the problem with that mentality is that its dismissing the fact, we were within one score in those games. people talking about prevent defense, without truly understanding how football is played, specially at the NFL level. I did a research of average scoring by quarter and dallas ranked in the middle and higher each quarter offensively and was top 5 in 4th.....if you are within 3 points with 3 minutes to go, 2nd half offense counts and can't be just DIMISSED because it doesn't fit the narrative of your argument.

our defense by comparison ranked at bottom of the league in each quarter and slightly better in 4th quarter. the problem is everyone expects the offense to score everytime they have the ball, and when your defense doesn't make any stops, then the team falls behind and people blame the offense for not keeping up...totally unreasonable..

you have your opinion of watson and I have mine. I just don't see him as an elite QB. I don't see him lifting his team and people around him. in fact when he lost the one weapon he had, the team and offense totally fell apart. you don't get to 4-12 that easily. like I said, Quincy carter and Dave campo managed 5 wins. and those teams had zero talent.

and I do realize how bad the OL was, and yet, Dak with similar OL produced, kept the team competitive....points in 4th quarter count the same as 1st quarter. they don't weigh scoring by quarter as much as some fans want to make it seem that way.

and in regards to your poll. there will be those who want watson. there will be those who don't. I can guess who will fall on which side. trust me, its very obvious. and that poll proves absolutely nothing.

Martin is a good guard. I love him. but if I had my choice, I wouldnt' extend him. I would get another guard and spend the money elsewhere. you don't go to the superbowl because you have the best dang guard in the league....

if people want to say he lost games last year and he was 1-3, 2-3 and lost games in 2019 and he was 8-8....then why is it wrong to say he went 13-3? oh, ok, almost forgot....all the wins are team wins. all the losses are Dak's fault...gee how could I forget that

no doubt you have your opinion and others have their own...I would possibly not extend Martin as well considering injuries are piling up, but as of right now he is by far our best option on the OL. I want to point out one major thing you are 100% forgetting, and you can thank me later for setting your mind straight. Do you know how the Chiefs and Mahomes got to the Super Bowl? Do you? Their OL was very strong this year, led my one certain individual? You know, Eric Fisher? The two time Pro Bowl LT? You do know he got hurt and missed the Super Bowl, right? You do know who won, and who lost the super bowl do you? 2020 they won, 2021 Eric Fisher missed this game and everybody who knows anything knew it would be a challenge because that LT guy was hurt...did you see how Mahomes struggled? We all know there was one major reason why, so please do not tell me one guy on the OL cannot have that much of an effect upon a QB.

I really can't prove my point further...

where you are mistaken is you think I don't value OL. that's where you are completely wrong. in fact I do, on the draft forum I have argued that I don't want any offensive players taken this year, and focus on defense, except for LT. if Slater or Sewell is available at that slot, then you take them and don't look bacl.....after the QB, the 2nd most important position on the offense is the LT, that's why teams will spend top 3 pick on taking their LT.....Fisher as you said is a LT, and he is a good one.....That's why we drafted Smith 9th over all, ahead of JJ Watt. to protect Romo's blind side and it was one of the best picks we ever had.....in terms of importance to the offense, guard ranks next to last right above FB, with FB being the least important position.

so you trying to justify Martin a LG as important Fisher the LT is comical at best....

I don't need to justify Zach Martin as being essential to this team, nobody has to. With Smith pretty much an injury concern year in year out, and with Travis gone, Martin had that much more of a role to play in 2021. Yet again you are missing my point: how many guards could play Guard, than be asked to move to RT, and do a damn good job at it? As if they have played their for years? Hell, His value to this team cannot be understated...just as the value of Fisher wasn't under estimated (position played)...let alone how did his replacements play when he was hurt? You say you like Martin, yet don't value him like every other football evaluater in the NFL DOES. Your take on players is the same as it is on the Watson/Dalk comparison. I get it, you like the under dog.

Dude, I can't keep going back and forth with you any longer...have your say, I had mine call it a night

If daks really wants 44 mil per tag and trade him and move on. Wouldnt even come close to giving him that next offseason. That's even if he's healthy and plays as a top 10 qb this season.

Sorry, let's agree to disagree. You are wrong to think I don't value Martin but until last year when.both tackles got hurt and center decided to retire, Martin only played guard. By the time we got more injuries (backup tackle getting injured) it was too late in the season and by then the whole thing is a mess and there is no saving it.

And like I said I highly. Already a LT. The whole freaking NFL dies. You cannot. Cannot. Cannot compare a LT to RG. That alone tells me your simplistic mind set. I never said LT wasn't important to a team, it's an argument you are trying to bring to the table and incorrectly compare two positions that no NFL exec would ever do.

I just think if we had a cheaper guard and spend 10M elsewhere in the team.it would be.more beneficial. Like I said no one knows who the guards were who aged in championship games in past three years. But you proved my point, people know the LT.....

then agree to disagree...and remember on a depleted OL if you decide to let a hall of famer go and do not sign somebody comparable...no matter who your QB is, they will fail as will the team on both sides of the ball

How often do we get to have a year like last year? If that happens often your season is lost anyway. If it was a no cap era, like when we had Allen, then by all means I would be in the tower screaming for Martin.

However last year hopefully was an Anamoly. There was never a plan to have Martin play RT or be the back up there. You put a couple of backup tackles and perhaps a swing tackle on your team....but we had way wasy way too many injuries. No amount of shuffling was going to save the season

and like I said its the cap era....where do u spend your money to get the biggest bang for the buck. Do u spend your money on a guard? Or spend more on a DT? Or CB? Or Safety?

So it's about pluses and minuses. Impact. If we have Martin we can't spend on other more impactful areas. Vs having Martin and impact of a guard on offense and not having impact player in another position.

Like I have been saying, I love martin. I respect him. He is perhaps the best guard in the league.

But do I want to spend 14M on a guard? Or do I get a good guard at 6M and have extra 8M to spend on a DT....what would be offensive drop off with a lesser guard vs. A True DT in the middle of the defense..when teams where gashing us for 300 yards rushing per game.

Like I said where is the best investment of your money.

yes dak and watson are very similar and sideways move to trade for Watson would be ignorant , however if i had choice all things being equal i feel like watson might get the edge for playing better on the run ie off schedule plays etc

now Wilson or rogers id trade our 10th and dak for any one of them today..not even a thought would be needed..

Jackson is an enigma for sure.

As for Dak and Watson The only year Dak has had Watson-like efficiency numbers was way back in 2016–which , as it turns out, was an anomaly..
Dak’s 2016 was more like the norm for Watson....with the 104 passer rating, etc.
And I think Watson has akways pldbehind a dicey line....which makes ,life much harder, as you know.

Lolwut. Watson had 440 rushing yards last year. He has never had more than 100 rushes in a season. Don't know where that take came from
