unless the video actually exists and it's as bad as people think it might be, dez isn't taking anything less than 45m guarntee and 14m a yr and imo that would be dez taking a discount in his eyes. if we pay him that it will be a dumb move.

I thought they had to the 2nd of March. Once that comes, they have until the 15th of July to offer a long term contract. Am I misunderstanding something?

They have sunday to place the tag on Dez. But i dont think either side wants to go that route. I think a deal will get done sometime today or tomorrow.

March 8-11: Clubs are permitted to contact, and enter into contract negotiations with, the certified agents of players who will become unrestricted free agents upon the expiration of their 2013 player contracts at 4 p.m. ET on March 11. However, a contract cannot be executed with a new club until 4 p.m. ET on March 11.

March 11: New league year, free agency begins

March 11: Before 4 p.m. ET, clubs must exercise options for 2014 on all players who have option clauses in their 2013 contracts.

March 11: Before 4 p.m. ET, clubs must submit qualifying offers to their restricted free agents with expiring contracts.

March 11: Before 4 p.m. ET, clubs must submit a minimum salary tender to retain exclusive negotiating rights to their players with expiring 2013 contracts and who have fewer than three accrued Seasons of free agency credit.

March 11: All clubs must be under the 2014 salary cap before 4 p.m. ET.

Basically on March 11th a team can offically sign any FA it has negotiated with between March 8th-11th at 4pm ET on the 11th. You dont want The large cap hold of the franchise tag limiting you on March 11th but before that it doesn't have much affect.

You're not, you're correct.

Placing the tag buys them some time, but it ties up the entire 12.7m of cap space immediately.

If they are eventually going to agree to a long-term deal it behooves both sides to work out a deal before FA gets going too far.

I've been screaming 'pay the man' for so long I've lost my voice now.

But pay the man how much? 16M per year with 40M guaranteed? It'a all well and good to demand he be brought back, but if the demands are outrageous, you need to keep negotiating.

It's slightly new since previous reports had been that the Cowboys and Dez's agent have not spoken much lately. Now they have.

Not really as the story has one line of speculation from an unknown source on the inside ... Has anyone confirmed they are even talking? I mean we all would love it, expect it and hope they are but as recently as a couple days ago one of the jonses was quoted as to they haven't spoken with anyone on Dez's team in quite a while ? I hope they are I truly do .. But this story didn't really shed any light on stuff we all already know

Pay the man... but pay him the least amount you can. Franchise tag or the threat of it gives the team some leverage. Rumor has it that Dallas nearly had a contract worked out with Dez paying him 12 million a year. He switched representation and is now using that 12 million as the start point of negotiations.

It was 114 over 10 yrs which is 11.4 and 20m guarntee. That's not even close to what dez will accept. Him and his agent will be asking for at least cj money so they have a ways to go.

If I'm the Cowboys, I'm not giving him CJ money. I give him an offer with way less and then franchise him if he doesn't accept it. I do the same thing next year as well. It appears that is what we are doing. Gone are the days where we weren't fiscally responsible and over payed for players.

I bet it ends up closer to the Dallas offer than CJohnson type money. That is if it gets done at all. I could see two years of the Franchise tag and then parting ways.

I think 30 guaranteed will do it

Your underestimating dez lol I see a franchise for 2 yrs but not being closer to Dallas offer. Well I guess it would depend on how close you call close lol I can see it being under 14m a yr and 45 guarntee. To meet half way it would cost 13.25m a yr and 34m guarntee.

I agree. Started to add that in my post. I don't think they want to use it either.
I wonder if the hold up is more on the guaranteed money part, and not so much the length or terms of total amount.
Just my thoughts though.

It's always pretty much about the guaranteed money because that's what matters most to the player and his agent.
