My man...

If waldo feels that way, then I'll ask them to delete it. I would offer to do it, but I've missed the time window for that.

It seems much less harsh to me than earlier when somebody "called out" Fuzzy about his game analysis thread.

Once I got into writing the thread, I just want to give waldo all of my input in one place so that I could just move on from the back and forth with him in 3 or 4 different threads.

I did not use words like idiot or stupid which were getting thrown around in the 22+ page thread.

Let me know if you think I'm "calling you out" as the above poster claims. That's not my intention. I wanted to summarize my take and give you some input on why people are resistant to consider your idea. If you don't listen to them, they won't listen to you. I also wanted to tie it in with issues that were not about the 3-4.

FYI - There was a lot of hate for Zimmer when he was here. Probably more than for Marinelli now. People hated Zimmer's bend-but-don't-break style.

Zimmer's defense is not that different than Marinelli's current defense. Marinelli does not use the Tampa-2 anymore. Both defenses are very similar to Jimmy's defenses that won Super Bowls in the Nineties.

I agree that it would be good to spice up the current defense, but there are many many ways to do that without changing the scheme. It all comes down to where you want to be on the scale from bend-but-don't-break to max bitzing. You can be conservative or high risk regardless of the base alignment.

You know Walker,ol' Waldo WAS pretty adamant In stating: "if the x,y,z, doesn't pan out" ,,,at least half dozen times within the first two pages of that thread!
Two pages was enough reading for me to pursue other threads of speculation, insights and observations,,, I even mentioned it out loud somewhere that I found it kinda hard to fathom Wally's 3-4 thread broke over two pages,,, that old saying "that dog don't hunt" comes to mind and you leave it(and that dog) behind.

Very good points... Hence why this thread is still here.

The biggest fallacy is that Taco is the key to our season..... his development is important but not critical to our success this year..... I can see us drafting a DE early for the next 5 years... he is just another weapon

We have DLaw, Mayowa, Tapper, TCrawford, DMoore, D Irving to help mentor him and take the pressure off(figuratively speaking)

Either way we are not switching back to a 3-4...... SLee is the QB of our D is and perfectly protected in this 4-3....... we have no NT and don't know how to get one

It's going to be difficult to pick the active DEs this year, especially once the suspensions are over.

They could end up with 7 DEs on the 53 and they normally only have 4 active:
Taco
Tapper
Mayowa
DLaw
Crawford
Irving
Moore

i know.
it does get to the point of no one listening to each other.
when i was doing all that work for the cap calculations etc, i was writing for other zoners as well as press that read.
some thinks it is stupid, but my sincere belief is that press reads this stuff.

zimmer's d is not that different from the 3-4 except i have want the RDE freed up from the LT.
but if you move the RDE, then you are in a 3-4.
i love the double a-gap blitzes as an important attack option but that is hardly new.
i remember landry doing that with michael downs and one other db decades ago.
i dont think the multiple LB blitz threats forcing the O to react - so that is not new either...
how does one reconcile zimmer doing bend but dont break but his aggressive blitz packages like the double-a formation.
i really dont remember what zimmer did here, but i dont recall it being that aggressive...

It's just my preferred style to tell you what I think as politely as possible all in one place.

I'm not a fan of just following you around ripping you with one-line derogatory comments.

i am cool with. i have driven others to tears, but they often pm me.
polite suggestion.

i have some that rip me with one-line comments but they get ignored since not worth the trouble.

Paraphrase. You like the 3-4 and want to change

I get you like the 3-4 and when we had a 3-4 and most of the pieces to run it the defense was marginally better. DWare as much as many people here thinks he walks on water tended to disappear come December for some reason. This team has a bunch of pieces that could fit a 3-4 or the 4-3 the problem is the pieces fit a 4-3 better maybe not a good 4-3 defense but a 4-3. Lee won't hold up playing ILB in the 4-3 he would walk to go to a 4-3 team so another position to fill, Can Smith/Hitchens/Smith play any of the other LB positions, maybe smith so we still need 3 linebackers. What 3 guys do we have to play the space eater roles of 3 down lineman, Collins maybe but it takes away what he does best, TCraw maybe since he really does not need pass rush moves to be 3-4 DE and he excels at playing the run maybe. Who do we have to play the space eater int he middle of the DL I guess we draft. Now lets look at the 4-3 DE we have can any of them be DWare or close to him hell I do not think any of them could be Anthony Spencer. You would have too many holes to fill and too many guys you would need to release or trade
