This isn't accurate at all. Yards Per Attempt is how many passing yards you rack up her attempt. You may be thinking of adjusted ypa
You're correct. I was wrong hopefully the people trying to correct me will see the dozen post I wrote saying I was wrong

The thing is if the Cowboys don't win the SB, and the odds are that they won't we'll have to listen to the whining until Romo is banished from the organization– which is kind of sad really.

Yea ...... I love Romo ....... he is a really good QB ....... but I truly believe his body is done ....... and I do not want to see him crippled just to prove it to some fans that cannot let go.

What makes zero sense is your inconsistent logic. I am not making up anything, I'm applying your flawed logic. Don't get upset when I show how silly it is. You however are making things up.

What? You're advocating upgrading if you can do it but your logic is fantasy football nonsense since we have no real sample size the last two years. When he played last it was a disaster. That's straight logic that you are chasing your tail with. Your last two responses have been incoherent.

This definition and it's example fit what you are doing to a tee..."we lack sufficient downfield play at QB and Romo is best so let's play him ." Yet we are 12-2 and our QB played well

I've read and heard about DC's gameplanning exactly that. It's where the term bend but don't break comes from. Marinelli in particular talks about how he focuses on RZ performance, turnovers, 3rd down, and points.

Yeah, but that 2014 offense was the easiest offense in the league to gameplan for. Hell, half of CZ could have ran goalline formation and been successful.

McFadden actually did pretty okay considering he ran into the most stacked boxes in the entire NFL that season. The problem was, when the field got shorter, and having absolutely no talent at QB, we couldn't do a thing.

And in the playoffs, we'll do exactly what Tony did against GB, and hope our defense can actually make a stop this time. Which was, be efficient with the football, and lean on the run game. That's why he only had 19 attempts.

As far as team success, as long as we remain top of the league in RZ TD %, then we're going to win. If we can stop shooting ourselves in the foot constantly with penalties, specifically in the RZ, then we'll be successful.

I just care about points. And while Dak may not have the prettiest ball in the RZ, I feel like his feet make up for that big time. That's a huge weapon. Combined with how efficient he is between the 20's, and he's a big reason why this team is 12-2.

And that's what every team has tried to do, stack the box and make Dak beat them. If we didn't stack penalties on penalties and have every conversion/big play called back against Minn, Dak would have had a hell of a game. Look at the play by plays.

Does anyone think, with the view of our defense this year, that being careful with the football to not put pressure on the defense was actually NOT a priority?

Dak has had really, one bad game, this late in the season, when everyone is supposed to have the book on us. TB shut down everybody lately and just got dropped. If we really want to point a finger at a bad game, we can easily point to the Eagles game in 2014, Romo's MVP caliber season, where he got smoked. Or the Panthers game last year. And I know this wasn't you in particular, but people actually have said Dak had a bad game against Washington because he didn't have that many yards. Haha, that's so lame. Tony didn't have over 200 yards against GB, he relied on a gameplan that was working (similar to the one we use now), and is anyone going to say he had a bad game? No, because he didn't.

Can Dak improve? Well, yeah. That's the thing, there isn't one QB in the NFL, no matter how much we like them, who is perfect. Tony isn't perfect, Brees isn't perfect, Carr isn't perfect, Brady is the closest you'll get and he even has subpar games against great defenses.

He can certainly get better at reading coverage, keeping his downfield options open, and avoid pressure better. But, until then, being careful with the football is winning a lot of games against good teams. I'd rather settle for a FG then throw a pick because Tyron wasn't healthy and got beat, or Free decided to hold, or Mayle decided to do something stupid again and set us up for 1st and 20 in the RZ.

Until we consistently lose or underperform, I can't say that I don't agree that it's the best course of action. The alternatives are unknown and this style has gotten us to this point. I can see knocking him for not throwing as well in the RZ, and he can improve on that. But, he's also a big part of one of the best RZ scoring teams in the league. If we can cut down the penalties in the RZ his rating down there will improve.

Sturm totally misses the point. Apparently, Jerry Falwell didn't teach mathematics very well at Liberty University, his alma mater.

Yards Per Attempt can be very misleading.

If you throw passes for 8 yards on 20 consecutive passes, you have a tremendous YPA. But you are dink and dunk.

