Stop trying to convince realists the defense is fine

The funniest part about "how poorly" and what not our defense played on Sunday was the sack/FF by Ellis on the last play.

It was the ONE and ONLY time we knew they were passing and we got to Kitna.

The entire game our defense was caught off balance by superior play calling from Martz. The mixture of runs and passes didn't allow the front line to rush upfield.

I wish everyone would notice this.

Oh, the record is fantastic, but this is all about a sixth Lombardi Trophy. Dallas is not a "we're just happy to get there" kind of town. Nor are its fans. And when we see things on the field that could potentially imperil the dream of a sixth championship, we're gonna take notice. Lord knows our opponents will.

whose D is able to stop our O?

When all else fails, pull out the "I have high expectations for the team" card.

Here's a clue for you, we could play a perfect game and still lose to Darth Belichick.

Well, New England held our offense to 20 points (17, if you consider we got three points from a 73-yd kickoff return). Your strategy is to win a wild shootout with NE or Indy? Good luck with that.

You don't?

True, but the fact that we got to the big game will be of little solace. We're Dallas, not Philly.

Tony Romo used to bullseye wamprats in his T16 back home. They're not much bigger than 2 meters. If we can ***** and bellyache about the defense enough, we might win a Superbowl. Or at least we'll be better prepared for it when we lose. Then we can parade around CZ saying we were right after all.

Realist here.

I"m here to warn you, sir, about reactionaries stirring the pot under the guises and the self proclaimed of "realists" . . .

This is just a warning.

Folks, 2007/8 is like Busch beer. It just doesn't get any better than this.

So tell me are you the guy who says to his son/daughter, why did you miss those two answers when they get 98/100? Just wondering

No he's the same guy like most of us who are asking the same questions mostly week after week for a freakin decade plus. Fans who love the Cowboys and aren't hysterical, chicken littles, poor fans, who cry constantly over nothing. The same fans who ask in calm matter of fact "tones" why can't the guys tackle consistently well not consistently or at least too frequently bad. Or ask why are we allowing teams with the worse run offense in the NFC (?NFL) run all over us and dominate us in TOP which is our gig. Or ask don't they even think about blitzing a team that has given up either the most or second most sacks in the entire league since they aren't getting to Kitna. Or why are we still playing Akin when he is consistently getting whipped and too often butt whipped at the point of attack. Of why are we giving large cushions on 3 and 12 allowing bland outs and curls to consistently give up first downs which of course leads to Romo not passing the ball because the other team still has the ball and is scoring instead of us.

ON and ON.

There is nothing wrong with most of us fans who love the Cowboys, have died the last decade plus, and now see a legitimate SB contender (notice the praise) with a few problems that can be addressed before the next season. Certainly it will be better served with new personnel and some new wrinkles but they can make some adjustments this year to fix some of this crap. Especially the piss poor tackling by most members of the team.

Don't tell reasonable people who are the same fans as you they can't see defensive problems that the rest of the football world sees as well. Then after telling them they are ridiculous, yada yada yada...expect them to take it well. It's ridicule some and me respond to. I don't care if you disagree with me. You have as much right to feel one way as I do another. But don't pee on my shoes and tell me it's my fault.

And to one smart fan, we will address your concerns with a DB, an outstanding MLB who can rush and fall into coverage, and we will address safety as well.

Right now we're 12-1 and surpassing most peoples realistic expectations the start of the year. And there are legitimate reasons for everyone doing well. And probably well enough for Dallas to approach records for Pro Bowl participants.

Fire away because I'm going to bed and won't be listening to you anti-chicken littles and you know who you are.

Uhh...the Patriots.

Isn't that why we're not 13-0?

