Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones on @1053thefan when asked about Jerry Jones saying they couldn't afford Derrick Henry in free agency:

"You got to pick and choose where you're going to emphasize and where you're going to put your cap resources. Certainly we've done that with Dak (Prescott) and CeeDee (Lamb) and Zack Martin and obviously on the other side of the ball with (Trevon) Diggs. You can only pay so many of those guys. And it's real. I know everybody wants to say that you could push something out, but at some point as you push out you're going to have to then make a hard decision on somebody like Micah (Parsons)."

Stephen Jones made it clear that they are not going to do anything that would prevent them from re-signing Parsons. So if they make a trade, it would unlikely involve a player under contract beyond this season.

Stephen Jones on potentially making a move this season if they wanted: "Could we take advantage of an opportunity if we felt like the situation was there? Absolutely we can. Obviously the cap is a lot more than just about this year. Where our pressure starts to hit is going forward, as we try to have three players the caliber of Dak and CeeDee and Micah."

Why not take some risks right now and not worry about the future?

Stephen Jones: "(That scenario) goes to giving up on somebody like Micah to where you'd have to move on from him. If you want to push it all out there then you won't have the resources to pay a player like Micah, pay a player like Tyler Smith. ... We believe in our process. We believe in this football team. We believe in this coaching staff. We believe we're going to right the ship."

If you purchased a business or opened a business in a state that pretty much has a monopoly and that state has grown 46% from 2000 to 2023 how successful do you believe you would have been financially???

I'm just wondering with the strategy they're using, what exactly was gained by not extending Dak a year ago, and what was gained by waiting all the way until after preseason to sign Dak and Lamb when their price was at the absolute highest it was ever going to be?
What was gained from this? We could have dak on a bargain contract had we not tagged him.

Isn’t that what they have done with Dak pushed everything forward and still paying for his previous contract that was pushed forward so it’s easier/better to move 60mil/year than the 8mil Henry would cost?

LOL. Team has 23 mil in cap space next year, including Dak's 89mil cap hit.
It's going to be restructured, aka "pushed forward", and probably down to 53.09 mil, freeing up 36mil in cap space.

CDL has a 26mil base, that can be restructured to save 20mil in cap space.

Derrick Henry could of been cut in 2025 and count as a 3 mil dead cap hit.

He's full of ****, and hope he chokes on a hotdog.
They actually have a little over $29M in Cap Room next year WITH Dak's $89M and CeeDee's $35M. So, they don't even have to touch Dak's hit - they'll have some of the $23M remaining from the current cap to roll over into next year's numbers BEFORE they restructure anybody's contract. I'm betting they restructure CeeDee BEFORE Dak...and, Micah's $21+M Cap Hit will probably come down when they extend him as well.

Basically, any BS they try to spin next year will be exactly that...BULL ISH!!!!!!

I wonder why no one else believes in this process???

The media will continue to give them a pass on the mistake of trading for Trance.

We made a couple of decent trades last year that helped the team. Then we traded for Trance. What a disaster.

It's amazing how the Eagles signed their QB and 1 WR to big money and yet still had money to go sign Barkley who has been a huge diffrence maker to that team. Without Barkley they might be 0-3 right now. See how that's done cap boy????!!! They signed two of their important players to big money like you did and still had the idea to go out and use free agency to make their team better. How is that cap boy? Do they play with a different cap than you do??? The fans are done buying the Jones boys crap that they tried to feed us every year. You and your daddy suck at your job it's just that simple. You two clowns hold the Cowboys back.

The audacity of these Jones’ clowns. Treating us fans like we are morons. Gaslighting us and lying right to our faces, as if we are unable to understand how the salary cap works.

Yeah Stephen. You’re the only person who has ever had to get **** done with a budget. As if every single business doesn’t also have budgets to deal with. As if every single middle class person in this country doesn’t have to budget their expenses.

What a fricking joke this ******* is.

The "Owner" of the Cowboys purchased a team in the fastest growing state over the last 30 years.

The Cowboys could sell out the stadium with No Dallas fans. We are arguably the most hated football team in the league.

We by far have the most fans that like us and hate us.

It is almost fool proof for our "Owner" to be financially unsuccessful.

My problem with it is they didn't even pick up the phone, call him, and try. They just assumed they couldn't make it work. We don't need an explanation of how you need to pay the players you have. We need you to make the call and try. He wanted to play here. He may have taken a pay cut to play here. But, you never picked up the phone so you have no idea. And, maybe they could have worked something out if you were really vested in trying?

Our "GM" does not make phone calls. He waits for the phone to ring.

CLASSIC Cap Boy excuse.

This team keeps worrying about "down the line" every single season. They keep playing the cap for a "next year" that never gets here.

Make the moves that put your team in position to win on a year to year basis. Like every other team that actually knows what they are doing. PATHETIC.
