That is not true. His salary next year isn’t guaranteed which is why some are speculating this could be his last year. Personally I think that unless his play drops off, he will likely be here for at least this year and next.
I thought he hadntotal of 7 years of guaranteed contract over all as he got redone...so maybe this is the 7th year. Yeah I am.dine with 6 sacks lawrence

Lawrence is affordable, is a leader, is a quality run stuffer, and a tone setter. If you just look at sacks as a true measure of a defensive end's worth than you have a lot to learn about football with all due respect. Tank is not the player he once was but he is one of the better all around left ends in the NFL today.

The question IMO is how much pass rush juice Tank has left in his legs.

He is a ridiculous run defender, and will continue to be a ridiculous run defender, because he wins with flawless technique and galaxy-brain football IQ that won't fade with age. But if he loses the explosiveness to get around tackles, then he becomes a rotational player at best.

When your dead cap is higher than your cap hit, does it matter?

Coog, the first thing I think needs to be looked at is effectiveness. Not just the stats, but actual game film to see how he is impacting the other team's O and helping our D. If we can get another player that costs significantly less with the same effectiveness, then it becomes time to look at moving on. I don't know all the salary implications regarding this.
This will be his last yr if he doesn't take a big paycut next yr. Will be exactly like the Elliot situation. And he'll end up being a June cut.

Yes, Absolutely It does. You pay the dead money either way. That doesn‘t mean you also have to pay the salary and keep the player by throwing good money after bad - not that I’m suggesting cutting Tank, just answering your question. .

My point was, Dallas paying 20 is guaranteed. What difference does it make if it's to the player, or to the dead cap? That's all I was saying.

But at the prices he was paid, it's pass rush you want first. It's easy to find run defenders at DE... few years later his salary is not too bad, but still 6 sacks is not enoughnproduction from a DE who at one point was top 5 paid

Not sure I agree... Zeke's play had obviously diminished, and his backup was playing better than him, not sure we've seen that from Tank or his backups yet

The six sacks aren't a true measure of his pass rush skills. He had nearly 50 pressures last year if I remember the stats correctly and those can be just as disruptive as a sack. Right now Tank reminds me a lot of Tony Tolbert back in the '90's. Never a big sack guy, just someone who had a well-rounded game and did everything well.

Probably his last year here. Time to move on

You don't think Lawrence would've gotten the same ultimatum if he had 2024 cap number this yr?

Say this yr tanks caphit is 20mil that it is next yr, and you can cut him as a June cut and save 10mil. Or they go to him about a paycut.

The only reason they didn't do it this yr is because they would literally lose 19mil cap by cutting him. Or 9.5 if a June.

Dallas seems to going a new direction on contract talks and new contracts. Dlaws don't fit the model anymore. With new deals for dak, Lamb and Diggs coming, guys like Lawrence, tyron, Pollard are most likely gone after this yr.

I suspect they draft a guy to help keep Micah and Tank fresh.. That's my thinking.
You can’t have too many. I expect Sam Williams to get lots more snaps this year. The kid made an impact when he was in there
Also Dlaw is getting up there so I love have a guy in the waiting.

They just restructured him again, he is here at least for this year and next. I can't imagine how bad our run d would be without him.

Hot Boyz = 0 NFC Championship games.
Along with his current and former QB, current OLine teammates greats at RG and LT, former franchise greats at TE and WR whom he played with.

Been a cowboys player for years, at what point do we part ways with him. With the big deals that need to get signed, and the way Quinn can make something out of nothing with a DL guy, I can see him being gone eventually.

NOT THAT I WANT HIM GONE, but when you think of contracts coming up Diggs, Lamb, Micah down the road, can we afford to have him here also???

Please give your thoughts, bash me not the others on this post this is NOT meant to be a Lawrence hate thread, just asking a question!
Assuming his performance stays pretty much where it is, after his contract expires. His dead cap is prohibitive until 2025, at which time his salary is well worth it....
