Stephen Jones "guesses" Romo would be open to backup role

Why are people having such a hard time understanding this?
With a very talented team we have a rookie QB who has some holes in his game that will be filled in with experience. Meanwhile we have Romo who is capable of playing at the highest level in the league. Big deal if Dallas wants to keep the option open and keep the pressure on Dak to continue to perform. Even if they tell the world Dak is the man, it changes nothing if he suddenly turn in a rookie. He will always know that you need to be on your A game. Just as Tony would if he came back in.
 
My hope for him is he back's up Dak the rest of the season, stays healthy, and then somehow we can trade him to another decent team in the off season.

Competition is always good for a team until you have a horse in the race. The people acting like they care about the optics of romo as backup really just care about how it affects "their guy". If romo is healthy, then he and dak should be the active qbs. Regardless of who is under center...go

What does it mean by he guesses....they are not fooling anyone...believe me, there is no way that they all have not sat down and discussed this and all the scenarios...
They are trying to be there usual bs selves....and I don't blame them one bit, no way should they let on as to what they plan to do.

However, I do believe they will let it all play out. Because they can. But they have talked about this, no way they have not talked about it.
This is a great situation to be in.

other than that, my head hurts from all of this stuff "day to day" actually. :lmao2:

You appear to be talking about the Romo of 2014. Even last year before the collarbone and this preseason, he did not appear to be right. He is starting to remind me of how Manning fell off.
 
Never thought I'd see tony be a backup on this team but it could be likely at this point. Chemistry and one game away from longest winning streak in team history. Hard to argue if he said I'm ok being back up

Looked perfectly fine to me prior to his collarbone last year. Looked perfectly fine before breaking his back this year.
 
I've decided that it's best for him to be the backup. There would be an enormous amount of expectation and pressure if he were to step into the starter role without Dak having a bad couple of games or possibly a real bad start to a playoff game.

I'm a Romo guy and this sucks. However, Winning cures all in sports.
 
We need to blow out Pittsburgh in the first 3 quarters, then Romo can come in for mop up duty and shake the rust off.

I'm talking about the Romo with a balanced offense and a great running attack.
Unless you believe Dak would have played just as good last year with the 6 running back committee we had.
Zeke gets more defensive attention than Demarco Murray ever did.
Romo in 2015 felt he needed to throw us to victory on every drive...and he really did need to. Our RB's scared no one and were not a factor.

Do you think Dak would have came in last year against Carolina and won that game? It's not so easy playing. An aggressive defense with no real running threat. Zeke has more impact on this offense than either Romo or Dak.

Dude, I'm about as big of a Romo fan as there is, but he was complete garbage to mediocre last season in the four games he played.

As soon as Dak loses a game Romo will be back on the field.

Hard to say. I do know based on the evidence so far he would've been better. Tony had more ints in that quarter plus?? than Dak has had in 8.

I've defended him and if he starts I'll be right behind whoever the coaches pick. I do not think you can replace Dak with him at this point.

It's is possible he peaked in 2014 and he's on a downward spiral. His body is for sure.
 
I can't imagine how delicate this situation is. Tony has been my favorite player for 10 years, but the thought of them taking Dak out gives me anxiety. I trust this team right now which is something I haven't been able to say for years. Even in 2014 I was always nervous we were one game away from reverting to old ways. At the same time, it will definitely be tough to see Romo on the sidelines as a back up, knowing how much it must kill him inside. Of course he is the ultimate professional, but you can't help but feel for a guy that has put his heart and soul into the game and has not entirely fulfilled his dream. It's going to be an interesting couple weeks.

It shouldn't be delicate at all. Either make this Dak's team and inform Tony they're moving forward with the future of the franchise, or give it back to Tony. Either way, just make a final decision and stick with it. Both QB's are big boys. I'm sure they can handle either decision.

What I can't imagine is good for the team is this franchise QB-limbo we're currently in.
