Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones when asked on @1053thefan about how the Eagles roster is constructed vs. how the Cowboys are constructed with all of their salary cap issues:

“I’ll say it again, it’s the world’s smallest violin, but unfortunately we have over 50 percent of our cap on (injured reserve). Those things, when they hit and hit at the wrong time, it makes for a challenge for a team. Obviously, San Francisco is another team that’s had their share of injuries this year in terms of a big percentage of their cap sitting on IR. Those are things that come with the territory."

"I know everybody has their different battles with the cap that hit at different times. Philly will have theirs coming up where they’ll have to make tough decisions. But, yeah, we’re constantly looking at ways to look at our salary cap to give us the best opportunity with players like Dak (Prescott), CeeDee (Lamb) and Micah (Parsons), and you throw (Trevon) Diggs in there, to let those guys hopefully, No. 1, stay on the field, but No. 2, give us the best opportunity to make a great run.”

So what's the excuse for the team sucking when all of those guys were healthy?

Sure seems like he avoided the question

IMO Jerry is getting closer and closer to telling Stephen to go sit in the corner and stop telling him he can't do what he wants. The problem is "impulsive Jerry" is almost as bad as "refuse to spend cap space on free agents Jerry". We, the fans, lose due to his incompetence either way
True, but there's a nice core in place right now that needs to be supplemented with good players that cost money. Would a bit of impulse spending be such a bad thing short term?

Stephen is forever prepared to make excuses for simply being incompetent at his job.
He knows not how irritating it is for fans to tolerate! He'd do the world a favor to retire!

He wouldn’t have let CD go, of course not. But he would’ve signed him a year earlier for probably about $8 million less per year. And he would’ve found a trade partner for Dak. And if Dak would’ve refused the trade because of his no trade clause, he would’ve let it play out without resigning him.
He wouldn't have traded Prescott if he didn't have his replacement ready to go. The Eagles of always locked up their players 1 or 2 years in advance. We don't for whatever reason. If Prescott struggles next year we would have screwed that up to. This front office has a lot to learn.

Or had someone ready to take over.

Hes going to be just as terrible as daddy. They are both completely full of crap. Our only hope is he can't take the heat and hires a real GM.

That's a fact, my friend! Jerry and Stephen are hapless failures, as far as their managerial duties are concerned. It's, obviously, something that doesn't concern them, as long as the generous profits keep making them fat and sassy. Like all of us, I'm totally disgusted and very likely to make preparations to jump ship, for a close relationship with the Houston Texans in the foreseeable future.

This BS of being Jerry's sucker isn't something that I'm prepared to endure much longer. It seems a matter of time before the cellar will be this team's resting place. I've been a faithful fan since 1960. It pains me to no end to feel it's on the verge of ending. Drastic changes are in order for these things to change. The chances of such changes coming to fruition aren't obvious, by any means. I'm just a terribly sad and disgusted fan. :(

Never. I can't jump ship and somehow feel any emotions or loyalty towards another team.

I'll simply tune out and stop watching/caring. I'd root for someone else if I had it in me, but I just don't.

I understand completely. It's taken me 64 years of this, before today's torment for me to even consider jumping ship. I haven't done so just yet, but the chances of it coming to pass are increasingly pressing on my mind. For the time being, I'll be watching and hoping for something to keep me from doing what I've been considering for a long time. The team that I fell in love with just isn't the same anymore, and I don't see it changing.

Exactly. It took this team three months to figure out Rico Dowdle should get more than 8 carries per game, and all of a sudden boom, he's a 1000 yard back.
Plus Barkley excels in space and hitting open holes. When he needs to dance in the backfield, he is known for a lot of negative yardage plays, which he would be having here, especially hwo bad our passing attack was especially this year. The Eagles OL blocking excels in allowing barkley to do what he does best.

If Stephen can't handle managing this team's financial structure, it's high time for him, and/or Jerry, to find someone who can!

That’s along the lines of what Ive been saying.

If you’ve maxed out the cap on a team that isn’t good enough, and there’s no money to improve, where is this going?

Their answer is the usual….they expect one draft to fix it all. They aren’t good at this.

I don't give a damn what Stephen has to say.
It's well that you shouldn't. He and Jerry are both in denial of the fact that they're hopelessly inept. Denial is their only hope for forgiveness. ;)

Very true -- yet, he's offering every excuse in the book to escape blame for struggling so much! Not an ideal situation, by any means!
He gets his behind handed to him in contract negotiations (especially Dak, twice) then somehow tries to scapegoat a lack of cap room as a reason they can't add talent.

Do they learn from it? No, they will try to make Parsons the bad guy and then wait to the last second and overpay,

A perpetual cycle of ineptitude.
