It always makes me laugh when people claim hey we can with Dak if he just drives the bus. But that could be said for the majority of starting NFL quarterbacks!

You don't pay a QB to drive the bus. If a QB isn't a difference maker or is unable to make plays when required against good teams then you can't justify a huge contract because he's a company man that says the right things.
I just keep coming back to Catch17's quote that really sums it all up and that is...
"We need to stop trying to figure out ways to win with Dak. We paid him to be the answer not the problem."

That really ends the discussion, for me anyway. lol

Once again, the Jones's have mismanaged the skill set of one of their players.

Just as they tried to make Marion Barber a starting RB and Byron Jones a safety, they have attempted to make Dak Prescott a prolific passing quarterback and that is not what he is or ever was.

Dak Prescott can be an exceptional game manager with a strong running attack. .He has the ability to get out of trouble and extend plays. However, he is not a strong arm, pinpoint passer. If they had just continued the same approach as in his rookie season with a few added wrinkles then he would have probably produced the same mistake free results. With the defense the Cowboys had last season they could have just told Dak that it's okay to throw the ball away and let the defense keep it close.

Any time that Dak has to throw the ball more than 28 times there is going to be a problem. I can see them throwing more if the team is a few TD's behind in the 4th quarter but they went "Air Coryell" when they absolutely didn't have to. It doesn't matter if they only average 3 yards on the ground, they would be eating the clock and staying away from turnovers. They would improve the ability "play action" to be more effective.

Yes, they can win with Dak, but what does that really mean? We know that the Ravens won with Trent Dilfer, the Giants won with Jeff Hostetler and the Bucs won with Brad Johnson. What did they all have in common? They had a smothering defense and the Cowboys can have the same for 2023 if they make the right moves.

However, that's the problem. Despite having a superior scouting department, the ultimate decision maker doesn't have the ability or talent to make the right decisions.

What is the definition of insanity? Some say it when you do the same thing over and over and over again and expect different results.

The fact that Jerry still holds the position of GM is insane.

He has to get fans pumped for those continued jersey sales. They will make a slight modification so the Dak faithfuls will go buy another jersey.

Myself, I don't buy any jersey's.
I will buy some jerseys when Dallas wins the Super Bowl.

Guess I will not be buying any jerseys.

"I've got all the faith in the world we can win this thing with Dak," Jones said from the scouting combine in Indianapolis."

Why?

"Because we know him. We know what he's about. His leadership skills are undeniable. Impeccable work ethic," Jones said. "Other than he hadn't won some key playoff games, he's everything you want in a quarterback. From the day he walked in the door, he's won a lot of games. We just got to get over the hump."

Prescott is set to count $49.2 million against the 2023 salary cap. He is signed through 2024. If the Cowboys restructure Prescott's contract this year, they can create up to $22 million in cap space. With an extension, they could create even more room.

"We've got to have a plan to ultimately extend Dak," Jones said.
Right you are govnor, right you are.
We can win with Dak if we really, really wish for it with all our hearts.
Otherwise we are screwed for the next 5 years.

Every top QB has weapons but we're the only team who trades away our best wr and tells our QB good luck.
Not if you're paying the QB 20% of the CAP. Mahomes was only getting 17% and he lost Tyreek. The whole premise of paying the QB is that he also shoulders the added responsibility of playing with cheaper players around him.

If we had kept Amari, our CAP deficit at this moment would be nearly $30m.

Why does our front office remind me of the little engine that could. I think I can, I think I can. Can we we trade the jones boys and our 1st round pick for Robert Kraft? Embarrassing.

Yup, other than THAT
Also don't pay attention to the very glaring fact that winning those key playoff games are a pre-requisite to winning a SB. Onward.....

Yes because SF offense was clearly dominant in that game.

They scored 19 points and Dak was directly responsible for 1/3 of them
And they scored 7 without a qb.

I know what I would want to face

If they don't do something soon, those "clicks" will be TV's turning off or switching channels.
Agreed. Time is running out on relevance. Dak can win it all but he needs a bunch of help that Stephen is reluctant to pull the trigger on. If you ask the masses at this point the cost of going 6-11 a couple years is ok to take the shot.

Then we could say they really tried.

I like that and that is the honest truth. Dak is supposed to be a difference maker in the playoffs. And is getting paid to be able to make plays when the going gets tough. He ends up being the weakness on the whole team once the get into the playoffs. And no amount of superstars can carry a man who is choking.
