Taylor Decker reporting his eligibility to the refs

Here is what I saw; 68 talking to the ref, likely reporting as eligible. 70 runs over late, does not appear to get the attention of the ref but seems satisfied. Play ends with 68 catching the td (not 70, who may not have reported). So what went wrong?

Second, I assume the refs have to tell the defense that someone reported as eligible? How else would they know?
Another explanation I seen was that the ref was looking at 70 running to him to report, and he did not see 68 as he focused on 70. Also as mention, another OL was there in the way of the ref and 68.
The ref went to the defense and told them 70 was reporting as eligible, so they focused on him and not 68. Who was lined up in an illegal formation anyway.

The Lions didn't get cheated. There was a reason why 68 was so wide open. There is no conspiracy. The refs did their job. If 68 was reporting, why did it seem like the ref didn't hear him and he obviously didn't. They heard #70 from a far reporting, and he was further than #68. Why did the ref heard #70 and not #68?

People will say Detroit got screwed. But to me they were the ones that screwed themselves. They knew that this was a gadget play which they needed to communicate clearly to the refs and to the defense. They obviously didn't. Then go out of their way to say they got screwed is nothing more than simply whining.
He was standing in front of the ref.

Then the ref can’t see. Because he’s right in front of him.

A big dude with his numbers on his jersey.

Yeah, the ref probably screwed that up. But keep in mind had the ref told the defense 68 reported instead of 70, he may not have been that open on the pass. Why would you cover someone you don't think is eligible?

And 3 OL in front of him, he heard 70 say he is reporting, and probably not 68. We have no idea what really happened.

But yet some Dallas fans are pissed something finally went our way. Even when it was the correct call.

That's great. Except there was no error
that’s debatable but regardless the point remains and holds true….cowboys fans cry every week about “bias” or rigged games but so do other fan bases because the refs screw up all the time. Nature of the beast

No they did not get screwed.
League apology letter later in the week will say otherwise..Dan Campbell told the officials in pregame this is something we might do in the game, so the officials knew prior that this could happen....refs announced the wrong number..Detroit got screwed!

Correct, the refs screwed up that call, it was their mistake, not Detroit.

Explain the illegal formation then?

Or are you just another fan that is not happy we won?

Goff was 30 feet away and Campbell was 200 feet away.. Neither of them could have heard a damn thing 68 said to the refs..
They do know what was practiced & planned all week though. What about Decker himself? Maybe if the ref had bothered looking at him standing 3 ft away rather than 70 coming across the field he might have gotten the right number.

Hey everyone. Lion fan here. Wonderful game last night. That was the most exciting 7-3 first half I can remember, but probably because my team was in it.

So the play. First, it was only illegal formation because the refs screwed up the eligible report. If the refs correctly report 68 eligible instead of 70 then it is not illegal formation.

The botched call robbed us of a truly exciting ending to that game. Maybe Dallas defends the play and it doesn't execute. Maybe Dallas defends the play and Goff is forced to pull off a miracle. Maybe the play executes and Dallas goes downfield in 23 seconds and your otherworldly kicker bombs a 71 yards to set a game ending kicking record for the third time in Lions history.

Thing is, we will never know.

With any luck, we face each other again in the playoffs. After last night, the next game could be epic.

If you’re looking for fair and equitable officiating, you’re watching the wrong game.
That is sorta my point. None of us should be paying for a product, gambling on an outcome, or otherwise wasting any time on a "game" that can be so easily manipulated by incompetence or intent via the refs. In this particular case, the whole sequence is blatantly "suspicious" and the league knows the sheep will just accept it and keep the money flowing.

the call was for ineligible receiver ....I'm happy Dallas won but at least I'm fair when watching NFL games, not a blind homer complaining about the calls Dallas isn't getting all game every game....a blatent bad call is a bad call, that was a blatent bad call by the refs that cost Detriot the game, refs screwed up, they announced the wrong number being elligible...the flag by the way wasn't throw until well after the play was over..

Why else would he have gone over to the ref?!?!?

Wish him happy new year?!
So tell us why the 3rd guy is approaching the ref?

Is he reporting or wishing him a happy new year?
