The costly Lance trade

I know others probably disagree, but I would never trade draft picks unless it was for higher picks or a larger quantity of picks, especially in today’s NFL.

The only exception would be if the team is having a great season and loses a key player, but even then it would have to be a player that is vital and not replaceable by another player already on the team.
It is surprising so many teams do it. You can do free agency, and then the draft. Trading a pick for a player who needs a new contract anyways feels like a waste of resources . You still have to outbid people

Headline should be for the 49ers. The trade wasn’t costly at all for the Cowboys. Who someone else picked doesn’t mean the team would’ve picked them. They could’ve just as easily picked a bust.
49ers drafted RB Isaac Guerendo a lttle later in the 4th.

So we could’ve had Irving or Guerendo but Jerry jad to squander the pick on an already failed QB.

Not a problem exclusive to the Cowboys.

Even though most Cowboys fans want to think so.
Being one of only 2 NFC teams to never make a title game in the 21st century suggests it's a much bigger problem for Dallas than nearly all other teams.

Unless you want to make the case that Jerry is a competent GM. Go for it.

There you go and Jimmy didn't win anything in Miami.
Once again, Jimmy won the NCAA championship in Miami. I will never let you jerks get away with omitting that every time you try to trash one of the greatest coaches of all time.

Why is that relevant to this discussion?
He's lying about that intentionally as I keep pointing out every time these guys try to trash Jimmy as a coach. Anyone can simply google the facts about Johnson's time as Miami U coach.

And as another analogy, trying to trash Jimmy for his time with the Dolphins is like trying to trash Lombardi for his time with Washington, it's patently ridiculous and reeks of low intellect. I NEVER see Packers fans doing that.

The biggest drawback of having the Casual GM is that no other GM would have looked at the available NFL film of Trey Lance and Jonathan Mingo and felt they were worthy of 4th round picks. Our "GM" never watched the film and even admitted to that with his "relied on our draft evaluation" comments after both trades.

Jerry doesn’t have the work ethic to watch film and he doesn't have the patience to go back and forth with professional GM’s, so he comes in with the 4th round offer to get the deal done quickly and get back to whatever it is he doesn't do to make this team better on the field.

big dog is right. Every team in the NFL can list their bad moves drafting and/or trading draft picks. Some moves are worse than others. Not ever ”rolling the dice” on a deal is worse than not trying at all.

If Jerry Jones had not traded a 4th round draft choice for Trey Lance would that make him a genius? No. So it really doesn’t matter. It’s time for the fanbase to move on from the rhetoric surrounding “Trance”. I recall the Eagles song “Get Over It”.

And to date Lance and Mingo have contributed about 30 yards of total offense. Not any other team in the league would have touched either of these guys, only Jerry. Both moves defied the laws of logic and common sense.

Talk about twisting my post around. I was responding to "We've made some bad decisions with draft picks". All I said was other teams do also not just the Cowboys. Which is true. You are bringing up stuff that has nothing to do with what I posted.

Not only Lance who the 49ers parlayed that 4 into a starting safety in the draft but what in the world is going on with Mingo .

Another 4 the Cowboys gave out for a receiver who by all appearances was already on the roster in the form of Brooks & Flournoy . Flournoy caught a few passes against the Bucs he’s worth watching . Mingo I’m not even seeing game day ?

Don't forget the Roy Williams trade or the Joey Galloway trade. Jerry has done some dumb crap over the years. Least this was a 4th rounder.

We've made some bad decisions with draft picks the last couple of years that is really hurting this team.

Mazi, Guyton, Schoonmaker, Lance, Mingo.

Team We Always Draft Well needs to get it together.

The only issue I have is, it’s not the first and it won’t be the last mistake
