I would advocate trading down (netting an additinal day 2 pick) and then using the first 5 picks on defense.I don't see anyway in hell we don't use our 1st 4 picks on D.

They always do this. How's it worked so far?
Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.Over the past several weeks since free agency began, we have watched as the Cowboys lost personnel from their 2016 13-3 campaign. As many of the media members and the fans have spent a lot of time overreacting to these departures, others have tried to urge calm, that a plan is in place. [Ed. Note: this pargraph has been edited to note there are a variety of opinions on the Cowboys moves on the BTB staff.]
Now, Stephen Jones has pretty much laid out his plan. Not a single player who departed is irreplaceable going forward for the Dallas Cowboys. There is certainly a plan in place and Jones addressed that when speaking to the media at the owner’s meetings out in Arizona:
“People say our biggest issue and the thing that keeps us from winning a championship is the lack of (defense),” Jones said. “We didn’t have the players to be a great defense.”
He’s certainly on the money right there. Their last two best seasons, 2014 and 2016, were both marred by the same problem - lack of defense. As well as the Cowboys’ defense played last year at times, it hasn’t been good enough for the playoffs and that was the death sentence for the 2016 Dallas Cowboys. On 3rd and 20, the Cowboys couldn’t keep Aaron Rodgers from getting the first down. It was time to move on because Dallas has pieces to build around.
They have the All-Pro linebacker Sean Lee, they have the grizzled feisty veteran in Orlando Scandrick. They have a potential standout free safety in Byron Jones. they have young guys like Maliek Collins, David Irving, and Anthony Brown. Now, they need to add more defensive talent. Stephen Jones has a plan for that too:

Were it not for the cap, thats exactly what the Cowboys would do.Yes Paea is a better value than TMcClain but the goal should be getting the BEST players that we can get at every position not the best bargains
Have you ever heard of the salary cap?I think SJones falls short because he is too obsessed with value

He is way too big picture for a guy that has never won anything and he runs a team with unlimited resources but acts like a small market GM

I would rather take the best players possible and not try to fill position quotas.I would advocate trading down (netting an additinal day 2 pick) and then using the first 5 picks on defense.
yes ignore all the other problems, and blame the defense.“People say our biggest issue and the thing that keeps us from winning a championship is the lack of (defense),” Jones said. “We didn’t have the players to be a great defense.”

I have not posted in a while...but I had to respond with a resounding YES!!!!!!!!!!!I think SJones falls short because he is too obsessed with value

The popularity of this organization has caused many to lose sight of the fact that.....WE DON'T WIN!!! Yes, we won 13 games. But did not win ONE....ONE....playoff game. Here is how comfortable this organization has made fans with focusing on the big picture: There were many on this board who said before the playoffs started that this was a successful season even if we do not win a playoff game! I was so glad Michael Irvin shot that down. He TRULY felt this team was Super Bowl contender. And so did many other former Cowboy CHAMPIONS. Why? Because they WON! They expected to WIN! They did not consider making the postseason a great accomplishment! And don't tell me were weren't ready....because 2 of the teams we beat during the regular season on the road...Pitt and Green Bay....were playing in the conference title game this year. Because those organizations expect to win.
So when I have debates with my friends from other teams....that are older than 30....they cut me ZERO slack. They cut through all the fluff....the beautiful stadium....the shiny new practice facility....the gourmet stadium food...the craft beer at the stadium.....the world renowned cheerleaders....yada yada yada. Only 3 teams in the NFC have failed to play in a conference title game over the past 20+ years...and WE ARE ONE OF THEM. The scoreboard is what really matters! The results are what really matter! All that other stuff just makes the Jones family rich! And good for them! But it brings me zero satisfaction.
I am not saying that I am wary of the future. But all I'm saying is that if we don't get this young group to the next level in short order. Another promising era of Cowboys football will morph into what has been the status quo for over 2 decades. Because the Romo, Ware, Witten, Spencer, TO, Barber, Roy W #31, etc....looked on the verge....and they won ONE...ONE playoff game. Heck...for all the "what are we going to do with Romo"...."should he be in the Ring of Honor"...."is he the best QB in Cowboys history"... Romo won 2 playoff games folks. 2!!!!!!! But when you look at how much money we make...and how many headlines we create...and how often we are on TV...you would think we are the Pats. But the RESULTS have not been lost on this fan.
How is drafting defense filling position quotas?I would rather take the best players possible and not try to fill position quotas.

Let’s be honest here, we’re not a well-run organization (as far as the football goes)
Jerry is the GM because he owns the team, Stephen is in his position because he’s Jerrys son.
That’s not necessarily the best qualification for the jobs they hold.
You are overlooking potential offensive players to fill a defensive quota. How is drafting defense filling position quotas?
He says as if they're weren't talking about the draft. He says this as if we're in some glorious run of Cowboys football.
Umm...not too well, actually. A 20 year old wasn't alive the last time the Cowboys won anything.
Haha tough crowd for Stephen. Wow the Cowboys are going to focus on defense the other teams would have never suspected it, argh!