If you throw 20 passes for 30, 2, 3, 20, 0, 1, 50, 4, etc, and total 160 yards, then you have the same YPA. But you aren't dink and dunk.

Reason number 1,000 why I hate statistics.

The game film doesn't mislead and it backs up what Sturm is saying so I'm not sure if he's the one who missed the point of his own article.

Tom Brady didn't even make the list.

That debunks the article right there.

That's kind of where I'm at. I was on the Romo bandwagon 100% from 2006 through 2014. But the dude is most likely toast now. He's had, what, 4 major injuries in 4 seasons or something? He gets bumped in a preseason game and he's toast? In what world is a 36 year old QB with a long run of serious injuries the best bet for any NFL team?

Most guys aren't Brady. They're not going to have only 1 major injury and keep on trucking to 39+. They're going to get the crap beat out of them and fall off in like the 34-36 range, roughly. Anything is possible, and if Romo comes back and parties like it's 2014 then that's great, but the odds of that happening are just really bad.

Romo was never a dink and dunk QB and neither is Dak. Both of them will take what the defense gives them and if their guys can get open they'll make the throw. Romo's thrown a little more caution to the wind at times (and I think Dak has too to an extent like the hail mary throw to Dez that got picked off against the Giants,) but neither one of them are immediately checking down without any pressure. Dak goes through his reads and at times he's getting rushed and has to make the check down throw. I'll take a 6-7 yard check down to Witten on 3rd and 10 over trying to force a throw that isn't there and getting picked or incomplete at best. Have to play the odds, if the field is covered check down and play field position battle.

You have the definition, but still don't understand it.

Nobody has expressed dissatisfaction or annoyance about being 12-2.
Nobody has expressed dissatisfaction about Dak. People understand Dak is a rookie and he has exceeded expectations. Nobody dislikes him or thinks poorly of him.
What people have expressed dissatisfaction about is a situation that has a very good chance of ending the team's season short of their goal. A better chance than the alternative. It's about the better QB sitting on the bench. That is NOT the same as expressing dissatisfaction about Dak. There is a difference. If you don't understand that, then there is no getting through to you.

My logic has nothing to do with fantasy football. Logic is logic. I don't think you understand logic, but it is what it is. If you can't apply your logic consistently, then it is you who is dealing in fantasy nonsense.

I don't think you can use logic and assume Romo is the same quarterback now that he was 2014. He sure wasn't that guy even in the limited about of games he played in last year....

This team is 12-2 and its hard to argue that it would have a better record if Romo was here. Especially a broken and brittle Romo.

I don't know who's more delusional here. Romo himself or his fans.

The problem with using YPA to try to show that a QB isn't dinking and dunking is that YPA doesn't tell you how much of that 7.93 is air yards and how much is YAC.

Look at Air Yards per Attempt for the answer.
1 Winston 4.86
2 Ryan 4.84
3 Cousins 4.79
4 Mariota 4.71
5 Prescott 4.61

On Dak's average attempt of 7.93 yards, he gets 4.61 yards from air yards (5th in NFL) and 3.32 yards from YAC.
Quality posting as usual. There's really no reason for this thread to be 24 pages when this was posted on page 1.

What also helps YPA is completion percentage. Incompletions will ruin your YPA, and Dak's completing nearly 70% of his passes.

Romo was excellent in 2014. That team had a chance to go to the NFC Championsjip game. Romo in 2015, however, wasn't good.

Were we not 3-0 in the games Romo started and finished in 2015? The only loss in a game Romo started was the Thanksgiving game vs. the Panthers. Are we going to pretend if he'd stayed healthy all year we'd have had a losing record or something?

Excellent post. Tampa has an excellent defense. Russell Wilson scored 5 points against them and looked horrible whereas Dak looked like a Pro Bowler. And Dak admitted he got away from his usual game of taking what the defense gives him when he played against the Giants. A 3rd game against them would be interesting. It's hard to beat a team 3 times in the same year.

It may be hard, but it's done more often than not. Since 1970, the team with an opportunity to three-peat has gone 13-7.

Even any completion under 5 yards necessarily hurts his air yards per attempt.

He just doesn't have that many completions under 5 yards.
