and someday people will say Garrett was a failure as a HC in his first try. Hopefully that will be soon! Dilly, Dilly!

:lmao:
we should do a poll whether garrett, linehan and marinelli will get any jobs after the cowboys at similar (at least OC or DC) levels.

i am not getting into another 3-4 argument for a while
Awesome. Either one works. It's the details beyond the basic scheme that matter.

Scouting departments don't get changed out with new coaching staffs which is one of the reasons changing schemes is not ideal.

I don't think anyone expected a complete overhaul that it bacame.

Yeah I thought they would keep Church. Wasn't a fan of carr or claiborne.

Thought Anthony Brown would progress but he has regressed.

Hoped Byron would finally dial it all in and become a playmaker. He is no better than he was in his rookie year.

Thought Heath would consistently make the kind of big plays he did in spot duty. He hasnt.

Hoped Scandrick would be cut. He's still here, 5 steps behind his receiver as usual.

Marinelli would likely retire. He'll make more in his time with the Cowboys than the rest of his career put together even if he gets fired tomorrow.

It's weird to see the same posters who couldn't wait to get these DBs out the door turn around and complain about these DBs going out the door.
I don't think the DB play, esprcially the CBs for the Cowboys in 2017 is much different than in 2016 in regards to coverage. The LBs have killed the Zone coverage by being late or non-existent as help-defenders.

The Patriots OC has already failed as a HC. I would definitely take a look at their DC though. But the point I'm trying to make is if it was so easy to find a top notch DC as @Sydla was implying, every team would have one.
How much did he fail as a coach and how much was his personnel moves?

2014 playoff game

marinelli: my system requires shuffling players in and out to optimize performance
rodgers: thank you very much

- 5 yard penalty

marinelli: my system still requires shuffling to optimize performance
rodgers: wow, the gift that keeps giving

- 5 yard penalty

marinelli: my system is perfect and proven and i am not changing a thing

Just goes to show how much the coaching staff and scheme has to do with players performing at a higher level. I don’t think anyone was crying about these guys going, however viable replacements would have been nice. In hindsight seeing what they spent the money on, I would rather have kept Claiborne or Church instead of Nolan Carroll.

Church got a multi-year deal and Claiborne needed a chance of scenery.

Yep. That's what's killed us on defense.

should have drafter Watt
I'm not convinced he would be a good 4-3 DE.

He has 4 sacks but I saw two of them and they were not due to him beating his man. He was unblocked on 1 and the QB scrambled into him on another.

CB Kevin King was drafted at #33 and looks really good.

And people may complain about it right now, that they are gone.

But for the most part many complained and complained about Clairborne and Carr. One could not stay healthy, the the other did not make plays.

Some wanted to keep Church and just as many were willing to let him go as they thought he would cost too much.

Many thought wilcox was always taking bad angles and or lost out there.

Heck I think the one that had the more liking him than the others was McClain and that was not a large majority of people mad that he was gone.

I was hoping we would get to see more of Awuzie this season so far, just to get a feel of how we think he will pan out.
I think we got a decent look at Lewis and I feel most believe he has a future here.

I think most feel about Heath now as they did at the start of the season..>He might make a play here and there but he should not be the starter.
Have to see more of X.Woods. He seems to flash here and there but at other times you can tell he is still a rookie that has missed time as he can get lost.

I imagine we will see more of Woods and Awuzie.

This should help us going into the next offeason/draft in seeing if we still need to work on CB or S.

A bunch, if not most, of the posters on this site would have lost their minds had Dallas resigned Carr, Claiborne, or Church for what their new teams paid them. This 20/20 hindsight is interesting.

It’s also meaningless.

In game reviews I watched repeated as CB Brown plays outside leverage in zone which means he can't defend in-breaking routes without help. Repeatedly the inside help was late or non-existent. Jaylon has been the intended help defender on many of those plays that failed.

i was no fan of these players but i thought mo had turned a corner and would not have minded bringing him back. i'm disappointed in the franchise for not using a little forethought to see this potential mass exodus coming last offseason and planned ahead for it.

many fell for the total changeover by the fo. some of us did not. some wanted carr. some wanted church. the amount paid is similar on the level wasted on garbage pile fa's picked by the fo.

Yep. Should have drafted Ramsey instead of overreaching for the RB when we had the chance.
