First off you are a brave man bringing this thread to the angry mob. Look for for lots of weeden sux, jerry sux .....they all sux!

My opinion is that they felt weeden had won a few games in Cleveland, they wound surround him with better talent and coach him up as jerry says.
They gambled on weed big time and lost.
The spotlight is just to big in Dallas for Brandon .
I think that is why he does better coming in in the middle of games vs a full wk of knowing he's the man.
I think the backup qb situation will be addressed this offseason. If nothing else, this season has brought a sense of urgency to that situation

Nearly every year, draft pundits (including many here) say, "this is a weak QB class, so why waste a pick on any of them," yet, almost every year teams find a young, serviceable QB — except us.

Are they all world beaters or franchise QBs? Of course not, but some teams (see: Seattle, Denver, Cincy, Oakland) find guys who weren't well thought of (they were picked low), yet have become good/above average players. Yet, Dallas doesn't even roll the dice.

This must be remedied.

I know you are trying to find any way to excuse away the poor decision making by our FO and HC so let me spell it out for you:

Everyone and their mother knew that Weeden could not play QB after the game in Arizona last year. This year Weeden lost games against some bottom dwellers.

Going in to the season this team had SB aspirations

Romo had missed games every year for last few years so it was VERY probable that the back up QB would need to start and win at least 1-2 games this year either to qualify for playoffs or for home field

Many vet QBs had come available in the off season that other teams signed that are way better options than Weeden

That is pretty much the definition of negligence

This is a rant. Not logical reasoning.

Which vet QB did you want?

And again while statistics aren't perfect Weeden had a 90+ qb rating and a 58 QBR. He won us a game in relief and had us close in 2 of 3 games deep into the 4th.

What about Weeden's play this year showed "everyone and their mother" that he couldn't play QB?

Jerry had word from Holmgren on Weeden, and they thought he could develop with talent around him. When Tony got hurt, I think they knew they didn't necessarily have Weeden ready, so they brought in a backup to cover themselves until Tony got back.

Nobody expected 0-7, but then the 0-7 is also not necessarily all on the QB, either.

Your usual schtick, build a strawman
Because you have no answer so it is a rant?
I'm sure there were others but Fitzpatrick, cassell and Vick were all available just off the top

Cassell and Fitpatrick were in a fight for a starting gig and Vick took a 1 year 5m deal.

I don't think they've been negligent since they drafted McGee and brought in Orton, Weeden, and Cassell. I think the issue is more that they have been inaccurate in their assessments with exception of Orton.

They really missed on their evaluation of Weeden. Thankfully it wasn't a draft pick they missed on but that miss caused us several losses
That said given an off season to learn the system Cassel wouldn't be a bad backup but I hope we can add a talented prospect to start developing for the day tony hangs it up

It's easy to talk about a better backup but actually signing one is not so easy
There is a reason so many teams have no talent at backup QB, there just aren't that matter good quality backups
Heck there is a reason so many at the top of the draft take qb's every year and start them right away. There is more nfl teams than quality nfl qb's

Bradford, Clemons, Fitzpatrick, McGloin, and Moore will all be on the market.

Both Bradford and Fitzpatrick, if they aren't resigned, I'd try my best to get one of them to back up Romo.

Here is a newsflash for you: better players will demand higher salary

The whole reason we stayed with Weeden is that the FO completely misjudged his ability and they did not want to sign someone else at a higher salary

Can you say incompetent and short sighted

Here is a newsflash for you: better players will ask for s higher salary

So our FO either completely misjudged Weedens ability and/or did not want to gift a quality back up because he would demand a higher salary

The bottom line is that we should not have gone into this season with Weeden as the back up when an injury prone romo was the starter on a team with SB aspirations

That is pretty much the definition of incompetent, short sighted and (gasp) negligent

Thank you for making my point

Agree with all of this. Weeden played well enough to win a couple of those games and when you think about it that's really all we needed from him. The defense let us down in at least two of those games

I don't think I made your point at all.

Also, I'll point out that MANY posters on this board ranted and raved about how we were the laughingstock of the league because we were starting Weeden, and how any "real" GM and HC would know he doesn't belong in the NFL, etc, etc. And then when we release him and he IMMEDIATELY gets signed by another team- not a peep.

And, in my opinion (and this might sound out of left field), but I wish we would've kept Alex Tanney. I know he was plucked off of our practice squad and it wasn't practical to put him on the 53 at the time...but if we could've kept him and developed him I'd have liked to see him in our offense. I think he has more upside than any QB we've had on our roster since (minus Romo, obviously). Just my opinion.

Cause no one cares. He's not in Dallas any more.
