T.O.-Top 10 Receivers of all time?

TO to me is the Barry Sanders of Wide Outs.

That is not a bad thing and it means you are one of the best to ever play, but he is definitely not the guy I would want in crunch time.

Like someone said, his hands are not the greatest. Kind of important for a WR.

Going by "the ability to catch a football" NO!

Imagine if he could catch.....he would be #2 on the list.

That's not entirely fair to Owens. He's said many times that he can't throw throw the ball, and catch it, too.

I was listening to the the Ticket on my way home and Shannon Sharpe said T.O. is probably one of the best receiver of all time. I was thinking about it and I don't even think he makes my 10 ten list of all time.

Is he on your list?

I can think of 10 guys in the NFL better than TO in about 10 seconds

that said 3 of those who are better will be playing sunday in the superbowl

True.

However, he also played in a very "offense" friendly era of the NFL.

I believe there are more than 10 receivers throughout history that were better "players" than he was.

so did jerry rice in the west coast offense. So if you detract from his stats then you have to for anyone who played in this era.

more TD's than any receiver since 99, 2nd in TDs to rice...he is close to top 10.

I was talking more in terms of officiating and how the league started "promoting" scoring.

Juke, out of curiosity, what is your opinion on Sterling Sharpe?

I think the guy is very underrated and just never had a Quarterback until the end of his career.

I was listening to some national radio show recently when the fan was done locally for the day, and there was someone talking about romo.

They referenced Brett Favre as many do, but then said something that I had never heard before. Apparently Favre said he became a better player after sterling sharpes injury and was forced to retire. He went on to say that he had a hard time trying to get one guy the ball all the time and his play suffered for it.

Just thought I would share. I wish I could remember who was saying it, it was either a play by play guy or a writer....I just cant remember, I just found it interesting.

Yeah that is interesting.

I remember watching Sterling Sharpe play and the guy was an absolute beast.

What I don't remember is when Brett Favre came to Green Bay from Atlanta, how long did it take for Green Bay to become "his" team.

I know Tony Romo has the contract and is the Quarterback, but Terrell Owens is a huge star and I wonder if Terrell Owens needs to exit for the team to be truely Tony Romo's team.

Dunno.

Seriously? Ward is fun to watch. Tough little guy but he is BARELY top 10 right now, much less all time.

Wards biggest season is basically a typical T.O year

Not even a close matchup. T.O in his prime vs fitz is interesting to argue, but I feel that most people are "what have u done for me lately" and will forget how dominant t.o was in his prime.

back away from the drugs

Yes he's a top 10 WR of all time. In fact I'd say, statistically, he has to be considered in the top 5 of all time. But that's just statistically.

No doubt.

Comparing athletes from different eras is a great past time but no way to prove.

Every player mentioned was very, very good- that's all that is for sure in this debate.

Of course he is. Anyone who disagree is either (1) dumb, or (2) not being honest.

Well, let's see...off the top of my head...

He's not better than Jerry Rice, Raymomd Berry, Paul Warfield, Randy Moss, Lance Alworth, Marvin Harrison, Michael Irvin, Steve Largent, Charlie Taylor...

Then there's Don Hutson, Cris Carter, Art Monk, Tim Brown...Who are close to top ten...

So...uh, maybe. :)

And PLEEEEEEEEASE folks, when ya start debating this, REMEMBER the era some of these guys played in...Don Hutson, Paul Warfield are not going to have great numbers....but remember, the game was VERY different back then.

Good list. But you forgot Johnnie Jefferson, who had the best hands and was the most acrobatic receiver to put on a NFL uniform.
