He started as a freshman and that's the only loss in his career(29-1) Plus he has won a national championship. But let's just concentrate on the one loss.
If there is a season, Clemson should be in the title hunt again.
Last poll I saw Clemson was a near-unanimous pick to win it all again.
But here's the rub - no team gets that kind of ranking due solely to having a great quarterback. Their team is loaded with top talent everywhere. Does anybody expect Joe Burrow to throw for 64 tds and over 6,000 yards (extrapolating his 15 game stats his last year at LSU)? No, though the record isn't that far off, not saying he couldn't, just doubtful.
We saw Lineart, et al just tear up a college football season, only to fail miserably in the NFL. There's a risk that he's riding a massively talented team to the gaudy record (remember all here who continually brought up Kellen Moore's 50-3 record as evidence he should be the Cowboys' starter? How'd that turn out?).
Of course teams have to make evaluations of a player other than their record in college, and there are things that you can see that indicate probable success in the NFL.
Just saying going all in, getting rid of good to very good players and depending on your no. 1 pick quarterback to get you SB wins comes with big risks....
