Their cap management philosophy is to push the can down the road in perpetuity. They love to over pay for their own average talent as if they were elite.
Spot on....the continual requirement to be relevant and an inability to vary the contracts. If we want to be like the Eagles,we need to suck and start again, rather than wasting resources.
The problem is we don't have a Roseman, with imagination to orchestrate this change of strategy. Until we're brave enough or insightful enough to pull of a Wentz type of trade we'll just be the 'same ole', rinse and repeat.

Hmmm......let's see..........Salary cap hell and winning the division, advancing in the playoffs, and maybe, just maybe the SB.......or Salary cap hell and not coming close to winning the division, out of playoff contention early, or going home early. Hmmm. How such a tangled web is woven.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones when asked on @1053thefan about how the Eagles roster is constructed vs. how the Cowboys are constructed with all of their salary cap issues:

“I’ll say it again, it’s the world’s smallest violin, but unfortunately we have over 50 percent of our cap on (injured reserve). Those things, when they hit and hit at the wrong time, it makes for a challenge for a team. Obviously, San Francisco is another team that’s had their share of injuries this year in terms of a big percentage of their cap sitting on IR. Those are things that come with the territory."

"I know everybody has their different battles with the cap that hit at different times. Philly will have theirs coming up where they’ll have to make tough decisions. But, yeah, we’re constantly looking at ways to look at our salary cap to give us the best opportunity with players like Dak (Prescott), CeeDee (Lamb) and Micah (Parsons), and you throw (Trevon) Diggs in there, to let those guys hopefully, No. 1, stay on the field, but No. 2, give us the best opportunity to make a great run.”

This team could have been at full strength, and we were going to get the same results because it's so badly flawed at key positions. The Jones are nothing more than a family of billionaire lunatics!

He’s basically saying what we all know without quite saying it…we’d rather stay in the comfort zone of being slightly above average, relevant and highly profitable than actually attempt to do what it takes to win a Super Bowl and potentially fail.

There is no way in hell Barkley is getting close to 2000 yards in this offense.. you would be getting a Barkley closer to the Giants than the Eagles….

SF added Brandon Staley to their coaching.. nick sorenson became their DC. they dropped from 3rd to 22nd in defense and I’m pretty sure coaching was a big reason why. They were 29th on red zone defense.

The injury excuse card is gonna be played hard this offseason to explain away the horror of 2024.

This will be immediately followed by the “we are finally healthy so we will be competitive again!” card which will be played in tandem with the “we like our guys” and “we are up against the cap so can’t add FAs” cards.

Finally, JJ will drop the ultimate “we are hanging around the rim so we are gonna run it back” card and it will be an offseason to remember.

Cowboys!
Can he realistically sell the "we are hanging around the rim" nonsense if we finish below .500.? The "If not for the injuries...." Bromide will only go so far.

This team is so obsessed with the cap they forgot there are games to play every season.

Right now there is a four year window with Dak, CeeDee, and some other key players. A smart front office would be aggressive and try to build a contender for the short term.

Instead we have Cap Boy tossing and turning every night worried about how the 2029 cap is going to look. As I have said here dozens of times, the Cowboys just keep worrying about a "next year" that never gets here.

If the Eagles get to the Super Bowl, do they really care about when the time comes up to pay?

The idea is to win sometimes.
Just remember, the Eagles if they make the SB this year, would have made three in the last 8 years. Every time they make one, fans here (and probably our idiotic owners too) say, "oh boy, they sold out for their run and now they are going to pay the price!!!!"

And magically, they somehow quickly clean up their cap and retool.

Jerry and Stephen should never put the word Eagles in their mouths. It just makes them look foolish. Roseman is running circles around these clowns.

100 percent. The Jones boys make it sound like the Cowboys are the only team with big contracts to their key players. The cap is the same for all 32 teams. It's meant to be an equalizer.

In the case of Cowboys vs. Eagles, it demonstrates the huge divide in the front office. The Cowboys are still number one in gaining revenue, but the Eagles have left them in the dirt in roster construction.

Couldn’t agree more. That’ll never add up, but they are scared to be in a position to not sell the BS….yet they will end up there anyway. Maddening.

I also think Steve doesn’t want to inherit what he would consider a cap disaster when he takes over himself.

You’re actually better off taking a few legit shots and having some expected down years to reboot with higher draft picks, but they don’t get it. Watch and see if New England doesn’t usurp them before they get over the top.

They like what they are doing even though it clearly doesn’t work. They think every draft pick will be a productive starter. I’m figuring the coaching/scouting staff tells them so as they can’t see otherwise for themselves.
