The packers have drafted 2 QBs since Rodgers started , our FO has been negligent in not even trying to develop a QB.

Just to drive this point home, Derek Carr was there in the 2nd round for us last year. If he is on this team instead of Lawrence we are most likely winning this division right now, especially after he had a full year to sit behind Romo and learn and two full camps with us.

Also, I'll point out that MANY posters on this board ranted and raved about how we were the laughingstock of the league because we were starting Weeden, and how any "real" GM and HC would know he doesn't belong in the NFL, etc, etc. And then when we release him and he IMMEDIATELY gets signed by another team- not a peep.

And, in my opinion (and this might sound out of left field), but I wish we would've kept Alex Tanney. I know he was plucked off of our practice squad and it wasn't practical to put him on the 53 at the time...but if we could've kept him and developed him I'd have liked to see him in our offense. I think he has more upside than any QB we've had on our roster since (minus Romo, obviously). Just my opinion.

Yep... there were a lot of doofuses on this board who said that Weeden was finished in the NFL if released here. He was signed the next day. If anything he might have increased his stock in somehow managing a 92 rating, 72% completion rate and 7.5 yards per attempt (all higher than Romo and Cassel) despite being saddled with Garrett and Linehan. Brandon Weeden: QB on the rise. visionary troll: poster on a steep decline.

This is a rant. Not logical reasoning.

Which vet QB did you want?

And again while statistics aren't perfect Weeden had a 90+ qb rating and a 58 QBR. He won us a game in relief and had us close in 2 of 3 games deep into the 4th.

What about Weeden's play this year showed "everyone and their mother" that he couldn't play QB?

I couldn't like this thread more. I've been asking for sane suggestions for a backup QB that people would have rather had. Someone threw out Vick? Yeah not with this offense.

There are at least 5 teams that would have considered Cassel as a starting QB cantidate before this season. At least one guy on the first page of the thread suggested names like Hoyer and Flynn, though I haven't looked if they were available.

Those saying Cassel should have been brought in earlier, well it wasn't available because the Bills thought he might be at least their backup and maybe in mix for starter before camp got underway.

There are about 10 guys on planet earth who are good starting NFL QBs. We have one of them but he's broken. I will agree that our evaluation of Weeden was good n' turrible, but it's hard to imagine these other slag heap guys would be any better. Perhaps a game better, but we're talking marginal decisions that are easy in hindsight. Unfortunately this all reflects badly on our coaching and personnel dependence on Romo.

You forget how bad this team needed help on the DL?

Please, he was signed by Houston who is currently trotting out Brian Hoyer as their starter and had to cut their other backup because he didn't understand how to work an alarm clock. Weeden will be out of football soon enough.

Please, put your money where your mouth is. He will be on a roster next year. Name your terms. I enjoy taking free money.

Not nearly as bad as we needed a QB this year.

Do you really think before last season started, when we went 12-4, backup QB was a more important need than a pass rusher?

Or even before this season started?

Charlie Whitehurst is still on an NFL roster. Doesn't mean anyone wants him in a game for any significant amount of time.

Weeden is currently 3rd string on Houston behind the great T.J. Yates. I'm sure they are working on his bust in Canton as we speak.

Now you are just going backwards and making up stuff, nobody said anything about him going to Canton. You say he will be out of football, now he will be out of football but on a roster? Just give up. You don't want to bet and you're embarrassing yourself.

I admit I am playing hindsight 20/20. No question. And no, full disclosure I certainly wasn't clamoring for Carr last year. Although I wasn't fan of trading up for Lawrence either in what seemed like one of our typical desperation moves.

That said, the inability of this team to adequately groom QBs behind Romo has been completely on display this year. A team like the Patriots doesn't worry about that one more piece they need to win, they make sure they have the pieces in place for any contingency. That's why they don't get caught flat footed when they get bad breaks like we do.

Of FFS, fine he'll be on a roster buried in the depth chart somewhere because QBs are that stupidly scarce in this league. You win.

I actually would bet a lot of money that he starts another game in the NFL. I've said this in another post that I never in my wildest dreams that Anthony Wright would play another NFL minute after his horrid performance with us. He turned in a performance to end our season that made Cassel and Weeden look like Joe Montana. He ended up starting a playoff game for the Ravens. People who think they know what's gonna happen in the NFL are usually proven wrong.

People ranted and raved the day we signed Weeden. He was a scrub and those folks have proven to be right. I wouldn't take any solace from the fact that the Texans signed him.

He is not a starting level player. That is why he is a backup. He is perfectly fine to play a game or two in a pinch. And for all his conservative faults he wasn't a dumpster fire.

Asking him....or any backup...to salvage a 7 game stretch to start the season is too much. You'd like to have done better than 0-7 but just sitting here and saying a guy stinks who is sitting on a 93 qb rating and a 58 QBR who came in on relief and won a game for us and had us in games in 2 of his other 3 starts deep into the 4th is obtuse.

Jason, is that you posting here on CZ?
