Stephen Jones on the Fan Now - 03/21/14

So what that means, if true, they are comfortable with either Dwayne Harris or Cole Beasley starting if someone turns an ankle.

Sorry, that is a little concerning to me. But that's just me.

Stephen basically said Miles was a non factor last year, and mentioned they like the TE's along with the WR's they already have.

Wouldn't you be uncomfortable if any starter was out?

I'm sorry too, but if I'm rank ordering needs, starters come before backups every single time.
I do agree that we'll add either a vet WR or draft one later, but we need STARTERS at
DE
DT
OLB
OG
FS

Are all dire needs.
Then if we have injuries, backups at all of those spots, plus backup at RB, ILB OT..etc all are big needs
And yes, another WR would nice for better depth.

You know I would normally never disagree with anyone who has over 2300 likes... but I'm sure Dallas did their due diligence on those two guys.

I'm not sure that I understand why you don't like that Dallas clearly thought they'd be a good fit in their defense and signed them to reasonable contracts.

I do agree however, that if they suck, it should reflect poorly on the decision to sign them. I don't know why it wouldn't.

I agree completely, and 2 things come to mind.

1. At least Jerry and the Cowboys know without a doubt they need DL help this year. Compared to last year, were the misguided thought process was the DL was the strength of the team (according to Mr Jones).

2. These DL signing might not be the big name guys most fans clamor for but it sure beats bringing in guys off the streets to play on the DL. I will take Mincey and McLain over two guys off the streets anyday.

I hope the WR talk is just a smokescreen. I am hoping for a trade down and picking up Beckham in the 1st. Just take BPA regardless of position and that includes QB.

You better believe Jason Garrett will draft him a Wr somewhere in this draft. They really do need another wr that can play outside of the numbers. Don't just assume Dez or Terence will stay healthy all season Stephen Jones.

The reason why a reliable/capable WR is an elevated "depth" concern is bc of this team's pass happy structure...talent be damned (lookin @ JG)

Harris is a capable "Y". Watch the '12 season finale vs Washington after Dez and Miles went down. He played very well.

It's what the fan base is left with. Pretend the head of the scouting department is some genius with hidden power within the organization.

But the McClay love pales in comparison to Marinellimania.

Whatchya gonna do, NFL, when Rod's nicknamed defensive linemen rush wild on you?!

Brother.

Reminds me of the euphoria around here a couple years ago when Woichik got rehired and how he was going to turn water in wine. LOL!

I wouldn't want him starting for me over a stretch of games.

Me either really, but to to say he "can't" maybe a bit of a reach also. I agree we should look for experienced help... Laurent Robinson if his concussion issues are behind him?

So they were cheap they should be evaluated differently?

Either they fit what we do and can contribute or they cannot. That is what he should be evaluated on.

The cost of investment thing comes into play simply because we probably overpaid due to when they were signed. These were not pluck off the scrap heap in May/June signings that were desperate for jobs.

McLain is getting a minimum salary plus 300k in SB. Mincey gets about 150k over the minimum plus a piddly 500k SB. These are small money deals. So you are complaining that we got two guys who project as rotational players for 800k guaranteed? Yeah, you are right. Maybe if we waited it would have only been 650k in guarantees.

If either guy plays up to Nick Hayden's level last year, then we've made good deals.

Stephen Jones interview? I'll pass on all the chuckling....

to me, harris is not a starter, he is a really important role player...his ST play is terrific and he is good on occasion in 3 WR sets...

I hope Stephen jones is throwing up a smoke screen because we do need a WR and this is one of the deepest WR class in years,i sometimes get the idiot vibe from Stephen.

They probably will pick up a WR at some point just because a WR is likely to be the best available player on their board.

I love to hear they may target interior lineman early in the draft.

I agree. He got the credit for the Laurent Robinson signing, even though there is a natural connection with Norv Turner and Garrett. I think he had a hand in the Selvie pick up. Somehow, some way, there is some connection to UCF players.

More homework required...it was well documented that Norv called JG when they were about to release him and gave him a heads up on LR
