This is why you wont do anything to a large degree with the Cowboys Jerry Jones, because your the general manager, you don't let the head coach choose their own coaches but you do. Got report supposedly that you Jerry Jones axed Norv Turner coming into Dallas, while Jason Garrett wanted Norv, but you axed the deal Jerry, Ed Werder supposedly just said so in a report, now its on you Jerry Jones.

Why all the Jerry Jones hate? First, Jerry Jones made the right call. Second, it is Jerry's money Garrett is playing with and Jerry has every right to say no unless Garrett is willing to take a pay cut and use the money on Norv. Ain't happening, right?

And blinded by your hate for Jerry Jones, you miss a bigger point. How would you feel if you were OC Callahan and you heard the rumor Garrett wanted Norv as OC? Do you think Garrett acted like a man and discussed this first with Callahan? Or, more likely, Garrett was sneaking around his OC and willing to throw him under the bus at the first opportunity? Garrett seems more like a snake to me than someone you can trust.

If I were GM and Garrett came to me and said he wanted Norv as OC, I would say sure, but not as OC, how about as HC. I'd replace this moronic clown Garrett with Norv in a heartbeat.

3 straight years of .500 football and they enter 2014 millions over the cap. This team is going to be worse, likely much worse in 2014 with an aging qb coming off 2 back surgeries and the cap problems.

Even a knob like Jethro realizes that. Why waste money? He'll take the bullet in '14, clear the coaches out and start new in 2015. Although, I caution anybody that thinks Jerry is capable of finding a competent coach and putting together a tough, quality team, to check themselves. That ain't happening.

Didnt Parcells pick his coaches?

Jimmy and Parcells. The only two who did. Think this has been discussed before, remember? Jerry finally relented and gave considerable control to Parcells after the 5-11 Campo years because he was desperate to get the team turned around and gain support for the new stadium.

But yeah, Switzer, Gailey, Campo, Wade and Garrett were/are all puppets with virtually no real power of a HC.

I can't believe some of you believe such nonsense.... Jason Garrett never wanted to relinquish his play-calling duties and Norv wouldn't come here when he got rejected as HC for this clown in reality. Jason Garrett was given the OC reigns and Wade was suppose to coach the defense until Jerry believed Jason was ready.

Jerry told Wade to cut the learning process for Brian Stewart and call the defense. He hired Jason Garrett to do the job as OC and then as HC. Providing him Callahan was to save Jason, because of the fondness he has for him and it's his pet project. If Garrett wants Norv now, it's because he knows he's this close to getting his walking papers.

Either way, things are looking good for Jason Garrett getting bounced. Hopefully, Jerry is just trying to save money until he effectively cans his biggest disaster as an owner.

Its a money issue.

Jerry does not want to pay both Callahan and turner. So he is just paying Callahan.

Broaddus said it again today on talking cowboys, if something were to happen with kiffen Matt Eberflus would be the Defensive coordinator. They are not going to bring outside guys in at this point to be on garretts staff.

Btw, I would support eberflus. I like him and think he is the type of guy that will succeed. More importantly though its kind of sad how we are just going to run the same group out there A. Because of money...who has more money in this league? and B. because they basically know what is going to happen this season.

Sorry theebs I am just not buying your theory. Or do you have inside knowledge that leads you to believe this?

I just recall people saying we don't have liquidity and then they offer huge contracts to various CB and other FA. Jones is known for largesse and not miserly behavior.

IMO, Norv would be the obvious replacement to many, but Jerry doesn't want the pressure of being enticed to hire Norv as the next coach should Garrett fail................again

I almost think this is his plan. I also wouldn't be surprised if we barely touch FA except for Selvie type players. We then will finish below .500 and will get a pretty decent draft pick when the new regime
Pay close attention joe.

Jerry does not want to pay new coaches to be on garrett's staff while he pays the guys they would replace also...

this is a money issue. Jerry probably knows he is going to have to fire garrett and then in turn the whole staff so it seems he is making the whole staff ride it out together.

We already hit the iceberg....just filling the boats at the moment.

and fwiw I support not bringing turner here. Time for a new fresh set of coaches with a background of succeeding currently in the league not chasing people who did stuff here years ago.

unless they wanted Holmgren. then I am all in for Holmgren.

New regime. Top 10 pick? Sounds pretty good. (Insert old praying icon here).

Of course it's a money issue. You have to be blind to think otherwise

It's going to be a tough year for a lot of wishful cowboys fans who think we are " one play" or "one player in the draft ot FA" away from being great.....

...

I agree. But nothing will stop some of these Cowboys fans. Heck, around week 9 or 10 we actually had someone post how Dallas would get to the Super Bowl and then continued to list reasons why. This is insanity. And going into next year, we'll have people predicting that the Cowboys will go 12-4 or 11-5.

Looks like the Garrett experiment is fixing to come to a close, Jerry aint spending any money on assistant coaches that the new guy is going to fire.............why waste money.

Looks like a playoff win or clean house at this point.

Our schedule alone is brutal. And Romo , ware, and witten will be another year older...

Foles looks like the real deal.....for years to come.....

Who knows about the skins and giants......u gotta figure the giants will make some kind of comeback.....?

The cowboys will implode next year.......and it's not going to be pretty........Romo may not survive as a Dallas Cowboy....

Foles has no pocket awarness and loses all down field vision. He will be fully exposed next year.

Its all just more depressing to me...I hear ya that Norv (as OC) may not be the answer, but Im CERTAIN that Callahan/Garrett isnt either...the depressing part is everyone is resigned to the fact that this a "sink or swim", lame duck, year for Garrett so they can clean house after next year and we're that much closer....isnt that what most thought this time last year? I did... If Jerry doesnt have the confidence to make some assistant coaching changes for fear that he'll be hiring a new head coach (who will want different assistants) next year....JUST DO IT NOW!

I dont completely buy that its a money issue either...since when does Jerry give a crap about dead money...wheres the legal aftermath against Rat? I know it wouldnt lead to more cap money, but its the principle. Lets see just how money conscientious he is with the Austin/Ware/Ratliff situations. If you CANT improve as much as you would like in free agency, than do what you CAN to hire better OC/DCs...otherwise it just feels like they are rolling over.

Im sorry to be doom and gloom, but I dont know that I can stomach another season like the last few. The lack of feeling like anyone at Valley Ranch really wants anything different anytime soon doesnt make me feel good going into free agency, the draft, and next season at this point. Im hoping that changes...

I want Garrett gone but if he's going to be here then he should be able to pick his staff. The object is to win or it should be. It's stupid to keep everything the way it is for another year. It's just another wasted year.

RIGHT ON!

I'm with you. No need to chase Norv when almost every year there's plenty of guys who are doing better.
