Stephen: Wants Dak's deal done before season

You would rather wait until he's a free agent and either have to pay him then or franchise him for 28+M for one season? Had we re-signed DLaw last year we probably could have gotten him cheaper. If Dak has a productive 2019 season which is very likely with another year of experience under his belt along with our improved receiving corp, his price tag is going to go way up. It would be better to try and work something out now, rather than possibly have to pay him 30+M after a big 2019 season. Look how much he improved with the addition of Cooper last season. He put up around 2200 yards the last 8 games of the season. Gallup is only going to get better in year two and with the addition of Cobb and Witten, Dak's numbers could go way up and so will his contract demands.

People honestly think Dak is going to regress or fall apart lol that is literally the least likely scenario. Maybe if you predict he’ll stay relatively similar then we can have an honest discussion; but thinking the guy is going to take such a step back he won’t be resigned is just a haters fairy tale

The Giants had a future HOF QB who won 2 SB's playing for them. They went all out just like we did and we won in dramatic fashion. Dak had a lot of pressure on him with his rookie deal coming to an end after the 2019 season. If the receivers we had were getting it done before Cooper got here we would have never traded a #1 for him. You still haven't answered my question. For the THIRD TIME if Dak doesn't prove to "you" in 2019 he's deserving of a long-term contract assuming he doesn't sign before the season what do you do at the QB position?

How much we have now may not be the same in a year - a lot can happen.

Somebody is going to be the odd man out in this - even if it's not a guy we have mentioned yet. You give out big contracts and overpay, someone is leaving without a contract eventually.

You can't have a ton of money tied up between a top 3 RB, overpay for a middling QB, and giving big money to WR along with the O-Line getting decent money and it not impact you somewhere on the defense.

This is also when I start to look at being able to pay depth players in the future as well. You lose somewhere.

The only things that can happen that tie up more space is signing ppl. There’s nothing unpredictable about cap space and contract management.

If anything, guys like Witten and Lee plus the 10 other 1 year deal guys who aren’t priorities will leave and make it even easier to keep the core together. You’ll never have enough to sign the WHOLE team, role players, etc. But for once this team has made decisions with the future in mind, setting it up to where we can pay to keep all the guys we want. Key word being want.

It wasn't a trade and I wouldn't bet they regret it, Cousins had almost 4300 yards passing and 30 TD's with a 99.7 passer rating. The QB they had was a flop in Denver and was sent packing after one season.

I lost track how many times Tyrod Taylor was brought up to replace Dak, with some claiming he's as good if not better than Dak. Taylor just signed with his 4th team in March after lasting only one season in Cleveland. The Browns were so sure he wasn't the answer, they used the #1 overall pick on Mayfield after they had already signed Taylor. You have fans here who want to trade multiple #1s for Russell Wilson, who only a few years ago was being called a bus driver by fans on this board. Everything fans here were saying about Wilson they're now saying about Dak. There can't be a dumber fan base in the NFL than this one and the biggest collection of dummies end up on this board.

I specifically said someone is walking, did I not? You are the one who is saying "we have the money to pay everybody" - so which is it? Maybe choose your words a little more carefully.

Again, you're either going to lose a valuable starter(s) or you're losing depth. You cannot have this much money tied up to one side of the ball and have money to pay "everybody", your words. We are not going to pay everybody, we won't, and we will lose valuable players somewhere on our team.
