Surprise Cut... Who Do You Think Might Be?

Understand from the 1 or 2 analysts on a variety of Cowboy forums that Austin is looking better then Thompson in the return game. If either Battle or Coleman look pretty in TC/preseason game, Thompson could be in trouble unless he has learned to pick up the blitz and becomes more then a straight ahead rusher.

As for Hurd, he's having a good TC so far and at this point easily makes the team if the decision had to be made today. He could be Crayton's successor if Cowboys don't want to pony up the big contract to would satisfy him as a #2 (either TO or TG eventual successor).

Understand to date that Folk is doing slightly better then Gramatica both in kicking deep and FGs but of course it will depend on what happens in preseason games. Also do the Cowboys feel comfortable going with a rookie kicker -- I know NE did some years ago with Vinetari.

Joey Thomas is the CB who is having a pretty good TC so far so I don't think Aaron Glenn is threatened this year unless another young CB steps up. Nate Jones is in trouble with either Thomas, Ball, etc., show enough.

Flozell needs to show something at some point in camp to assure the Cowboys that he can still do this. I don't know how they can keep 5 tackles (especially if they plan on going with 2 kickers). Flozell is in the final year of a contract and he's not in the Cowboys future. If McQuinstan has a great camp and starts several preseason games at LT without incident, I don't know how you keep 1 more year of mediocre and hobbled Flo over him.

Davis was nothing more than a Parcells' favorite. He kept saying how good a ST player he was, but no one ever saw it on the field.

Must be a Sean Payton and Gary Gibbs favorite too, since they tried to sign him away as a restricted free agent to be their starting strong safety.

My exact reasoning in the Ellis - Glymph debate.

Maybe we could trade Flo in preseason.

nope just think he's a big liability especially on 3rd down

Yet he's an asset against the run...and we don't have another CB as good as he is.

Yeah, that'd be a smart move.

...but I sure would be surprised.

Almost every year there is at least one surprise cut made. If you had to take a stab at who it will be this year, who would you say it is going to be?

Since I started this mess I'll go first. Sam Hurd. Not a huge surprise given he's the 4th WR at the most. Between him and Aaron Glenn. My reasoning is that for either one of them there are people behind them with more upside and they might be at the end of theirs.

Big surprise will be Crayton

There is a bottleneck of young, talented receivers who will go after Crayton's spot

With reports coming in from training camp and having more than just pure luck guesswork to go on, I have to pick Aaron Glenn. Everyone says that he still has some zip in his step, but his step is always taking him to the sideline with a gimpy knee or sore back. Don't get me wrong, he is a great teamate and hardworker from everything that I have read. These same reports, though, also state that he seems to be pulling up from injuries. He is too old and cost too much money to not let a younger, healthier, faster, cheaper player on the field. Just my 2cents on the matter. :D

Oops, I started another thread on this subject, so mods go ahead and merge if you want. Anyways, here is my pick....

I agree and hope Quincy Butler and Joey Thomas can make a push because Reeves and Jones have had there chance to step up and I haven't seen much from either.

Don't forget about ball who is supposed to be a burner and is getting better everyday by having to follow TO all over the field. This is definately a good problem to have. :D

Kieth Davis, and Hoyte are tough guys, that you need on a team to win a super bowl they will make big blocks,or tackles in big games.

As for Burnett, I was just throwing a name out there. I don't really see him getting cut...but like I said, it would certainly be a surprise.

I agree with this. Burnett would be my pick for a 'surprise' cut.

I hope it's not Hurd or Austin. I feel that if we cut one of those two we may regret it in another year or so.
