Switching to 4-3

103.3 saying "the plan is to move in and out of the 4-3 defense."

Interesting that Parcells won't "take a chance" on stunting and blitzing, but will take a chance completely changing the scheme.

I guess Spears would be better at tackle as huge as he's gotten... He has to be quite a bit over 300 now. I just know he was good at end at LSU. If he could play inside, end would probably be easier for Hatcher.

And hey, did anyone notice that of the three starting LBs, Carpenter is one of them? :D

at this point, they must be looking at everything in the closet to see what they're missing, because this defense is abysmal if not worse.:thumbdo:

it's sort of like our inept OL became not-quite-so-horrible after Romo stepped in - we need to do something to inspire this defense. but if the switch is made and shows some improvement, is Bill to blame for scheming us poorly or to get credit for pulling it out of the dumps...?

i still say its caused more than anything by the overall youth and inexperience of the players. the loss of Ellis hurts us here, i think. but it may be that this is not the year we return to glory. we may have a little growing up to do first. but stranger things have happened...

Well, it makes sense if you're going to keep James in there. I would have put Carp at SLB, Akin at MLB, and Burnett at WLB.

To those that say we can't change to 4-3 why not? Belichik has flip-flopped between a 4-3 and a 3-4 many times.

I doubt we just go 4-3 from here on in, but I could see us playing it a lot in certain games and less than others. It makes it difficult teams to scheme you.

I was always surprised that we didn't show at least a little 4-3 once in a while to throw teams off.

Yep, I bet we move in and out of the 4-3 and 3-4 in the game.

Yeah, but he was a wasted pick.

Ware at MLB?

I know it would probably never happen but with his athleticism and strength he'd surpass the likes of Urlacher and Lewis IMO...

How does this help the fact our Safeties can't cover?

We ran the 4-3 the last time in the playoffs.....remember, when Steve Smith and Carolina exposed our secondary in the playoffs?

Always a party pooper in the bunch. :)

Why do people go back to the "safeties can't cover" meme. How many deep balls did the safeties give up against New Orleans or Philadelphia?

I just heard a report the Cowboys are switching to the 4-3 against the lions. Not sure if there was a thread already.

This would be the equivalent of hitting the panic button. Based on the current state of affairs on defense it might not be such a bad idea.

Wheather the change is successful or not he's at least addressing the problem. For that I give him credit.

At this point the team needs a boost of confidence. Who knows maybe the butt kicking they received from NO & Philly will inspire them to do their best to regain their manhood.

You know what's funny man. The same exact sentiment was conveyed leading up to the Philly game. It went a little something like this.

Who knows maybe the butt kicking they received from NO will inspire them to do their best to regain their manhood.

Now philly has been added to it. Who's next? Will next week's sentiment be:

Who knows maybe the butt kicking they received from NO, Philly, & Detroit will inspire them to do their best to regain their manhood.

I hope not. Just an observation.

I lost count.

We had the exact same problems when we ran the 4-3 and lost Woody........4-3. 3-4 who cares? Our Secondary problems will be exposed either way..........you all really think switching to the 4-3 will help much? We got toasted in 2003 in the playoffs running that scheme.

Really? Try counting on one hand, you won't get past that hand.

I saw us get toasted over the middle on deep plays all game long....I saw Safeties missing their assignments all game long....what games were you watching?

When any QB has all day to pass, any secondary will give up passing yds;)

Well, sounds like we still stay base 3-4, justt show them more 4-3 looks.

And maybe we can actually do that more effectively than we blitz, (or disguise them anyway.)

No

are you satisfied with our pass rush?

Bill is trying to fix the pass rush, weather it works or not we dont know yet, but he is trying something
