Stephen Jones wants to see Dez Bryant in better shape

misleading headline from that dumpster fire pft.

He says right out because of business he missed the offseason program last year and it affected him, this year he is there working out.

PFT doing what it does.

“He’s done an outstanding job and been committed to being around and I think that’s only getting better. That’s what we need of him, is to get well and do his rehab and then get in great shape,” Jones said. “I think one of the tough things about last year for Dez, he plays with such energy, that with the contract dispute, if you will, he wasn’t around, which is business, and consequently he probably wasn’t in his best shape going into the season and then you start to add the injuries when players aren’t in shape and they continued on through training camp and then on into the season and we ended up not having him much last year, so if he can get his rehab done and get himself in top condition, then I think we’ll see the same Dez that we saw two years ago.”

I don't think Dez issues are he is not in shape I think he is not that strong mentally Anytime he faces a top CB in the league they tend to get in his head and it throws him off his game.

Good to hear from someone in the front office. Now if only the coaching staff and trainers can actually follow through and get those results from Dez.

Dez is always spent by the fourth quarter.

He spends so much energy jaw-jacking with the other team and stomping up and down the bench between series, he's exhausted in the end.

It doesn't help that he's not the crispest of route runners either. Without a full tank, he's a rather easy cover late in games.

Seemed fine on 4th & 1 @ Lambeau

Not worried about Dez, worried that our qb dosen't understand that Dez is at his best when he looks like he's covered and he shoudnt be looking him off...just by looking him off you miss out on an easy 30 yard gain.

He is never covered even when he is...one of the few reasons why we go 8-8 instead of 13-3.

Amazing that Ro McClain seems to always escape criticism, yet Dez is out of shape.

What pics does 55 own and of whom?

And even if he is calling players, out so what? Fans are always saying that the front office never holds any coaches or players accountable, so now that someone in the front office does is it a problem?

Fans want to be the only ones to do anything.

Since when does Ro McClain escape criticism?

He's a lazy, worthless piece of crap that needs to be replaced as soon as possible. That's the general feeling.

Yeah and you would probably be criticizing Romo when it got picked. Not usually a good decision to throw into coverage. Some of those defenders out there in the NFL are pretty good payers!

I never criticized Brady when he kept passing the ball to Moss in triple coverage.

dez was out of condition last year. Lifting weights and doing crunches isn't football conditioning. Same for wrestling and boxing. You can look lean and solid but it isn't the same. Boxing coaches used to say you look strong outside, now let's get you strong inside. I was like huh? Check out these guns coach.

  • Dez is 27, and has 3 years max being the #1 receiver. We should draft one soon to develop
  • Contrary to what many zoners think, he is not a tactician and elite route runner, but instead excels at jump balls and muscle plays. As he gets older, jump balls will get harder and he will need to use skill to get open. He needs to work on that.
  • The front office was right trying to franchise him, depending on what he does this year, that 70 mill contract could be a disaster
  • Dez will not be a hall of famer. He is currently #193 in career receiving yards behind tight end Vernon Davis and has about 1/3rd the total yards that Terrell Owens ended with and 1/4th the yds Jerry rice did. If he works his butt off, he should break the top 100 within 2 years.
I hope that he gets his head straight, stop acting up, stop doing his "skits" when he knows the camera is on him, starts studying the game more, work on the little nuances to route running and becomes a complete WR. He can do it, if he would just put the monkey down, and playbook up.

It seems Stephen wants to blame Dez for being out of shape due to his holdout when he was the other party involved in said negotiations.

Game shape and in shape are two different things. It is better to be in shape than out of shape though lol.

Players job is to stay in shape, it is not just a job during the season. yes Dallas had to work out a deal and not really uncommon when the numbers are as high as what they were between Dez and the Cowboys.

There goes Ole Erod....who has never met a fact that he'll let get in the way of a good rant.

Dez's production by quarter:

1st Quarter: 86 receptions 1186 yards 15 TDs
2nd Quarter: 113 receptions 1593 yards 14 TDs
3rd Quarter: 94 receptions 1429 yards 10 TDs
4th Quarter: 114 receptions 1529 yards 20 TDs

1st half: 199 receptions 2779 yards 29 TDs
2nd half: 208 receptions 2958 yards 30 TDs

Yes...definitely gassed and an easy cover late in games.

This is embarrassing Erod.

Being buffed up and having cardio endurance are two different things.

I think he's in for a big year though
