He didn’t play as much as they were hoping because he was a liability. Now he’s going to have to play more for better or worse.

Brett Veach is not doing radio shows either.
Which means he is doing it wrong. Probably why he can't get the residents of Kansas City to pay for and build them an ugly shrine (at least on the inside, it's a gorgeous stadium from the outside).

He's too busy winning Super Bowls to focus on the important things.

So explain how you can accounting trick dead money into nonexistence.

I won't hold my breath.
No one is saying dead money doesn't exist. No one says that it's not an issue. But the reality is teams all deal with dead money, they all have the same problems but when you look at actual DATA from the NFLPA and other sources, the Cowboys typically rank near the middle to bottom of cash spent over periods. Again, Blogging the Boys had a lengthy article about this last month with the basic premise that Dallas does not, in fact, spend as much as other franchises typically. For example, from 2021 to 2023, the Cowboys were 30th in cash spent over that period and that includes the massive extension to Dak.

Is it your contention that Stephen is right and that, in fact, no one really outspends us?

Sure and the Eagles came into the offseason with less than $3M in dead money and restructured literally all they could and ended up with $30M in dead money.

Again Dak alone was about the same coming into the season.

Everyone has to deal with dead money but that does not mean the dynamic plays out the same.

I take everything the Joneses say with a grain of salt.

Who would have thought that after Jerry, this guy will make us rue the day Jerry left us. Even trying just to win the NFCE will be a struggle. I can see the Giants and Commandos even passing Dallas. Stevie doesn't know that he doesn't know. Worse than his old man. Unbelievable. :banghead:

There may be a disconnect over a short period of time where the cash spend is significantly different than the cap hit, but over the long run there has to be a 100% correlation. Any difference in cash spend (vs. the cap hit) is simply a function of contract structure.

Maybe I’m old school or old fashioned. Or maybe I’m just off in general, but it really rubs me the wrong way when you publicly mention guys by name as the reason you have to hold back. That bothers me. Just keep that in house. Just amateur in general imo
He's doing that so the players will keep their price down. We're not moving on from anybody. Just trying to sign everybody cheaply. But they still won't use the extra money to get any real good players.

I think it is as simple as they are saying no to and towing a hardline with Prescott. They just paid Diggs handsomely less than a year ago. They pay talent, I think they think Prescott's talent is not commensurate with his asking price.

If so I agree wholeheartedly.

Teams are required by rule to spend 89% of the cap over a 4 year period. Dallas certainly meets this. The cash may differ in the short run, but not in the long run. I do not believe Dallas is skimping to save 11% (100% - 89%). That makes no sense.

Dallas is facing a potential mountain of dead money- and there's no manipulating that. That's a dollar for dollar reduction in the available cap. This is why you see the inaction by management right now, in combination with the large contract demands of its stars.

I’m not disagreeing with you, I just don’t like that as a practice. The negotiations through the media is weaksauce and it may alienate the players being publicly named which adds to the toxic culture we’re dealing with. I agree with you that it’s an attempt to keep the price down I just don’t think it’s good for the team or the culture.

Prescott's agent clearly uses the media. He came out a couple weeks ago talking about ho great his leverage was. It is just the way things are nowadays.

LOL this is funny. How about actually spending in free agency, not the usual dumpster diving. Every team in the league is active except for these morons.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones on @1053thefan

on Jerry Jones saying Dallas would be "all in" this season: "Everybody has their own definition of what that means, but I've never not known us to be all in, nor have I known anyone we compete against not to be all in." What does he say to fans that don't believe the Cowboys have been "all in" this offseason? "We spend max, max money year in and year out. All 32 can only spend the same amount of money over a five-year stretch. When we're all said and done, we max out our salary cap every year. We will have done that. What comes with having a good roster, which we do, we're also looking towards signing our own guys. "It doesn't mean it happens overnight. But when you're wanting to sign players like Dak (Prescott) and Micah (Parsons) and CeeDee (Lamb), then you have to hold money back if you want to have a realistic chance of signing those guys."

pumping sunshine up people behind so that they continue to buy tickets and jerseys

we spent 187M in cash this year, dead last in NFL. but yeah, I get it its money that was paid in the past counting against the cap, except in 2023 it was 190M and 146M in 2022

but I give him credit in 2021 they were top cash spenders at 262M.
so on average about 196M

which means we are spending at about or close to salary cap floor of 89% of total cap.
this is what losing teams in the league tend to do.

This is the smoke screen the try to use.

I have 50k to spend so I buy 1 car. I spent the whole 50k. Or I can put down 25k and finance the rest and have 2 cars. Or put 10k down and finance 5 cars. Spending the max in each case. Stepen only buys the 1 car and says look, we're maxed out.

Bingo!!!!!! They have no problem signing him for X amount ( maybe top 5 money ) but if he wants to reset the market as the highest-paid QB........prove it. In other words, dance in the NFCCG and/or Super Bowl and we can talk.

Prescott and his agent seem intent on getting over $50M AAV, a shorter contract, and another no trade clause. It makes sense because the Cowboys did the much the same last time.

It is obvious the last contract was a mistake. Under no circumstances should they make the same mistake twice.
