Hey, to the degree that fans take the history of the Cowboys personally, that is the degree to which Owens actions offended them. People who are, I daresay, fanatical about what the star represents. Those people get bent out of shape when someone disrespects it directly, not indirectly through their personal flaws and off the field troubles. These fanatics fly off the handle.

And I certainly did fly off the handle, practically everyone in this chatroom knows that.
As I understand it, you did more than fly off the handle. I can relate. Here's a short story...

I once called myself the biggest Philadelphia 76er fan in the world, starting in 1976 when I fell in love with the team. Screaming and hollering were the norm for me while watching their games. And I hated the Celtics and Lakers with a passion.

Then, one day, Howard Katz, the team's owner at the time, gave Charles Barkley the boot. I felt betrayed. When he packed his bags for Phoenix, I quit the Sixers and formally became a player only fan of Barkley until his retirement. Nowadays, I barely watch a quarter of the number of NBA games I once watched in my late teens and early twenties.

But enough of that nonsense. This is my point. Whenever anyone asks me which NBA team is my favorite, I tell them, "I don't have a favorite team and never did." Why? Because I quit the Sixers.

In my opinion, true fans do not quit the teams they follow. True fans do not even threatened to quit the teams they follow. Being a sports fanatic is all or nothing in my book.

So, my question is this: "If you ever stated that Owens' addition to the Cowboys would prompt you to say that you couldn't follow them, were you ever REALLY a fan of the team?"

Again, being a sports fanatic is all or nothing in my book. Even Terrell Owens hasn't scratched the surface of my devotion for this franchise. Not a scratch. In fact, I'm willing to say that he has only strengthen my love for this team. Only true love could help me endure these stomach ulcers I've had for the past year. oy. :(

A sports fanatic, by definition has crossed the line of reason, into a whole new realm of assigning more importance to a team or group of players than is healthy. A fanatic is what I am, and Owens addition crossed the line that my fanatical world said he never should have crossed. It doesn't have to make sense to anyone else. That's what being a fanatic is all about.

Did you like Deion? How about Haley? What about Keyshawn?

They are not exactely Dallas Cowboys, you know? Owens disrespected the :star: at one time...however, he has since changed. What is so hard about that?

Grow up and get over it...sheessh...I hope you have never done ANYTHING that you will ever regret.

By the way? Why are you here? I mean, Owens is on the Cowboy team?

I saw this thread three days ago and didn't open it b/c of what I thoght of the qestion. T.O. is more of a cowboy than any person on this board. Is he a cowboy? It's a simple answer...yes. He is or nmber one reciever last time I checked. I'm not sre how mch more of a cowboy yo can be.
T.O. gets a horrible rap in this leage. One of my closest friends is Bob
Sanders. If I have learned anything from hanging ot with him is that NFL players are totally different than how they are portrayed in the media. I read this board all the time yall act like yo know players personallities bt how yo see them in the media does not in anyway show how they really are. NOT IN ANY WAY. I cold give example bt I don't want to call anybody ot. bt T.O. is as mch a cowboy as manning is a colt.

Oh...and my u btton doesn't work.

I'm a fanatic, it's not going to make sense to you... And by the way, Owens has never apologized for the incident. Jerry said he could sleep on the star. In my fanatical world, both are wrong.

You're not suggesting that I'm the only one in the chatroom who has had a conflict about the Dallas Cowboys with my wife? Are you serious?

:lmao::lmao:

We've moved past that conflict, it's more of a joke between us now.

The bottom line is that no one man is bigger than this team... If you could stick it out when Landry was fired (a much more egregious act then anything Owens ever did), then I think you can stick it out now. If you could stay a Cowboys fan when Irvin was being arrested for coke and hookers, Lett was being suspended for drugs year in and year out, and Switzer was packing at the airport(much more egregious acts then anything Owens ever did), then I think you can stick it out now.

But since you can’t you are just a hypocrite and an idiot.

If the conflict constitutes threatening their marriage i would wager none other than you. You said you had to quit being a Cowboys fan because TO being on the team was straining your relationship with your wife. Thats a far cry from being snippy a time or two.

Now after the 1994 NFC Championship game, I was not a very happy person for the rest of that day but somehow i was able to emotionally seperate that and how i dealt with people.

It never threatened my marriage! I certainly wouldn't let something like this ruin what's really important. When it had an effect, I resolved it right away. There's just no way I would allow it.

Resolved right away or not, T.O., or any player for that matter...hell, just the game of football itself should not even be any reason AT ALL for having a conflict with your wife. Fanatic or not...that is just downright dumb!

The fans care much more about this mythical symbol than the players or even organization do.

exactly

Jerry Jones paid for that star, and he got over it, it's about time the fans do too

TO is a Cowboy.

Real or Not? I guess that is up to the users view about what they consider a real cowboy or not. Some don't like players that are hired guns for a couple of seasons some do.

I wish he was not a Cowboy but that is just my opinion. I can not rag on him fore just being here a few seasons as I loved Glover, Haley and others that were not original cowboys but helped our team.

I just don't care for TO. I did not like him before he came here and I doubt if I will ever like him. Difference IMO is that unlike others that ripped him to shreds before he was a cowboy, esp when he was an Eagle, are now some of the same ones that are all ga ga over him now. Sorry the guy is a jerk so from that perspective I don't like him.

He makes plays I will be happy about him as a member of the team.

So real or not...the answer IMO is yes even if I don't like him.

Mr. Paint,

This would normally be against my nature, but I used to tear the guy a new one when he played for the Eagles. I even took it upon myself to go to his website (with his goofball moderators) and showed a little bit of my concern for his actions.

I normally don't care too much if a player has a flamboyant attitude or not as long as they get it done and aren't a problem off the field.

But here is my main problem with T.O.. he doesn't take the concept of team seriously at all. I was at training camp last summer, and all I could notice was how special T.O. thought he was.. and how he didn't think he had to be a part of the team.

Basically, he was wondering away from the team being a distraction; pushing the limits and just being a clown. He seems more concerned with this aspect of fame than he does being a player.

That's my problem with T.O..
