The All things Mike Shanahan Thread MERGED

You had me till that last part. Though I would prefer Garrett over Cowher, Gruden or Holmgrem. Matter of fact if Garret will promise to bring in a decent OC I am all for him trying to be HC. So maybe we do agree.

Garrett's been an ok coordinator (I know, many don't agree with that), but I think he'd be a better HC. My only concern is whether or not he would have buy in from the team. It's not often a hold-over coordinator replaces a fired head coach unless it's during the regular season. If the right OC and DC were available, I'd be ok with it.

I do think DeCamillis has the right attitude and attention to detail. It would be interesting to see if he could make the leap.

I don't care for Gruden and Tomlin has shown it is the system in Pitt not the coach.

Ours is a system thing too..........failing every December.

I would prefer that Jerry go drive over to FT. Worth and the TCU campus and talk Patterson into coaching the Cowboys. Don't know a whole lot about him, but I do know he has won everywhere he has coached.

If Jerry goes the re-thread route, I'd take Gruden or Billick.

Agree with all the above:eek:.

Jason Garrett was hired by Jerry Jones before Wade Phillips. The odds are extremely high that Jones will not disrupt the established offense by getting rid of the same coach he has the most confidence in. That leaves the defensive side of the ball and Shanahan isn't a defensive coach.

I've said all along if another "name" head coach would be brought in, it would be Bill Cowher. Jones will not relinquish general manager responsibilities and that would be Holmgren's first requirement. The defense is already established and Jones will not take a step back by blowing it completely up for another coach.

On record, Cowher had one main hangup with Jones and that was rectified during last offseason. He would consider coaching in Dallas, but it would be on Jones to make it as enticing a prospect as possible. One requirement for him would be control over establishing the coaching staff. That would be a primary deal maker or deal breaker.

too bad gary patterson signed a contract until 2016. but if he did. that would be awesome.

go frogs. (still mad about the bcs match-up)

Holmgren or Shanny would benefit Romo, proven guys working with QB's. I thought Garrett would do the same, maybe we need a real QB coach instead of Wilson to really take Romo to the next level.

But we also need someone on defense or new players. You think someone like Fox or Capers will be available?

To think, we possibly could have had Turner as HC/OC and Rivera as DC

Give him the control, it's that simple. (not simple for Jerry though)

Garrett has done NOTHING to warrant a HC job this year. Nothing.

He needs to go WITH Wade.

Head Coach: Joe DeCamillis
Offensive Coordinator: Ray Sherman
Defensive Coordinator: Someone Else

So the Special Teams coach that cant figure out what is wrong with the "FG kicking process" all season long is who you want to be the next HC???

Pass.

What exactly are you expecting him to do about the kicker with the yips? Is this the first time you've seen this happen in the NFL? Or you just expected us to bail on a probowl kicker sooner?

The Garrett project would be dead and we would have to can our OL...[/quote

A. Our o-line blows as is, why worry about changing it???

B. The Garrett project may not be dead, but it is on freaking life support as we speak.

No, this is not the first time a kicker has crashed and burned on the Boyz. (See Vandershank)

I will tell you that Vandershank didnt get excuses after excuses after excuses of why he was missing kicks and the team didnt wait for him to miss 10 kicks in the regular season before saying "we will explore our options". They also didnt make up "holder" issues to try to explain the misses, they cut his arse.

As far as DeCamillas goes, isnt he the freaking special teams coach??? If the holder was the problem (which we all saw today was pure BS), shouldnt the guy in charge of the kicking unit switched holders before freaking December???

They only decided to switch holders after Romo freaking voluntered!!!!!

It's in my signature but I like DeCamillis because he isn't soft. He seems like the kind of guy who would know how to manage a team. He also has been successful everywhere he has gone. He is creative, from what I understand. He's still young but has been in the league for a few years. And I like the way he's been in Wade's ear for the last few weeks. I wonder what's up with that.

Of course, he is also a bit of an enigma. Who knows? He might be dumber than a box of rocks for all I know. He might be totally in over his head. But all of the other usual suspects seem hopelessly flawed.

Can someone explain to me this obsession with Shannahan other than the fact that he's a big name?

-He's been a terrible talent evaluator on the defensive side of the ball for years now
-he hasn't won squat in over a decade
-he likes to run a zone blocking scheme to which we have no where near the personnel for

What am I missing here? He would be a help to Romo for sure but other than that I don't think he makes this team better at all in any regard and probably makes us worse on the defensive side of the ball. Have you seen some of his past drafts on that side of the ball?

not me

and I dont know who I want, but whomever they have a huge task on there hands, and it will take time to transition into the new schemes
