As far as Hitchens goes he took a big step backward this season... He didn't look anywhere close to being as physical as he was in '14.
And I wouldn't want him starting.
They tried to put him at SAM and it was a failure. He looks much better in space where he can be a chase down guy. I don't think he represents elite ability or will ever be considered one of the best, but I think he could be a very good Mike/Will, and provide stability at the position for a decade. He needs to be put in a position to succeed though, and SAM just isn't it. For any of our linebackers to really play to their potential, we have to address the DL though. Without a single player commanding double teams, the offense has a free lineman every down. A defense isn't going to win that battle very often unless they're extremely aggressive.
I am actually terrified neither By Jones and Hitchens are going to ever hit their full potential because their versatility makes them too easy to move around, while never settling in. Granted, Jones has significantly more upside than Hitchens, but I think both could be very good pros in the right roles. Defined roles.
