing but I don't think either one makes a huge difference in the cowboys season in 2016. this is not a superbowl competitive team yet and I don't think these players put them their.

Overestimate? Perhaps, but Stephen was somewhat defensive in his statements the other day, so they are clearly feeling some pressure.

i know they had absolutely no plan coming into this offseason and are relying on the message boards to clue them into what course they should take.

That is the NE formula and that of every successful program. What and see what the IT guy from State Farm thinks we should do.

Championship!

Morris feels like a classic Patriots signing: you know the totally under the radar signing that ends in Morris having a 1,400 yard, 12td season!

If only we could be so lucky?!

Right.

A team that signed a player who was a PR disaster is concerned about PR.

Clearly, over and over, we've shown people buy tickets and everything else regardless. Signing a backup CB or declining RB is not the sort of move to change PR perceptions.

There are all sorts of different types of public pressure, sometimes it gets decent coaches hired so owners can get their stadiums financed. See how that works?

A lot here think taking a qb at #4, instead of a defensive player, is holding back this team from being a so called SB contender.

I think that you are onto something here.

Without being too cynical, you have to believe that Robinson and Morris' agents have to feel better than warranted about their leverage, given the FA PR pressure that seems to be building.

Whatever man. The Cowboys front office needs to clock in and quit standing out back chain smoking.

Signing either one of these afterthoughts won't dent the budget, I'm just pointing out that their agents probably have more leverage, however minimum, than they might have had before the other deals didn't get done.

The "butthurt panicking fans" demagoguery is pretty funny at this point. I can't believe that people still resort to that. It's so, 2008 or 9 "Believe" ish.

Butthurt is butthurt. I'm not resorting to anything, but it is what it is. Every offseason, the first week or 10 days of free agency, we get to live through it. We don't also have to pretend it doesn't happen now, do we? People wanted big moves in FA and don't like the fact that the team did what it said it was going to do, instead.

If by your definition the Cowboys win whether they get their players or not? Yeah, you qualify. Some will take hit-and-run potshots and say "the Cowboys can't win" with some people, while with they themselves the Cowboys can't lose".

I'm not big on Morris as his numbers have dropped every year and he looks used up already. And while I hope they draft someone, I don't subscribe to "there will be someone there".

I'm personally tired of the repeated swing and miss at cornerback, Robinson is about their 4th option at this point and I think he's a better, cheaper option than Carr and I would like to see them finally get a deal done.

That's ok. I kind of like being called a superfan.

For the record, though, we've already 'lost' by not getting any of the primary targets at the primary positions of need in FA. I just prefer that to going out of budget.

We swung so far to the extremes from jerrys deals.

Which is a good thing, not bashing Jerry but at some point he learned the best way to build a team is through the draft and to trying to buy one. I've been hard on Jerry in the past but he's grown in this area of being a GM. We've had better drafts and more frugal FA's contracts

The truth is that there are fans at both ends of the spectrum. There are fans on this site that complain, regardless of what the team does and we all know some of their names. Likewise, there are some cheerleaders on this site that think everything the organization does is pure gold and they have an excuse ready to explain away anything that would hint as negative towards the team, coaches, or players............again, we all know their names.

The truth of the matter is that this team is not as bad as the pessimist would have you believe and at the same time, this team is not nearly as good as the optimist would have you believe. This team in the middle, its not a bad team and its not really a good team............proof is in the pudding as they say.

Over the past 5 years, the cumulative regular season record of this team is 40-40...........doesn't get more down the middle than that fellas.

The only pressure that is building is coming from the fans that panic.
The team is not going to sign someone just because the fans want it.
And once they do, there will only be complaints about the off season and FA signing or lack of or both.

Hard to have faith in the front office that thought Weeden was a good idea

I'd argue that the optimists are much more frequently critical of aspects of the team than the pessimists are positive about aspects of the team, but maybe that isn't fair.

That 40-40 since 2011 is actually slightly above average (14 teams ahead of us). Adjusting somewhat for our schedule during that time, it puts us first in the NFCE for that period, but is also the lowest win percentage of any of the divisions in the league by a fair margin.

If you want to try to adjust for the quality of the teams themselves, we win 66% of the game we're favored to win (13 teams are better at that than we are) and win 28.6% of the games we're favored to lose (24 teams in the league win as underdogs at a higher rate). So we typically perform at the rate we're expected to perform.

All this during a period with a strapped cap an aging roster inherited in 2010.

So, overall, not good enough, but not as bad as it's generally made out to be. We've had a franchise QB during that time, and a franchise-worst defense for some of it. We lost a season to injury last year, but then all teams suffer from injuries. We've gotten the roster younger, and the cap healthier. And, overall, we've been outperforming the league average by a thin margin while doing it. Basically: nto great, but not terrible.