It won't be any better if we play them a second time unless our D improves. What I love about this board is that wins are so blinding for people. If we had lost that game against Detroit, this thread would be 95% in agreement with the original poster (who was correct I might add). The D has strong potential of costing us a game and we can only hope that the game doesn't come in the playoffs when the stakes are obviously much higher. I'm not saying that it can't come together...that was the whole point of bringing Wade in to coach anyway. In fact, I don't think anyone here is saying that we have the worst D in the league or something. A lot of the "12-1" arguers are getting so defensive and throwing hissy fits just cause people are analyzing the problems. You can sure bet that Dallas coaches and players are talking about the same and more in depth issues with the D. That's why they've made obvious changes like limiting Roy's role during passing downs. If the coaches are talking about it and making changes, then there's no reason to start crying with ur "oh, we're 12-1 so be happy" nonsense. EVERYONE is happy that we're 12-1. It's awesome...I can wear my Romo jersey every day and send my Commanders fan friends NFC East Champions t-shirts. I love it. The problem still exists though...bottom line.

And like I said, if anyone has a problem with excepting that truth about how our D could easily crumble when the stakes get high and want to answer back with "you're whining...we're 12-1" nonsense...just remember where the one loss came. We definitely allowed NE to drop almost 50 on us. They exposed us, and we'd be fools to try and hide the obvious problem by running behind the "12-1" curtain for your counter-argument. What's funny is that these "12-1" guys are gonna be the first to complain about the D if we get knocked out of the playoffs...that's how it always works.

Uhhh....didn't we put up 27 points on the patsies? We left a few points off the board too.

....and if that's the case, then wouldn't that mean that our "pathetic defense" has "stopped every offense in the league sans the Giants in game one and the new england juggernauts themselves?

People on both sides of this argument are throwing hissy fits. All I know, is that one side is enjoying the ride more than the other.

It's not!...Is it better than last year? Probably. But we are an average defense that has looked good because our offense has been top notch. We are a team that is built to stop the run...that was how Parcells and most old school coaches think. Heck Troy Aikman even said the other day "I cringe when I hear coaches say we have to stop the run and run the football" But that is not true of the better teams in the NFL. Favre, Manning, and Brady will light you up if you cannot stop the pass. That should be where our concerns lie. Stop looking at how we perform against teams that will not be playing in January....those 3 teams should be our concern if we our THINKING Super Bowl.

It is ok to be happy with a win....but every fan who voices concern about the defense has a legitimate gripe if you ask me. Fans like me will not be the least bit surprised when if our season ends because of the defense....I guess the rest of you will complain AFTER it happens. But when we get in a single elimination tournament, there will not be any opportunities to "correct it next week"

We are big and slow for the most part on defense...that will need to be corrected this offseason. More speed in the secondary and at interior LBer is needed.

Solace? hardly sometimes you just play a better team. I watch and cheered on the Cowboys in 1975 and 1978 against the Steelers, I certainly didn't like the results but I wasn't shamed by them either. And the fact is the Cowboys still got into the game and played the Steelers much closer than the media and general public thought they would. Against any other team in the NFL the Cowboys would have most likely won those games, but as much as I hate to admit it those Steelers teams were the better team.

I won't get involved in this back and forth all I will say is this is the team we have, Its a good team which can get better.

I agree. I take great pride in all of our SB games wins or loses and should this team make it to the SB they would have gone beyond my expectations for this season.

Get off the feild on 3rd down a few more times and Dallas will be just fine.

You imply you're being censored, and I see no indication of that. When you express an opinion, you must expect to encounter disagreement, some more vehement than others.

And you shouldn't expect your opposition to soften their tone simply because you're in the minority.

It seems you're being a trifle overdramatic.

Right on the friggin' :money: with every word and thought.

So you are contending the presence of censorship on this board?

A poster can label you "chicken little" or "ingrate" without simultaneously suppressing your dissent and attempting to censor you.

Like you, they're simply expressing their opinion no matter how juvenile or immature it may seem.

I see no fix here. I only see your pervasive pessimism having a negative impact on people. You should probably expect that on a message board.
And again...

Well said Doomsday.........this team has far exceeded what I thought they could do.......12-1? I will take it any day of the week.

I also take great pride in the fact that some of the all time greatest games played have involved the Cowboys in many instances. Like any fan I want my team to win but being involved in these all time great games win or lose I take pride in.

Good Post.

I see nothing wrong with a little constructive criticism.

It could be worst, like booing your 11-0 team for going 3 and out a couple a times against the Eagles, like the pathetic New England fans did.
