Stephen Jones - "These things take time."

Also Stephen Jones - "We don't need to start negotiations until closer to camp."
Jason Garrett after taking over a team that won a playoff game nine months earlier - “It’s a process.”

Ok.

Jason Garrett three years later - “It’s a process.”

You’re not going to be right about this one, bro.

If they wanted Dak he’d be signed right now.

He’s gone.
Unfortunately Mike Fisher just released a “breaking news” story that Jerry, Dak and France are in contact negotiations and the negotiations are “going well”.

I think this is going to happen. It sucks but it’s most likely going happen. I’ve begun to wrap my mind around the idea that we’ll resign him and Dak will get everything he wants in the contract, 60 APY, short deal, NTC and no franchise tag. I’m also wrapping my mind around the idea that I won’t be caring as much and probably not watch, or greatly reduce my watching, if this happens.

For reference, I live in Chicago and everyone is jumping for joy about this report and I’m hearing from the bears fans, “if the Bears make the playoffs and play Dallas it’s an easy win with Dak playing”. That sucks because I know deep down they’re right.

It won't happen.

Dak has proven too many times to be a loser and Lance is Jerry's new toy.

IF (it won't) but IF it happens then the transition to MountaineerTexan will be official.

I hope it doesn’t happen. The only hope I have is Dak demands a 60 APY for 3 years and his greed causes the Jones to be incapable of making it work with the cap. But I think the ball is on Dak’s court and only he can screw it up by asking for too much.

Has there ever been an NFL that thought it possible to be paid “too much”?

I have no idea what you’re asking me here. I don’t believe the NFL has ever thought it was possible to be paid too much.

If you’re asking about Dak in particular as far as asking to be paid too much then you have to look at the contract years. Currently, as I understand it, the Cowboys have put 45 million on the salary cap “credit card”. This salary cap credit will come due some day. Earlier this month a report came out that Dak wanted smaller contract as far as years go and he’s asking for 60. This was reported by Shefter. So Dak’s current deal is 4 years. So if Dak wants a shorter deal than 4 years, then that means he’s looking to sign a contract for 2-3 years at 60 APY. I’m assuming he’ll receive a signing bonus which will add to the salary cap credit card. So if Dak is demanding a 3 year 180 million dollar contract with the already 45 million on the credit card I think that may make it very difficult to sign him. If he signs for 7 years and 420 million it may be more feasible.

I miss that Adam guy that was the capologist. He was good at breaking this stuff down. But I feel it would be very difficult to sign Dak to a 3 year 180 deal with 50-75 million SB. We’re going to need time to spread the deal out and if he’s a FA in 3 years with 45 million currently on the books, we’re looking at a year where his cap charge would be enormous.

LOL, LOL ........you are scared to death coz Stephen made it very clear they want to get Dak extension done.
But he is also saying it will be Dak's call coz they have established a limit to how much they can afford to pay him.
The Cowboys can't afford Dak if he plays for free.
He's worth more helping another team lose.

Jerry isn’t smart, but he is a hard worker. Stephen isn’t smart.

I still shudder at the expression, "it's a process".

In my mind, I always pictured cold honey ever so slowly being poured into a cup of hot tea. It takes so long that, even after it's done, your not sure it's worth it.

Bottom line….they want these players to sign below market and they aren’t going to, especially Prescott.

If they could tag him things might be different, but there’s no reason to sign for a discount when you’re seven months away from hitting the open market.
This^^^ what I don't get is Stephen saying these things take time.

You're allowing your emotions to type for you.

Take a deep breath and try it again.
I’m speaking with my emotions yet you’re the one angry and depressed every day on the site??? I don’t let this stuff affect my moods, but we all know that you’re wrong quite often and then you’re Hella pissy afterwards.

You’re trying to say something’s going to 100% happen when most likely it’s going to be totally opposite. I’m just trying to help you out.

I dont get the love for Lance, the dude is a SF cast off traded for a day 3 pick and a bag of Doritos and has never taken a single snap for the franchise.

Hard for me to believe he is going to be anything more than a glorified backup and seeing him in preseason against dudes that will be working at Home Depot week 1 aint gonna change that.
