If the refs didn't screw up the tripping call on Hendershot the game ends with the Cowboys kneeling inside the Lions 15 yard line.
Not many seem to get this. So Cowboys fans can still make the case of the Refs inept officiating hurting the Cowboys in this game.

Video clearly shows brad allen pointing to 70 like he thought 70 was reporting. If 70 was not reporting why would he head to the refs.
The Lions tried to confuse the Cowboys by disguising who would be eligible…but not sure why because Skipper ended up lining up at OG which would never be eligible. The Lions made it more difficult than it should have been, but still not sure there’s a valid excuse for an NFL referee to be “confused” in that situation and get the call wrong

They went over this just now on NFLN. and as was explained last night as well.
70 comes running to the ref, brushing his jersey, which is the sign for ... hey I am eligible....which is accepted by the refs.
68 and 58 were just standing there, they did not brush their jerseys.

The refs seen 70 signaling. We have no ida what the other 2 OL did or said at that point. It was like the ref did not see them. Because they made no signal and it wasn't like they were in the refs ear for them to hear them either.

I think Detroit tried to pull a fast one. As the mediots said Detroit did this same thing 2 years ago. And the the coaches usually tell the refs before hand, hey we are going to use or try this trick type play to confuse the defense.
So even if the refs were aware of this, Detroit still screwed it up.

You can argue that the Lions tried to confuse the Cowboys by sending 3 lineman to the Ref and it backfired by also confusing the Ref…but that wasn’t an illegal formation

One thing I wonder about illegal formation and a player reporting is since 68 lined up at LT for the play to initially begin. Then 58 motioned onto the line. Would 58’s motion put 68 at the de facto TE position or would he still have been at the LT position because he was the one that never motioned? A player reporting eligible must line up at a skill position to remain eligible. They cannot line up at LT through RT. I would think a guy lining up at LT to start the play and never motioning would always remain at LT no matter how the line changes. The guy who motions in directly into the line on the opposite side would still be the TE in this formation.

I think in the end the Lions tried to be sneaky about it all and couldn’t get it past everyone in the end.

Decker is not left wide open if he was reported as the eligible guy to us.

Rewatch the play. You can see Damone Clark point at #70 pre snap (The guy that was reported eligible instead of Decker). Obviously Clark was letting everyone know to not forget that #70 is eligible.

Don't let the media fool you into thinking this was a money play that Decker was always going to be wide open on. The ONLY reason Decker was wide open is because the refs didn't report him as eligible therefore we paid him no attention.

So you don’t think #68, who said he reported as eligible here, actually did?

There is “LT spot”…he was lined on the LOS like a TE would without being covered by the outside WR. As long as he reported eligible (sure seems he did) and the right side of the line was lined up correctly (it was) he can go out for a pass.

So when Dekker (68) stood in front of the camera post game and said he verbally communicated to the ref “I’m reporting” he was lying? Find it hard to believe the main characters in this play of confusion are liars. Regardless, game over and on to the next.

It looks like both guys are rubbing their number which apparently is the signal for “eligible”. Then it comes down to who the ref acknowledges as eligible. The ref announced before the Lions broke the huddle who was eligible over the speaker.

Honestly I think the Lions tried to be sneaky and create confusion. Sent 2-3 guys to declare “eligible” by having 58 (who lined up initially in the slot), 70 (who initially lines up up on the end of the line) and 68 (who initially lines up on the opposite end) all approach the ref. 70 and 68 both are rubbing their numbers or it at least appears that way. I think the Lions thought then motioning 58 onto the end of the line would make 70 ineligible making only 68 eligible and satisfying the only 5 eligible players rule. The problem is the ref only acknowledged and announced 70 as eligible. From that point it’s Lions job to correct the ref. They did not. It’s illegal touching.

Lions should never have had 1st and goal with 27 seconds left if McCarthy just ran the ball instead of throwing at the other end.

That was BONKERS. If that happened to Dallas this board would be a NUCLEAR MELTDOWN.

I don’t know what happened any more than anyone else watching, but he CLEARLY said something to the ref.

Glad we gutted out a win versus a top team. Dak played super, CD was BANANAS, and fortunately Dan Campbell is a bigger idiot than MM.
Do you REALLY think this place would be a nuclear meltdown if that happened to us?

Don't you think these unbiased fellows in here would be posting the same logical arguments they are right now, to prove the refs were correct in nullifying our 2 point play and costing us the game?

I think they would!

:D :D :D :D :D

LMAO OK I GIVE UP...OF COURSE UR RIGHT.....NUCLEAR MELTDOWN SO BAD a blade of grass nor a beetle would survive here for 10,000 years!!!!! WASTELAND....LOL

It looks like #58 got in the way as #68 is trying to report. #70 clearly was reporting even though it is said he did not have to. ‍Not sure why all 3 came if only one was reporting.
It was to create confusion. In the end the ref declared 70 eligible. This was before the Lions ever broke the huddle and still had a full 25 seconds left on play clock. At that point it’s on the Lions who need to correct the ref or change the play.
