Stephen Jones basically denied the idea that Jerry Jones is "stepping back". Jerry Jones was "sick" but he had a business commitment.

Stephen Jones told @BenRogers and @SkinWade that the Cowboys would love to have Jared Allen and Anthony Spencer if the price is right.
When it comes to signing players, Cowboys VP Stephen Jones said they're taking a harder look than ever at players' age and injury history.
Stephen Jones said he does not feel WR is a pressing need in the draft for the Cowboys.
What are the Cowboys looking for in the first round? Stephen Jones immediately mentioned offensive and defensive linemen on @1053thefan

Wonder if Risen Star will actually give props about that............

I have nothing against Will McClay, but c'mon, the hype on him is getting a little ridiculous. We've signed two spares and a former Marinelli player.

I agree. He got the credit for the Laurent Robinson signing, even though there is a natural connection with Norv Turner and Garrett. I think he had a hand in the Selvie pick up. Somehow, some way, there is some connection to UCF players.

The Mincey and McClain selections were early. He should be judged directly on how they work out.

How do we judge them? They are obviously JAGs at best. The McClain signing seems like taking a cheap flier on someone, sort of like we did with Selvie.

I mean, to be honest, if we get even average play from them, I'm going to be pleasantly surprised.I really.sunny have a room of hope for either, especially McClain

And those judgements should be appropriately weighted by the cost if the investment.

So they were cheap they should be evaluated differently?

Either they fit what we do and can contribute or they cannot. That is what he should be evaluated on.

The cost of investment thing comes into play simply because we probably overpaid due to when they were signed. These were not pluck off the scrap heap in May/June signings that were desperate for jobs.

I think if either are quality role players and depth, I feel McClay did his job. But the rub is if we think they are really more and bypass their positions in the draft. If either are tabbed as starters, then of course, the grading criteria gets harsher.
