Huh? When did he get a chance? And his is far from a gadget.
yeah, saw enough samples to understand he will never be anything more than a gadget. and even in that, it just wasn't working out. he is nothing special. so people need to get over their fascination.

Deuce isn't fast, he just look like he's running much faster than everyone. That's due to his legs beign much shorter which causes him to take more strides.

He's too little.

Gonna get trucked if he ever tries to pass block.

He might make the practice squad.

The way he was handled last year was criminal. Big Mike failed him in every way possible. On draft day he said they would scheme up plays for him and blah blah blah. They did nothing. I thought it was the coaching staffs job to put players in the best position to make plays and impact the game. The Cowboys get a big F grade for their job last year.
We have to defer to the people who know his ability best and see him everyday.

They don't trust him at this point and there must be a legitimate reason why.....it's not like there was a deep effective roster of running backs keeping him off the field

We were the 13th ranked rushing team....even the Comancheros were ahead of us.

I am on board the Deuce Caboose. Deuce did not get the amount of touches he should have last year, nor the quality amount of touches -

YouTuber “DoubleMove” pointed out last year against the Patriots, Deuce had 8 rushing attempts for 9 yards. However, he had 12 yards after contact that game.

The run blocking has to get better for Deuce to succeed.

Interestingly, in two years rushing behind a Kansas State offensive line that included future NFL Hall of Famer Cooper Beebe, Deuce had 528 carries for 2,962 yards for 27 TDs. He had a career 5.5 ypc. He caught 100+ passes for 1,280 yards. Simply put, he was tearing up top-ranked programs regularly.

I still believe. I don’t believe the traits that made Deuce a special player suddenly disappeared when he was drafted into the NFL.
Dude his size has to have what #22 had in abundance and that is heart. No way in hades did they use him correctly last season. Deuce can catch the ball, a weapon in space it's not rocket science and if rb by commitee is our forward passage then he needs to be a part of that group. Use him wisely and ye shall reap the benefits MM.

I just think Deuce is a very long shot to make it in the NFL. To me it looks like his legs are short, even for a short guy like him.

That is one of the things that makes him special. His ability to change direction in the open field and make tacklers look silly is no doubt aided by his stature.

*throws red flag*

The false assumption embedded in that statement that makes the conclusion false is pretty damn clear if one barely thinks about it...

You had Tony Pollard as the recognized bell cow back last season. They... "the people who know"... spent pretty much the entire season waiting for TP of 2021-22 to re-emerge after his season-ending injury vs. SF.

"So why wasn't Deuce the #2?"

Pretty damn clear if one barely thinks about it... again.

TP's biggest handicap was exactly what Deuce's is. Reasons sometimes are legit reasons, not excuses. You should anticipate that if your bell cow back isn't well regarded for his pass protection, you sure as hell are going to make sure your anointed #2 is someone who is, at least, decent at it. Rico is decent, if not good, at it.

So... "don't trust him at this point"... ?!?

That merits a loud "nah dog."

2023 was 2023. 2024 is 2024. The Pollard era is out. And moreover, it's explicitly been said by those same "people who know" that the bell cow era has been set aside.

That means everything to this conversation.

First and foremost, "committee" as it is commonly understood across the NFL means you've gonna give all of your backs some pieces of the playbook. So, while we'll have to see for ourselves if the common understanding also applies in DAL, the conventional wisdom should be that, at minimum, three RBs are going to be getting some workload.

Second, somewhat obviously, that means there's not going to be the same reason for not playing Deuce. When Deuce is in the game, that's not going to be the dead giveaway that it would have been last season that the opposition can disregard the pass.

And that was the problem. To be fair to your claim, yes, they didn't trust Deuce to pass protect, but that was another way of saying what I just said... Deuce's presence in a game at any point when it was still contested automatically gave the defense a strong clue on whether a pass or a run play was coming. And that's a lot like having the advantage of hearing a trash can lid bang, and knowing you should anticipate something other than a fastball is coming.

Deuce isn't fast, he just look like he's running much faster than everyone.
You're not an idiot, but this is such a nonsense comment you made.

We're not watching how fast his legs are churning.

We're watching... and seeing... that legit high-tier FBS programs' DBs aren't tracking him down. They may be as fast, but they only keep pace, with very few exceptions. And his advantage over them quite often seems to be that he gets to his top speed... accelerates... faster than they can get to their top speed.

I'm proposing that the way to use him is as simple as giving him a legitimate O-line to run behind.
and less straight dives up the middle as if he's Derrick the King Henry, or Zeke Slowest back feed me Elliott!

Stop it already. Baby was drafted because of his daddy and Jerry got some great PR. Football is for big strong men.

He can't block. He'll just get the QB injured. Anytime he takes the field, a huge part of the playbook is eliminated. He can't break tackles, and can't move the pile. He has some skills, but his limitations make him nothing but a gadget player.

I'm so sick of hearing "they just need to use him right". Sure- they can draw up plays that work well with his skillset, but those plays will be limited in number and predictable for opposing defenses.

Dallas needs versatile, well rounded backs.

Im not high on him but I really don’t remember in his limited opportunities where he was actually in space to make someone miss

True. Then again, another part of the playbook is either added or enhanced.

He can't break tackles
Nah dog. He can and does. No, he's not as effective as it as Rico would be. But life is tradeoffs... and the tradeoff there is that Rico's not as able to break ankles as Deuce is.

can't move the pile
So if you want to argue "Don't put him in for 3rd and short," that's an amazing insight that I doubt any of us would shoot down.

But 3rd and 6? He's as good a receiving RB as we'll have on our roster this season, and probably is the best.
nothing but a gadget player...
Misconception. Watch the tape. Stop obsessing on his measurements.

Those aren't FCS LBs and DBs he's making grasp for air.

I'm so sick of hearing "they just need to use him right".
I agree. It's not about "using him right."

It's about putting him into a game with your real O-line, or something close to it.

We're likely going to see that happen under the RB-by-committee paradigm.
