He's gotten worse throwing it downfield.

He doesn't checkdown and he doesn't throw it down the field. It's all intermediate. He is not a good deep throw passer.

The gameplan that works against him is to flood those intermediate zones and pressure him with zone blitzes.

Good corners and safeties give him fits.

We're those errant downfield throws or were they on the money, but dropped? I've seen plenty of the latter by Dez, T-Will and my pet cat Butler.

I'm curious to see where your post is coming from.

You do realize is ypa.......yards per attempt which means how far the ball went before it was caught. Has nothing to do with how many yards total after the catch

No, that is not right. Yards per attempt is total yardage including YAC divided by the number of passage tips – both complete and incomplete. There is a separate statistic that measures how far the ball travels in the air before being caught. One of our posters hear calls it "air yards per attempt". I'm not sure what the official title is.

The game plan for Romo is simply to hit him once and knock him out for the remainder of the season. Each qb has their apparent weakness; Dak's are easily mitigated by the fact he is a rookie and still learning and getting better. Romo peaked and is ancient history.

Yet to date the only team to execute that game plan to perfection is the New York Giants, who just so happen to have been able to do it to a number of other QBs as well.

Aaron Rodgers completed 51 percent of his passes for 5.8 yards per attempt and tossed two interceptions against the Giants this season. His QB Rating was 65 (lowest of the season).

Their excellence in the secondary can make it tough on anyone.

Sturm totally misses the point. Apparently, Jerry Falwell didn't teach mathematics very well at Liberty University, his alma mater.

Yards Per Attempt can be very misleading.

If you throw passes for 8 yards on 20 consecutive passes, you have a tremendous YPA. But you are dink and dunk.

If you throw 20 passes for 30, 2, 3, 20, 0, 1, 50, 4, etc, and total 160 yards, then you have the same YPA. But you aren't dink and dunk.

Reason number 1,000 why I hate statistics.

relevant burn.

The problem with using YPA to try to show that a QB isn't dinking and dunking is that YPA doesn't tell you how much of that 7.93 is air yards and how much is YAC.

Look at Air Yards per Attempt for the answer.
1 Winston 4.86
2 Ryan 4.84
3 Cousins 4.79
4 Mariota 4.71
5 Prescott 4.61

On Dak's average attempt of 7.93 yards, he gets 4.61 yards from air yards (5th in NFL) and 3.32 yards from YAC.
I don't think this really proves anything because it doesn't determine who is throwing downfield and checking down vs. who is consistently throwing 8 yard passes.

This is amazing. Our team is 12-2 and we're all here trying to prove either that Dak can't throw downfield or that he's among the leaders of NFL history in YPA.

Who cares? This team has been kicking tail all year. I don't care how they do it, they are winning.

I trust the coaches know just how to cater to Dak's strengths and minimize his weaknesses. If something goes awry, they will make a change in game plan.

I don't really worry about errant throws down field. They are a lower percentage past to begin with for any quarterback. What worries me is just missing reads. How many times this season has he missed seeing a wide-open receiver? In some instances, it could have been a TD. I'm sure he will improve, both in downfield accuracy and in making those correct reads, as he gains experience. The key is going to be how much he improves.

Then do the math to support your position.

Someone has posted math...
